Maybe that is the way the vocal teacher taught them to sing it... it all depends on what school of music the teacher went to. I know what the title says and the music but to get to sound correctly over the live band you need to over do the wording.
Awesome job guys. I sang this song with my choir at Lyman Hall HS in CT, and also for the American Choral Director's Assn. I love hearing it sung well; keep it up! And for those who give constructive criticism... that's not why this video is posted so get off the high horses. Bravo, love.
I'll agree with the more open vowel part, it would have a nicer ring to the sound. Otherwise, this song is one of my favourites and you did quite a lovely job with it. Keep up the great work.
I sing this song in my Girl's Glee class! It's soooo pretty. But I think I like it just with the piano. It sounds more touching and full. But yeah we have a group of six that sing special parts in it. I'm one of them! Yay! But you guys did a great job. Keep up the good work!

The word is "goin." It's a spiritual. It's written that way on the music. And it's beautiful done that way, as well.

@katiegallagher66 the word is going. it's in the dictionary.

Okay. But the song is called goin' up a yonder. not Going up a yonder. It's supposed to be more of a soulful song. Not pronouncing every consanent.

@katiegallagher66 you're obviously a critic, not a singer.
