First of all, the UC is NEVER dead silent during a game. Second, if you had any clue of what ownership put the fans through for the better part of a decade, you would understand why the building was half empty for so long. Once "Dollar" Bill Wirtz croaked, the fans came back in droves almost immediately. Otherwise Chicago Stadium and the UC were sold out from the early 80's all the way until the late 90's.

I am being realistic and I am analyzing it from a hockey perspecutive, they might be going through a tough stretch, but their D man play like forwards, they pinch recklessly. I count way too many pinches where they are deep in the offensive zone. You are going to give up so many odd man rushes the other way. I actually like the hawks, I love the style they play. But run and gun is not a good recipe in the playoffs. They have to prove that they can shut you down and they can't do that so far.

I think the D-men pinching in is a product of lack of scoring lately. Brian Campbell is the biggest culprit when it comes to pinching in, I can't stand him. I truly hope you are wrong when it comes playoff time. Hawks haven't been there in a while and the fans are hungry for some playoff wins. We will see!

The truth is, the hawks are a very offensively gifted team, but they are not good enough to outscore every team like the oilers did in the 80's. You still need to play sound structural defence, you simply can't be giving up that many odd man rushes because their D was caught. It wasn't just Campbell. The hawks just don't look like a team that can shut you down up 1 in the 3rd period. You almost know that you will get chances against them, that can't happen for a contender.

Also, this hawks team reminds me so much of the Canucks with the West Coast Express a while back, but all they won was 1 playoff round for all that hype. They were a run and gun team that could not play sound defensive hockey and when we met Minnesota we melted because they trapped us badly and just counter punched us when we made mistakes. Of course Cloutier didn't help, but in many of the games we were outplayed becuase Minny capitalized on our mistakes, same thing is likely to happen here.
