Granted, we're supposed to believe that the Thompson drum used as a pan-magazine is what feeds the gun, but at 1:39, he presses the mag-release for the actual magazine.
I don't really see why .22 sounded like a good caliber either. The only advantage I can think of is higher capacity magazines.
great show , the car chases were brill , i still watch the reruns on the telly the teaming of lewis collins and martin shaw was the best,, dont think it would have worked with another 2 actors ... not forgetting cowley ,,, " any more of yer cheek laddie and ill give you a belt round the ear " magic happy times sadly missed today ....
I am not trollin' ,i think this is/was the worst programme i have ever seen, just as bad as Minder...same script every episode,we watch this at home, sometimes just to laugh at the fashion at the the time or the STUPID script
@sysrq120 at least there was none of the modern "touch me and I will sue you" crap from the politcally correct pillocks - get stuck right in and get the damn job done.
How this world would be a much better place if CI5 were here for real....complete with a Glasgow Kiss...
@macmuttley A lot of these old cop shows do not hold up to scrutiny, the 'cops',broke the law as much as the crims.I remember when doyle was undercover following his target....in a white suit!lol..too funny. It sholud have been called the UNprofessionals.
This episode was obviously targeted(please excuse the pun)at the uninitiated to firearms technology. The rifle is infact just an old Armalite AR10(the forerunner of the M16),in 7.62mm calibre. If you look very closely, you'll see a real magazine under the weapon, with the ridiculous false drum magazine on top of the carrying handle!.The laser sight though was typical of this time;a monsterous size that over heated very quick. You can get these only a few inches long these days!
I know the mock-up is ridiculous for those of us who know their firearms, but a British TV series would have found it impossible to get hold of a blank-firing AM-180 (I think they were banned from the country even for sales/evaluation use). This weapon looks mean and gets across the general gist (high rate of fire, large magazine, laser sight).
Ah yes the AM180, I know it well. This was one of the very few guns that had a top drum magazine that I know was chambered for .22 LR in one variant. It was only discontinued a few years back. There were not many other top drum magazine guns out in the 70's appart from the 180, Russian DP28, British/U.S, Lewis and Vickers K. I can't think of any more!.
Fantastic show, I wish the DVD's were available in Canada. By far the best imported show we got back in the early 80's. Gordon Jackson was magnificent.
Who the hell created this show? Ludicrous. Laser lock and the bloke fell into the pool? Great show though, Phoenix clues within it. Check out the targets. slow mo, you may need the original copy. zoom in on 3rd target. top right behind target. warehouse. that's one of the points. the warehouse is now gone but the "landmark" is still there.

@sysrq120 how i beg to differ, brilliant show and none of the modern pc nonsense - "oh you touched me, i will sue you"...fists fighting, proper stuff.
If only a programme could be made to combine CI5 and Taggart - pure brilliant. Fists and Glasgow Kisses.

That warehouse was used in so many shows around that time and several episodes of the professionals, it also turned up in Blake 7 at one point.

It was the 1970s and yep, this stuff was state of the art. This was the first TV show I had seen the laser-lock sight on.
