My Yobo controller works just fine on my original NES, I didn't even need to take the plug off. also.. you didn't mention that the sound quality for the FC twin is really bad, oh and the lack of weight to the system makes it difficult to take out cartridges. Over all great review though.
I can confirm that Castlevania 3 TMNT 3 Gauntlet and Paper Boy does work on the yobo with a converter i love the yobo screw the original NES the picture quality and sound is just as good as the original nes get the yobo you cant beat the price.
I think this is the best clone. It's perfect for portablizers, has great compatibility, and it's cheap. I've seen some errors on Smb3 though, but they're minor and don't effect gameplay.
The Yobo FC game console is a piece of shit probably the worst clone system out there ive gone through 3 Nintendos and i just bought a modded NES 2 with av out no more rf unit the vertical lines are gone and every game works with it. But i do have the FC Twin as a back up system i use the original systems.
For shits and giggles, when does the patents run on the N64 and PS1? I'd highly laugh my ass of for a console that plays Nintendo, SNES, Genesis, N64, and PS1 games.
Hey man, nice review, but I have one correction. You said the FC Twin didn't have a zapper. In my local game store, "Replay", they had a zapper especially made for the Yobo FC Twin. Oh, and also, thanks a lot for the review. When I saw this (I wanted a NES at the time) I immediately begged for it for my birthday, and I now have it. Now I already have 19 games. It rocks. By the way, should I get a Genesis? It's only $15 at Replay (model 2 Genesis).
this was made long before they made an SNES controller port compatible zapper. For $15, it couldn't hurt to pick it up, but the best Genesis is the High Definition Graphics model 1 Genesis. However, it's nice to have a model 2 around as it's much easier to find a 32X with the Genesis 2 cable than the Genesis 1. On that note, I highly recommend getting a 32X as it significantly improves video quality on the model 2.
yeah, if you just sink the time equivalent of about $300+ in mods. You can never compare a modded system to a stock system unless the mod is mind numbingly simple like a PSP custom firmware install or something. I'm sure a fully modded Model 1 would rape a fully modded model 2.
CCAM is 30 bucks, and the dude in estonia does all the hard work. YOu can't do the audio mod to the model 1 either due to the low dB levels from the 3channel noise chip. Getting clean +5v isn't hard either.
S-video mod is probably the equivalent of $5-10 worth of parts from radioshack, and 10 minutes of soldering. I did it to two different machines.
S-video mod on any model genny (1, 2, 3, CDX, Nomad) looks the same.
S-video has alot of drawbacks too, like incorrect shadow display amongst other things. I've heard .OGGs of the "crystal clear" model 2 and the HDG model 1 back to back and I still think the MD1 sounds better. Plus, don't those mods usually interfere with Sega CD and 32X compatibility? Composite out of a 32X looks more than good enough for the Genesis IMO. Any more than that and you might as well just view the raw sprites in emulation.
CCAM on a Model 2 vs stock HDG Model 1 is a matter of opinion in the end; personally I do love the model 1's audio, but the CCAM sounds brilliant too. It doesn't interfere w/ SCD or 32x either.
Composite looks terrible. The difference is immediately noticeable in things like waterfalls and the "clear" tubes in Sonic 2. The way the Genesis renders video in composite is HIDEOUSLY blurry, but in S-Video they look almost as clear as an emulator.
They are SUPPOSED to be blurry, though. The Genesis couldn't do transparency and had a limited color palette, so they used knowledge of the blurring effect to create intermediate colors (trees in Sonic 2, many places in Earthworm Jim, amongst many other examples) as well as transparency like the tubes in Chemical Plant Zone. If you want it to look like an emulator, you might as well just save yourself the trouble and play it in Fusion, it's cheaper, faster, and more convenient.
I am completely and fully aware that programmers exploited the composite output to feign transparency... I just prefer to have a picture that doesn't look like someone smeared grease all across my screen. It's not "supposed" to be blurry, programmers just learned how to work around it.
What about the people using the RGB output? it's the same setup Sega themselves used in their arcade machines, so they got a clear crisp picture.
ugh, the advantage is horrible, if they wanted to make an arcade joystick, they should've used the microswitch controls from the Playchoice-10 arcades. It would've cost a little more, but it would've been worth it.
Thank God for this review... My friend said he was getting this for my birthday, and I had doubts. I thought either the controllers would suck, or it wouldn't work. But man, have you changed my view. Thank God for retro clones :)
xbox is the worst controller ever conceived. I bought 2 PS2-> XBOX adapters so I could use a GOOD controller to make the XBOX liveable, mostly for emulators (SF pad=Genesis 6-button layout).
well, considering its about the size of 2 NES games stacked on top of each other, I would say its a little bit smaller, but not by much. However, the NES model 2 is RF only and so by default it sucks. If you wanted to spend a whole bunch of money you could get it modded for A/V output, but like I said, its not cheap.
Retro Fc is a better and more reliable system than the FC twin, as there is virtually not a single game that is NOT compatible with the system. Japanese famicom games are playable on the retro FC as well.
lol, not only that but Famicom games need an adapter on ANY US system except the way overpriced Generation NEX. The FC Twin compatibility list is like 98% or more, I have yet to find a game besides Castlevania III that won't play on it, even some that are on the Wikipedia list like Kirby Super Star and TMNT III.
its mostly a matter of preference, I use 50% because it doesn't evaporate too quickly and its less harsh if you're cleaning labels and what not with it.
oh really? I didn't want to try forcing it, I might have to try boring out the plug holes on my controller a little and see if I can wedge it in there. That would be great to use the FC controllers on a real NES.
god no do not use rubbing alcohol use windex its just as good and not as strong in acid so it wont ruin the cartridge just saying. and sadly my fc3 plus its offspring plays all 3 consoles yet the zapper sucks balls and the second controllers dpad is broke iwant a new one and its only compatible with the fc3 plus controllers and it dosnt play super scope yet super mario rpgand starfox etc does work, also i cant get mega man 6 to work it might be the cartridge .its shelf though oh
Get a retro duo.. its better quality.. looks better, and its compatible with all games, including fx chip games like mario rpg, and star fox.. as well as nes games like castlevania 3 that yobo cant handle.
the difference is a little overstated. I too like the Retro Duo better overall, but the Jeweled Yobo FC (pretty much the only one you can buy nowadays) plays Star Fox with no glitches whatsoever and works with Mario RPG, etc. Supposedly Kirby Super Star didn't work, but I just got a copy yesterday and it played 100%. The only game I have confirmed to NOT work on the FC Twin is Castlevania III.
I've been thinking of getting into nintendo again. I wasn't sure if I should get an original or a clone. I still don't. I heard that the clones don't give you as good a picture and sound compared to the original.
actually most clones (or should I say, the better ones, as most are terrible chinese bootleg playing abominations) have BETTER video quality than a real NES. The picture is much sharper, though sometimes a few colors may be more washed out. As for sound, the word of the day is "accuracy." Clones generally just sound different, but for some games, I prefer the clone. Also, the differences very by clone, the Yobo FC sounds different all around, whereas the FC Twin has some channels softer.
Are u sure that super mario rpg works on the fc twin, because i heard that it does not work at all on the fc twin and only version 1.1 will work on the retroduo, plz reply.
If it says "USA version" its for NTSC US NES games. With an adapter (or a Neo Fami) you can play 60-pin NTSC Japanese games. As for PAL games, I'm not sure, if I remember correctly the SNES side of an FC Twin will play some PAL games, but as far as I know you need a PAL specific NES/NES clone to play PAL games.
FYI, Neogeon, you should update your video saying that Virtua Racing DOES work on the Gen-X and that the 32X will work on it as well, but the unit needs to be physically modified in order to make the 32X work properly on the Gen-X.
Hey, guys, here's some news for you: Yobo is making what's known as the FC3, a 3-in-1 combing an NES, Super NES and Genesis in a single unit. It's currently listed on Video Game Central's website. Looks like it's time to ditch my FC Twin.
thank you so much, that is f'n awesome! its about time! I only wonder what the controllers will look like...I hope they use the Genesis controller as the base for the design since it is by far the most comfortable and versatile of the 3, not to mention its the best for fighters.
What I'd like to see would be converters so you can use original NES, Super NES and Genesis accessories. Now THAT, I would like. When it's released, I'll test it ASAP, and if it's good, I'll trade in my FC Twin in favor of it.
And this time THERE'D BETTER BE PROPER 32X COMPATIBILITY! I've been busting my ass trying to get the Gen-X/GN Twin to work properly with it, but I can't mix its video output with the Gen-X's(Gen-X's video output is gone after it's mixed with the 32X's).
I don't think we'll ever see Sega CD or 32X compatability with Genesis clones UNLESS they decide to clone the 32X and Sega CD and include them. I think a few years down the road we'll see a Sega CD/Playstation/Saturn/Turbo Grafx 16 CD all-in-one, especially since these are engineered in Japan and the Sega CD and Turbografx CD did pretty well in Japan so there would be demand. As for controller adapters, the problem is the logic circuitry would be too complex to distinguish between them all.
as I was saying, while the NES and SNES signals are somewhat similar (which is why real SNES controllers work on the Retro Duo), Genesis signals are totally different, which is why the Gen-X only works with the included controllers. In theory they could just have different ports for each system, but then they would have to include 3 different controllers or people would be pissed it was in complete system. Bottom line, I think its going to be 1 controller and 1 controller only
If you have a soldering iron, you can fix most FC Twin controller problems. I had a controller go bad on me after 4 months of use because a wire broke off inside the controller with the solder still on it. It probably happened to you too. I'd open up the controller and check for loose wires before doing anything else.
you know you can use Super NES controllers, right? You can buy those used anywhere (or new reproductions) and you can clean the rubber pads inside and they work like new.
I have the FC twin, and the controllers are nice, except the down button on the D bad is super touchy, and its almost impoosible to press down.. you mostly will end up moving your charater left or gith.. ne one else have the same problem?
I like the fact that these controllers don't leave square indents into your palms like old nes controllers did, but the slow button's a pain at times but once your use to it I find I do much better than with the old controller.
the nintendo d-pad is awsome.sure the genesis d-pad is okay for 8 directions but rarely i use 8 directions in an nes game the d-pad is espically horrible in super mario broters 3 when i fine my self rocking the d-pad all over the place whe the regular nes controler it feels smooth
the only game I had a problem with was Rush N Attack because up is jump and its really easy to tap up by mistake. If it bothers you, you can always switch back, but if nothing else they are the best clone system controllers out there.
I actually own the NeoFami version of the U.S. yobo. It's basically the same system except it plays original famicom games(yeah, you need a pin converter to play U.S.), it's black, the controller ports are 9 pins, and the controllers feel slightly better than the U.S. yobo(I've owned both). I absolutely love my famiclone and your tribute was quite awesome. Also I'm probably going to steal your Klax shirt. I love that damn game.
Retro Duo is awesome. I just got mine two days ago and it is terrific!! You can go to ebay and find a lot of them. Based on my research, Retro Duo is better quality than FC Twin. All of my NES and SNES games work great. Nice quality to.
I haven't used a Retro Duo yet, but the FC Twin is really damn good. As far as clones go, the FC Twin is the closest I've used to official hardware quality, its at least on par with the Genesis 3.
Retro Duo actually plays all snes and nes games like mario rpg, kirby super star and castlevania 3 and the controller is exactly like asnes controller it is even in the same shape but the fc twin isnt very respnosive
The FC Twin controllers are pretty damn close to the official SNES controllers, aside from the cords being shorter and the buttons being a bit stiff in comparison.
Question about cleaning... it actually says on the back of the NES cartridge not to use alcohol to clean them. Is that just a lie to get you to buy those $9 cleaning kits, or what? Because it seems like everyone says to clean them with alcohol and a Q-tip... I'm just curious.
conspiracists claim it was just to sell cleaning kits, I think it was a liability thing. If you say "go ahead and use alcohol" then dumb kids would probably dunk it and ruin the label among other things and then blame Nintendo. Although, in the cleaning kit itself it even suggest using rubbing alcohol if you run out of "official" cleaning solution.
ebay or amazon is the best place, otherwise flea markets. Anyplace that officially sells Nintendo stuff probably will never handle it because Nintendo will threaten to stop selling to them.
I was going to do that, but I had a whole bunch of problems capturing it on my old USB capture device, and recording it with a video camera wouldn't do alot of good. The regular Yobo FC isn't too bad, but not perfect. The FC Twin is pretty much dead on, but some games (particularly Konami) has certain sounds play much softer than they should. Usually it will be the sound effects much louder than the music.
well, there's also Amazon. The only stores that sell it are usually smaller retro gaming oriented stores and flea markets and the like. A store called "Play N Trade" which is like Gamestop but more retro-oriented sells them as well, but you may not have them in australia. Also, you may have a different region code since you are in Australia and they may not make one for your region yet. The one I'm talking about is meant for North America NTSC NES games.
not without a converter, its because famicom games are 60 pin instead of 72. However, if you bought the japanese Neo Fami instead, its a 60 pin that comes with the 72 pin converter, although I don't think they import it much anymore.
The yobo is just as good as you say.All games i tried are very close in quality to the original nes.All these people bashing it just have to CLEAN THEIR FUCKING GAMES and it will work fine.
I just found out about it a couple days ago. It seems to be pretty much the same, only with an included zapper and a 5 in 1 multicart. I have no idea how well it plays though. Maybe itll play Castlevania III, who knows.
Ultimate stuntman! Dude i loved that game.... anyways, i wish there was a system with playback ability for nes, snes and sega genesis (all 3 at once) ... btw sega 32x wont work with the gen-x???
I know, me too, I wish someone would make a 3 in one already. And no, 32X won't because it doesn't have the same Serial-port-like-ish-thing like the model 1 and model 2 genesis, so there is nowhere to plug in the 32X cable. If you're hardcore enough to want a 32X, you should probably just have a real Genesis anyway, they are only $25 complete.
only if you use an adapter, NES uses a 72 pin slot and famicom games use 60 pin. If you mean PAL (europe) games, those ARE 72 pin, but I don't believe they work and even if they did they wouldn't play at the right speed because the PAL NES had a slower processor.
'meant' , god man, typo city! anyway, like I said, FC Twin is def. the way to go, I'm about to buy one myself, every time I use one I just go "DAMN! I NEED ONE OF THESE!" Also, looks like I won't be getting a Genesis clone anytime soon because I just got a free 32X so I need a real genesis to use it.
My Yobo controller works just fine on my original NES, I didn't even need to take the plug off. also.. you didn't mention that the sound quality for the FC twin is really bad, oh and the lack of weight to the system makes it difficult to take out cartridges. Over all great review though.

Is this region free? I've looked around but nobody says what they are! If this isnt region free is there another dual nes/snes console that is?
WongPolly 3 years ago
If it says "USA version" its for NTSC US NES games. With an adapter (or a Neo Fami) you can play 60-pin NTSC Japanese games. As for PAL games, I'm not sure, if I remember correctly the SNES side of an FC Twin will play some PAL games, but as far as I know you need a PAL specific NES/NES clone to play PAL games.
neogeon 3 years ago
FYI, Neogeon, you should update your video saying that Virtua Racing DOES work on the Gen-X and that the 32X will work on it as well, but the unit needs to be physically modified in order to make the 32X work properly on the Gen-X.

Hey, guys, here's some news for you: Yobo is making what's known as the FC3, a 3-in-1 combing an NES, Super NES and Genesis in a single unit. It's currently listed on Video Game Central's website. Looks like it's time to ditch my FC Twin.
Ace9921 3 years ago
thank you so much, that is f'n awesome! its about time! I only wonder what the controllers will look like...I hope they use the Genesis controller as the base for the design since it is by far the most comfortable and versatile of the 3, not to mention its the best for fighters.
neogeon 3 years ago
What I'd like to see would be converters so you can use original NES, Super NES and Genesis accessories. Now THAT, I would like. When it's released, I'll test it ASAP, and if it's good, I'll trade in my FC Twin in favor of it.
And this time THERE'D BETTER BE PROPER 32X COMPATIBILITY! I've been busting my ass trying to get the Gen-X/GN Twin to work properly with it, but I can't mix its video output with the Gen-X's(Gen-X's video output is gone after it's mixed with the 32X's).
Ace9921 3 years ago
I don't think we'll ever see Sega CD or 32X compatability with Genesis clones UNLESS they decide to clone the 32X and Sega CD and include them. I think a few years down the road we'll see a Sega CD/Playstation/Saturn/Turbo Grafx 16 CD all-in-one, especially since these are engineered in Japan and the Sega CD and Turbografx CD did pretty well in Japan so there would be demand. As for controller adapters, the problem is the logic circuitry would be too complex to distinguish between them all.
neogeon 3 years ago
...continued...
as I was saying, while the NES and SNES signals are somewhat similar (which is why real SNES controllers work on the Retro Duo), Genesis signals are totally different, which is why the Gen-X only works with the included controllers. In theory they could just have different ports for each system, but then they would have to include 3 different controllers or people would be pissed it was in complete system. Bottom line, I think its going to be 1 controller and 1 controller only
neogeon 3 years ago
i'm pretty much ditching mine since the controllers on my fc twin doesnt work anymore.
kibjohn 3 years ago
If you have a soldering iron, you can fix most FC Twin controller problems. I had a controller go bad on me after 4 months of use because a wire broke off inside the controller with the solder still on it. It probably happened to you too. I'd open up the controller and check for loose wires before doing anything else.
Ace9921 3 years ago
you know you can use Super NES controllers, right? You can buy those used anywhere (or new reproductions) and you can clean the rubber pads inside and they work like new.
neogeon 3 years ago
LMAO @ 3:33 "WOW!"
dumbestname 3 years ago
I have the FC twin, and the controllers are nice, except the down button on the D bad is super touchy, and its almost impoosible to press down.. you mostly will end up moving your charater left or gith.. ne one else have the same problem?
jkdskinhead 3 years ago
I like the fact that these controllers don't leave square indents into your palms like old nes controllers did, but the slow button's a pain at times but once your use to it I find I do much better than with the old controller.
Braindeadevilash 3 years ago
the nintendo d-pad is awsome.sure the genesis d-pad is okay for 8 directions but rarely i use 8 directions in an nes game the d-pad is espically horrible in super mario broters 3 when i fine my self rocking the d-pad all over the place whe the regular nes controler it feels smooth
yomyma2 3 years ago
the only game I had a problem with was Rush N Attack because up is jump and its really easy to tap up by mistake. If it bothers you, you can always switch back, but if nothing else they are the best clone system controllers out there.
neogeon 3 years ago
yea the turbo is awsome espically in megaman
i did however find a few games that make use
of the slow motion without the sound but forget it those were fucking gar-bitch
yomyma2 3 years ago
I actually own the NeoFami version of the U.S. yobo. It's basically the same system except it plays original famicom games(yeah, you need a pin converter to play U.S.), it's black, the controller ports are 9 pins, and the controllers feel slightly better than the U.S. yobo(I've owned both). I absolutely love my famiclone and your tribute was quite awesome. Also I'm probably going to steal your Klax shirt. I love that damn game.

WATE There is more YOBO Also makes the GN Twin it plays both Genesisand NES Games Wowweeeeeee
It realy is true, yobo does make the gn twin
yomyma2 3 years ago
well, they don't MAKE it, but they do sell it, however, it came out after I made this video...
neogeon 3 years ago
i meant the retro duo controller is like a snes controller but if you dont like that, you can just plug in a regular snes controller
yomyma2 3 years ago
Retro Duo is awesome. I just got mine two days ago and it is terrific!! You can go to ebay and find a lot of them. Based on my research, Retro Duo is better quality than FC Twin. All of my NES and SNES games work great. Nice quality to.
Wolverine0777 3 years ago
I haven't used a Retro Duo yet, but the FC Twin is really damn good. As far as clones go, the FC Twin is the closest I've used to official hardware quality, its at least on par with the Genesis 3.
neogeon 3 years ago
I am not taking sides or anything.
Retro Duo actually plays all snes and nes games like mario rpg, kirby super star and castlevania 3 and the controller is exactly like asnes controller it is even in the same shape but the fc twin isnt very respnosive
yomyma2 3 years ago
The FC Twin controllers are pretty damn close to the official SNES controllers, aside from the cords being shorter and the buttons being a bit stiff in comparison.

Question about cleaning... it actually says on the back of the NES cartridge not to use alcohol to clean them. Is that just a lie to get you to buy those $9 cleaning kits, or what? Because it seems like everyone says to clean them with alcohol and a Q-tip... I'm just curious.
XSC3 3 years ago
conspiracists claim it was just to sell cleaning kits, I think it was a liability thing. If you say "go ahead and use alcohol" then dumb kids would probably dunk it and ruin the label among other things and then blame Nintendo. Although, in the cleaning kit itself it even suggest using rubbing alcohol if you run out of "official" cleaning solution.

Where Do You Buy The Console At a Flea Market
Or Like At Walmart.
niggaitalk 3 years ago
ebay or amazon is the best place, otherwise flea markets. Anyplace that officially sells Nintendo stuff probably will never handle it because Nintendo will threaten to stop selling to them.
neogeon 3 years ago
if you know of any small independent
video game stores, odds are they carry
FC game systems too!
dentonscheibal 3 years ago
Will you just give us a full demo of the console? I wanna see if the sound is a accurate as the real thing.
AguFungus 3 years ago
I was going to do that, but I had a whole bunch of problems capturing it on my old USB capture device, and recording it with a video camera wouldn't do alot of good. The regular Yobo FC isn't too bad, but not perfect. The FC Twin is pretty much dead on, but some games (particularly Konami) has certain sounds play much softer than they should. Usually it will be the sound effects much louder than the music.
neogeon 3 years ago
where do you find the nes console??
besides Ebay
im from australia soooo..........
matty007007 3 years ago
well, there's also Amazon. The one I'm talking about is meant for North America NTSC NES games.
neogeon 3 years ago
This video is actually entertaining, even though I would still buy Nintendo hardware over Yobo.
Great work!

I've been debating getting an FC Twin for a while and I think you've just convinced me
nice job on the overall video too
richardtheconquerer 3 years ago
please tell me if you can play famicom games on this! send me a message
strade32 3 years ago
not without a converter, its because famicom games are 60 pin instead of 72. However, if you bought the japanese Neo Fami instead, its a 60 pin that comes with the 72 pin converter, although I don't think they import it much anymore.
neogeon 3 years ago
that video was really good,i wasn't even gana buy one but it was entertaining
crustymethaddict 3 years ago
Wow! I didn't know they made a genesis clone. I gotta have one now! All I got are Gen/NES games so that'll work for me! Thanks for your review.
5150evhpug 4 years ago
im thinking of getting one of these but is it worth it or shoud i get the fc twin with snes and nes and can u use the original controller.
conker2020 4 years ago
you can only use SNES controllers with the FC Twin. I'd say get the FC Twin or the new Retro Duo, when all things are considered, its the best value.

The NES
19Bigfoot85 4 years ago
The yobo is just as good as you say.All games i tried are very close in quality to the original nes.All these people bashing it just have to CLEAN THEIR FUCKING GAMES and it will work fine.
Any word on the game genie working on it?
murphfromtimmonspark 4 years ago
yep, works great, just might need to shimmy it left and right a little to get the pins to lineup since it doesn't have the guides a real NES has.
neogeon 4 years ago
Game genie does indeed work. You heard anything about the yobo factor-5? I cant find any reviews of it.
murphfromtimmonspark 4 years ago
I just found out about it a couple days ago. It seems to be pretty much the same, only with an included zapper and a 5 in 1 multicart. I have no idea how well it plays though. Maybe itll play Castlevania III, who knows.
neogeon 4 years ago
Oh, thats what the slow button is SUPPOSED to do! Thanks xD
Centurey 4 years ago
Ultimate stuntman! Dude i loved that game.... anyways, i wish there was a system with playback ability for nes, snes and sega genesis (all 3 at once) ... btw sega 32x wont work with the gen-x???
TellitToTheJudge 4 years ago
I know, me too, I wish someone would make a 3 in one already. And no, 32X won't because it doesn't have the same Serial-port-like-ish-thing like the model 1 and model 2 genesis, so there is nowhere to plug in the 32X cable. If you're hardcore enough to want a 32X, you should probably just have a real Genesis anyway, they are only $25 complete.
neogeon 4 years ago
does the fc twin play import nes
kyleglor64 4 years ago
only if you use an adapter, NES uses a 72 pin slot and famicom games use 60 pin. If you mean PAL (europe) games, those ARE 72 pin, but I don't believe they work and even if they did they wouldn't play at the right speed because the PAL NES had a slower processor.
neogeon 4 years ago
my old one had an adapter to play the nes ones so did it have a 60 pin?
kyleglor64 4 years ago
sounds like it. Was it actually a Neo Fami? they look the same but the Neo Fami was a 60-pin famicom clone.
neogeon 4 years ago
i dont know it sayed on it that it was an fc twin also is that u in the vid?

That was helpful.
