@drv30 Thanks. I'll have to check out that track. The snare is Pearl Masters 6ply maple w/ a Remo Vintage A. It's a very pingy snare normally but the Vintage A does a good job of putting it in the right spot
Thanks, I finally got it after playing it for several days! It gives a nice chattering quality on the snare when played with the right hand on the ride. It gotta work on getting it nice and fluid like you. I also need to work on the cool stuff you do with your left foot on the hats--more space, and light foot tap accenting, less keeping the click on 2 and 4. I also dig your vids on Elvin Jones' Latin Swing, Elvin's 3/4 groove, and the Art Blakey's 6/8 Latin feel. Been working on those.
Great playing! That's an Elvin Jones lick right? Would that sticking be used for 3/4 mostly? It sounds kind of like what Elvin is doing on parts of My Favorite Things. Is that what they consider a "rolling triplet" feel? Could that be used in 4/4 time as well? I'm trying to improve my drumming and I've been trying to get this feel for years. Thanks.
@0005wayne Thanks. I've heard Elvin play it as well as others. You could use it in 3/4 but it can also be stretched over 4/4 any number of times (just don't lose beat one in your head). Throughout most of the video I'm playing it in four, so it's really an over-the-barline feel. It's also nice to just play once in the middle of other ideas.
dude what snare do u have it sounds really nice, reminds me of brian blades snare in "Pursuance" by Kenny Garrett

Buddy would do this sticking pattern and then substitute his right bass drum foot for the right hand.
Nice
