  • Did anyone else notice, at 8:13, the announcer says "If he can survive this run, he'll be ok" ??? FUCKING CREEPY

  • I'm hearing everyone talk about bring the old NASCAR back. Well, I'm down for that. Have a race for the top 10 drivers, that takes place after the championship race. Have it in Daytona like they used to, half on the beach, half on the road. Call it the NASCAR All-Star race or something. That would be fucking tight.

  • @Lestat3721 you think modern nascars can run on sand?

  • One of the most emotional days in sports history.

  • My first NASCAR race I ever watched on tv. (our house only got cable in 1999). I still watch NASCAR on tv. today...I still miss Dale Senior, one of the best/or the best NASCAR driver in history :)

  • Why didnt nascar stick with this formula on these restrictor plate tracks? They think only of themselves. STOP THIS 2 CAR TANDEM CRAP!

  • i miss dale sr so much everytime i watch nascar. i also miss DEI... Dale Jr, Michael Waltrip were great teammates along with Steve park its a shame they are not together anymore.

  • How come the cars sound more like Indy cars when they fly on by?

  • @TheHoodedCreature Well, both series use V8s. It's just that in IndyCar, the engines are 3.5 litre and turn up to a little over 10000RPM. Here, in NASCAR, the engines are 5.8 litre and, in this video, are turning a consistent 7000RPM. The cars have a bigger, lower sound, but still, from a distance, sound similar to an IndyCar race car. NASCAR stock cars now turn 10000RPM at the plate tracks, and they don't sound like this anymore, which is disappointing cuz they sounded amazing :\.

  • @danoh40 Yeah they did, I loved nascar back in 2001, thanks for the info.

  • @danoh40 NASCARS put out 9500RPM at plate tracks. Dont forget they run restrictor plates.

  • On Bill Elliot's onboard camera at 18 seconds, all I could notice was the 3 car.

  • Did he die on impact of the wall or did he at the hospital?

  • @ddebramns the hospital

  • @cokedash he didnt die at the hospital, he died as soon as he hit the wall, the impact killed him, he had no sign's of life when he was still in his car

  • @Peytree He was unconscious. Not dead, theirs a difference. He still had a heart beat but died in the hospital no more then an hour later I believe.

  • @likeaprayer111 i've watched every documentary you could possibly see, also i have read the official autopsy and death report.

  • @cokedash impact...the doctor...and ken s both confirm that

  • @ddebramns He died on impact.

  • This is the same strange feeling I have with my relatives, family, and friends who have been gone over a decade ago. Most over 20 years ago.

  • It's like Elvis Presley being already dead going on 34 years ago. It just doesnt seem like its real. It just doesnt seem like he has been dead.

Dale Earnhardt died over 10 years ago but just doesnt seem like its real. Like he really is dead. Like he never has been gone. But in reality both Elvis Presley and Dale Earnhardt have been gone over a decade ago. They seem like they were here on earth yesterday. It is just a strange feeling like they never died.

  • Well, Dale Jr. has the pole for this year's Daytona 500.

  • Sterling Marling did get into the 3 car. BOO!!!!!!!!! Michael Waltrip did get his 1st career win in the 2001 daytona 500. Waltrip will run the 15 car at the 500 in the 2011 daytona 500.

  • i will never forget that last lap commentary every time i hear it it gives me chills ....yet i know every word even 10 years later RIP DALE WE ALL STILL WISH U WERE HERE

  • STOP HATING MARLIN!!! He DIDN'T touch him, DW and the folks in the booth were misled by the camera angle...

  • I wish now that Sterling would have taken Dale out the 4 laps earlier in the trioval. At least Dale would still be alive.

  • if that wreck had not happened, jr michael and dale would still be lightyears ahead of the competition. jr would hav already won a championship. jr is not as good now because DEI was the best until 2004, when the competiton caught up

  • @donutdude42 maybe "lightyears" ahead at superspeedways, thats the only places DEI managed to be dominant.

  • Darrell and Schrader knew.

  • Whoever drives the 40 car, BOO!

  • @boogioogigoof Sterling Marlin

  • we will still love the man in in black #3 dale sr.

  • If Steerling Took Dale Out with 4 to go entering the tri oval dale would prob still be alive and Jr and Waltrip would have went 1 and 2 because the caution would have brought them around to the white flag

  • "I just hope Dale's OK. He's alright isn't he?"

    Darrell...I only wish he was...

  • This video is too sad to watch. RIP Dale. He may be gone, but he'll never be forgotten.

  • i bet everything i got Sr. wouldn't wanna go out any other way

  • @Undertaker000098 true that bro. He wouldn't have wanted it any other way, except maybe to see Jr. win a championship first.

  • I really think Dale tried to hold them off for Mikey and Jr on the last lap but really didnt need to

  • It's great To see # 3 back in NASCAR and if you don't know what I'm talking about Austin Dillon is driving the #3 in NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Dale was the man I was 10 when tjos Happend I didnt turn 11 until March 17th we miss you dale

  • just think, at 9:01 someone lost their life. R.I.P

  • @michaelisaracer99 watch that crash closley, you'll see who caused it (reply to me when you find the answer)

  • i miss how nascar used to be

  • no, the yellow line rule was put in place after this race

  • Still hurts the same 9 years later.

  • Yep, it still hurts to watch a race and not see the black 3 dominating

  • That was a great race. This was NASCAR at it's best. It's a damn shame that fate not only killed a legend, but the whole sport along with it. Just look at the full grandstands, and the constant racing and passing. What a great package. I mean you can even tell the makes of the cars in low quality Todays NASCAR can't even compare to what this kind of racing was like This is what made NASCAR ratings go u, today's nascar is whats making NASCAR ratings go down. Just this kind of racing not his death

  • @Nighthawk262 the racing might not be quite as good as it used to be, but the cars aren't as good because they are safer. It seems like you are happy the racing was good, regardless of the safety measures in place for the drivers.

  • Comment removed

  • I couldn't agree more. After this race, NASCAR never was the same.

  • I still get shaken watching this.Dale was THE LEGEND. and Watching anybody taking Turn 4 on the last lap gives me chills every year. In every game ever created, DAle is always a tribute. And as everybody else said, Imagine now, MIchael, DAle Jr., and Dale Sr. I think thts part of why michael isn't as good as he used to be. i know I wouldn't. NASCAR will never be the same. Un less Earnhardt got put in a wheelchair or paralyzed, I believe if he had lived, He would race, until the END.

  • when i saw this live i was like COME ON COME ON PASS HIM HIM then he wricked WHAT THE GOD DAMNIT then later that day NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FUCK YOU KEN YOU KILLED DALE SR R.I.P. Dale Earnhardt Sr. 1951-2001

  • damn it...what a trio that would have been for yrs to come...michael, dale jr and dale sr....

  • Great point that would have been sick

  • You guys have all heard of that new rule where you get black flagged if you pass below the yellow line? Well, if you look at Sterling (fucking retard name) Marlin's car, the front end dips down below the yellow line and comes right up into the #3. I believe that he caused the wreck. He didn't get loose. He was all over the #3 in the earlier laps.

Rest In Peace Dale Earnhardt Sr.

  • True but that was also before the Yellow Line rule was placed in effect later that season. However I do believe that if it was in place, Marlin will not have gotten under Earnhardt and stayed behind him and thus wouldnt have gotten that fender under Earnhardt. We can all say 'if, and, & but' but it's a shame we dont have a time machine.

  • @discodarth No.. Sterling didn't get into Earnhardt on purpose. If you think he got into him on purpose, you have something wrong with you.

  • Sterling Marlin Is The Mark David Chapman Of NASCAR!!!!!

  • Well Dale was obviously holding up traffic.. no ones fault.. one of them things.. .. i dont think anything happened to Dale before the accident though... it was the wreck that killed him

  • something happened to dale before he hit the wall... his spotter was calling inside inside and dale never responded, and as dale was getting turned is spotter yelled dale's name... there wasn't something right before the impact happened

  • R.I.P dale sr #3

  • LONG LIVE #3!!!!!!

  • ithink darrel knew something was wrong.

  • I noticed that dale sr almost wrecked 3 laps before the last lap, dale wrecked there he would have been alright

  • First race FOX broadcasted...I remember this race...it was also nice to see DEI up front 1-2-3...then the crash took all the joy away..

  • 3 car was a RCR car. 8 & 15 were DEI cars.

  • Yeah, But 3 owned DEI and him and Michael went back to him and Darrel. Damn, Projected to be his 8th cup title, beating the king. This, was possibly...NO it WAS the worst event in Nascar history. LONG LIVE#3

  • I remember this race... The most haunting thing to me was sitting there watching JR. run to his dad's car...

  • There was blood all through his car, I don't think most of us will ever know what Schrader saw when he dropped his friends window net.

  • RIP Dale. I'm a Jeff Gordon Fan but Dale was the greatest of all time end of story

  • RIP Dale :( In NASCAR 09 I took the #3 as a tribute

  • R.I.P Dale Long Live #3!!!!

  • Nice video quality.

  • 9:00, still makes me shiver.

  • oh geez, I skipped to that, and instantly got goosebumps...

  • 9:30 & 9:54 still make me tear up....

  • * 9:52

  • 10:17

Michael had no clue what he was passing =*[

  • I saw the most important race ever besides Sr winning the 500. I saw Jr win the 500 that race he did a quick victory lap no donut or burnout just hurried into victory lane.

  • and it must have been terrifying to be Schrader, looking into Dale's car and seeing him lifeless

  • ya. when schrader saw dales body he litterally jumped back.

  • If dale hadn't died this would be one of the top moments in NASCAR history. But maybe it was for the better, there have been so many safety improvements because of this.

  • damn, great quality!

    =D

    r.i.p. dale

  • 0:10 That's A Great Camera Shot, but since that race it has not been used until this year's race, I think- if you know that shot that I am talking about, if it was not in 2009, when was it- Daytona 500 Only, not Rolex 24.

  • man, ev1's so excited and then they focus on the 3. I almost started cryin watchin this

  • Dude, hats off though, that guy is obviously ecstatic about his son winning but he keeps saying "I hope Dale's alright" man, How horrible for Michael and him as well, should have been one of the happiest days of probably both ther lives and that happens.

  • That's his brother, but your right

  • chills

  • R.I.P dale you rock

  • I cried watching this

  • Today (February 18, 2009) is the 8th anniversary of when this happened. RIP Dale Earnhardt!

  • Call the '01 Daytona 500 whatever you want except Exciting. One of, if not the VERY, best drivers in Nascar died doing what he loved to do. REMEMBER #3!!

  • The first 199 laps were exciting. The last one ended up being sad and tragic...

  • 2 sides of the coin.
