I'm getting a 6 week old german shepherd puppy on Friday. I have a fully grown guy already but seeing this video reminds me of how ridiculously small they start out!
umm, i actually wouldnt. theyre a LOT to handle. and for someone who has never owned a dog before, it could be quite difficult. They need constant exercise and disipline. Our dog is half border collie and she had a pretty big biting problem, and for someone who has never had a dog..well...you know how that can turn out lol. I would recomment a lab or something lol.
I wouldn't recommend a lab either, they're a handful as well and need constant stimulation and discipline as well. I would recommend you start with a small dog or research a breed and go from there. You could also try adopting/rescuing an older dog.
I had a German Shepherd, and she was wonderful. The best dog ever. She was a mix though. Part lab, and possibly something else we don't know (her mother was a stray we took in). I wouldn't suggest a purebred for your first time, but a mixed (with a mild tempered, easy to train breed) might be fine. Just be sure you have the time to discipline it, and exercise it. I do recommend staying away from border collies unless you plan to exercise it A LOT.
Thats rediculous. A dog will live upwards of 10 years ... some of the smaller breeds up to 15 years. Get whatever dog you want most ... getting a breed you don't like just because it's your first time will be a LONG LONG commitment. German Shepherds are easiest to train and fine for a first dog assuming you have time and dedication to it ... which you should have to any dog you get anyway
