Picked up this game a couple weeks ago on Steam. I hope its every bit as epic as this video promises.

@thepocarisweat The key is who you play with and how you organize yourselves. Stuff like this doesn't happen on random public servers, nor does it happen in the single-player campaigns. Every video I've done for Arma, even the really crazy stuff, is all done playing with a group of real people and custom-made maps and missions. Learning to play Arma also takes a lot of time and effort. I always say this about the game: you get out of it only what you put into it.

@tsarrite I'm glad you said this, because I've never thought of it in your terms, but you're absolutely right. You can have any number of AI units on your side or on the opposing side. For a short time, we were even running a version of Domination which we had modified to allow two or three humans to play on the OPFOR side; they had a number of AI troops at their command, and it was in interesting variation for a while.

If only console gaming could be like this. I prefer the 360 controller to a PC mouse, but my computer just can't run games very well at all.

Brilliant! There is a tournament that plays in much the same way, squad tactics and comunication. We have our own mod to the game and play custom maps. Google 21st century warfare tournament, click on 21CW and there we are. You can go random for free or pick a side for $5.00 US. We practice during the week and battle on Saturdays. Two opposing armies, one Russian, one US. All pvp all the time. Each campaign lasts apprx 10 weeks. The website says we play BC2 but we don't play that anymore.

@Fros7bite We always play our missions on Veteran difficulty. We also play some of our missions with ACE, although ACE was not used with this mission. In camera mode, there are no HUD elements at all, save for status messages that all players will see, such as "Player X has died".

Do you guys know of any mods for the map that allow proper symbology? I'm an intel officer in the US army, and I no-shit use this to train people, but Arma 2 is so lacking in that regard.

@TheYatesMachine For Arma 2, go to Armaholic and search for "symbols"; there are a few packs for symbols and markers, including those used by NATO and (former) Warsaw Pact countries.

However, with the potential of military funding at your disposal, I would talk to your requisitions people about gettings VBS2 -- Virtual BattleSpace 2 -- which is also developed by BIS. You can learn more about this system by visiting bisimulations website.
