As beautiful and stunning as this is, I think her studio recording of this aria was even better and more stunning and her cadenzas were a bit different and more polished and flowing and the high notes she used and got in that recording were just phenomenal. But then I don't think anyone has, or ever will record those Donizetti and Bellini heroines quite like Beverly did on that album! Bravissima!
@MrAndredekock Perfectly put Andre!! Beverly's Bellini and Donizetti heroines is sheer perfection and I agree, no one will ever top it in our lifetime!!
Recorded a year before her commercial recording of this aria and cabaletta, with different ornaments but still unmistakably Sills at her zenith! It makes one yearn to have heard her in the complete role ... Sills' voice caresses each word and floats gracefully above the orchestra.
@KathrynARyder I have always said that I wish ABC/Dunhill alias Westminster records...had locked Beverly in a recording studio for a whole year way back in 1967/8. The only way out would have been to record 30 operas and 20 recitals!! How's that for a fantasy?? Has anyone told you you write the most beautifully descriptive reviews?;))!
@petelovesbevsills No one else seems to be able to sing this music communicating such a sense that she knows exactly what to do. She sounds as though she must speak bel canto as her mother tongue.
@exsultet1274 That has to be the best comment I have ever read! If Beverly could have read it, she would most certainly have sighed with appreciation and said "at last , a very smart person who understands my language!"
@exsultet1274 LOL! I absolutely LOVE that and wish I had coined that expression, but I shall use it often now that it's in my vocabulary! I'm sure her mother tongue WAS bel canto and so she spoke it naturally and fluently!
