Anita Baker and Michael McDonald have the 2 best arrangements of this song... But you can't understand what either of them is saying....LOL! My 2 fav singers of all time.
Bass player: Lanice Morrison originally from Alabama, more lately Leiper's Fork Tennessee next door to Mike. I think the beard and hair is a Nashville / Country thing although to be honest Mike has been like this since I first saw him in his 20's... he once told me he was mistaken for Kenny Rogers on a train in England - rather than upset the lady he signed her sheet love Kenny.... what a guy!
Ir's just a matter of opinion, I personally like his and Chaka Khan's version and his solo version better than Carly's. No need to get rude about it at all, it's just different taste.
@janinefloyd OMG! I was building a playlist of 80s music for our party and I read your comment to the room and we laughed so hard .... brilliant comment. Thanks for getting my party started!
NOthing compares. Everyone has tried to do this song.Carly, Chaka Khan, Julia Fordham,, but NOTHING compares to the soul and the heartbreak michael brings to it...
@mr2damngood73 I love Patti powerful voice, but it's the sultry sounds of Anita that would make this a great duo. Maybe there will be a show that could or would pair certain singers picked by us the people who still buy their CD's. Could you stand it!
@Protected1 I like music if they've got a good voice, it's got my ear, so my playlist has a little bit of everybody . Everybody includes Diana Krall, Tisha Yearwood, real early Aretha. I've always been pulled in by a great voice be it male or female.
@josshines, great voices are alluring. Keeps me hopeful that true music will never die. Not like these autotuned up popcorn singers we've been punished with lately. I await an Anita Baker release like a student can't wait to graduate high school. All those ladies you mentioned are delicious vocalist. And Mr. McDonald has been doing it for me since the Doobie Brothers...
@MrCameronsutphin....Yessirrr, I agree with you 101%. Michael does the real justice to this song. I listened to J-Lo do a weak version of this song. The music was good, but she weakened the song.
@MrCameronsutphin ..................Off the1978 "Boys In Trees" this song was co-written by Carly and Michael McDonald(of the Doobie Brothers). Carly's version hit #6 in 1978, the Doobie Brothers released thier version a year earlier on album "Livin' On The Fault Line" with LESS success. He did duet with her & Chaka ................stfu

@MrCameronsutphin Carly co-wrote it, scored a much higher chart hit with it, and it's her song. Period.
