Sad ....seems pretty wasteful. But realize animals are killed by their natural predators in ways that are just as cruel. No one thinks anything about that. Plus when you start thinking of it as evil where does it stop. Is killing bugs bad? If not why is killing chick/chickens so much worse? I mean I think this is unnecessary and they should come up with something else to do with the male chicks but try to think about it rationally.

birds don't have souls like human beings and they are just like Fish and Ants and Flys they dont feel pain. Deuteronomy 14:2-21 says that you can't eat camels but killing a bird is okay for food. Stop being ignorant and give your soul to Christianity because if you dont you will burn in hell and that is forever, fact.
@JesusChristRulesYOU I may be a christian, but I still believe that every living creature deserves a chance at life, that they too have souls and feelings.
@WolfshimmerWarrior don't encourage the troll. if his name isn't dumb enough, you should have stopped reading when he said an animal with nerve endings doesnt feel pain.
@WolfshimmerWarrior I agree and you can choose to eat a tangerine over a chicken. You can't force everyone else to do the same though.
If you take good stare at nature through National Geographic, the Discovery channel or crazy trivia circulating the web you'll find that nothing humans do compares to the cruelty of "mother" nature. Start with this article: cracked.com/article_16762_the-6-biggest-assholes-in-animal-kingdom.html
Good point. Nature is a bitch. I guess that means I should abuse and kill animals. Humans are animals, so I guess I can abuse and kill them too, right?
@mellamosean During the transformation from a living breathing being to a source of nutrition or raw material for various goods. Also, during the transformation from a threat to a harmless corpse.
It's also necessary to kill humans if you want to make blankets out of their skin. You don't NEED anything from animals, so it is never necessary to kill them, except in self-defense ("threat to harmless corpse"). Unless you live somewhere "uncivilized," it is not necessary, in which case the killing takes place only for human enjoyment, whether it be for food enjoyment, warmth enjoyment, or entertainment enjoyment (hunting/fishing/torturing for fun).
@mellamosean Your use of the word "enjoyment" is somewhat peculiar. Warmth can be a comfort or a necessity depending on the circumstances, though animal fur these days is almost never a necessity -- like you said, it depends on where you live. I'm not a supporter of vegan/vegetarianism though, so I believe animals need to be killed to provide sustenance. However, just because countless animals in the wild kill in horrible ways it doesn't mean we have to as well if we can avoid it.
peculiar? Maybe, but I don't think I misused the word.
I'm afraid you misused the word "need" once again. Animals do not need to be killed for sustenance. People would be just fine without them (again, "civilized" world). Health is not sacrificed by removing animal products from one's diet. That being said, you are only eating them because of their taste or for their convenience, am I right?
Why should we give any consideration to how we kill animals?
a) I didn't misuse the word "need", like I said I don't believe in vegan-/vegetarianism. I'm not convinced that we don't need to eat animals. I also think that good taste in non processed foods is part of an evolutionary mechanism that urges us to consume them for their nutritional value, while processed foods exploit that mechanism.
b) No reason why we should or shouldn't, just whether we'd want to. It depends on whether you feel empathy towards your future food or not.
@mellamosean The structure of that sentence was, "No reason why we should or shouldn't [give consideration to how we kill animals], just whether we'd want to". The fact remains that you'll kill them for a reason (food?), the question is if you care how.
Whether we should harm humans or not is a vague question, irrelevant even to this open ended convo.
I'd happily continue this philosophical exploration with you in PMs as these comments lack the space I need to properly get my points across =/
@JesusChristRulesYOU yes but after Deuteronomy , then it came Saint Francis of Assisi, the founder of the Franciscan Order (they are the the "Custodians of the Holy Land" on behalf of Christianity) who said "wait for me while I go to preach to my sisters the birds".

I was expecting this response video to be some vegan crying and yelling then passing out because you don't get any energy from vegetables, but this video had me in tears. So funny, my gut hurts. I'm gonna finish this bucket of KFC after I'm done laughing.
Why do people only cry over cute things that die? How come nobody ever cries for those beetles ground up to make paint, or those old cows that get boiled down into gummy bears?
@DeepFriedDoom because people are stupid and use their emotions to think for them. Anyone who said they wouldn't eat eggs because of this might as well give up all meats, sugar, chocolate, coffee and all the other materials found in third world countries. Humans are exploited for these materials but ethics and productivity are inverses of one another. However, providing safe conditions for your workers/animals doesn't earn you money so it takes obvious second place to productivity
@vegafarm It has to be this way. Not even a backyard chicken keeper want 50/50 males and females. Even if you did you would have to keep the roosters in their own pen because they will kill each other for dominance.
@Xineohpsoahc As a backyard poultry breeder, they could butcher them as adults, not like this :'( This is what I would do, not kill them in such a horrible matter.
noooo if only there were a way to eat chickens without killing them. lol. after i saw this i felt compelled to drive to the nearest mcdonalds and order a 10pc chicken nuggets meal...mmmmmm..... i guest i would switch to a vegan diet, but i really dont want my dick to turn into a pussy...
And if you buy your original chickens from say a specialty hatchery like McMurray or Cackle the males are still shredded up. Chicks hatch about 50/50 males and females. If you buy 20 females and two males that means that 18 probably were disposed of. Nobody wants as many roosters as hens..not even the backyard chicken keeper. The males will kill each other anyway.
@Xineohpsoahc i was just at a farm with about 50/50 rooster/hen ratio, and there was no killing between the males. they crowed a lot, but there was no fighting at all.
There is a fine line between tolerable and intolerable. For me, I have to focus on the injustices done to man by men before I focus on the inustice done to chickens by men... I will get to it, but I have to prioritize my outrage for now... and chicken is tasty.
This, my friends, is called "propaganda." I bet you wouldn't bitch and moan about this situation if your mom and dad were working on those assembly lines to buy you your iphones and Sean John clothing... yeah, I thought so.

Though it seems cruel, animals simply can't do it in another way, and usually try to kill the animal as fast as possible by biting at the throat to block the arteries/windpipe.
I'm a vegetarian myself, and I partially agree with you, but I think there's a difference between killing for survival (like animals do) or just to produce a 'tasty meal' which has long become unnecessary for human health.
@CandyCrayon91 that issue will be solved when fast food has come to an end, has less to do with tasty meals and more to do with american laziness an impatience -and also our over consumption of meat to begin with. it doesn't take a vegetarian too see the average american eats too much meat- after all i wouldn't exactly call "macdonalds" foods tasty lol.

@mellamosean You certainly _can_, though I don't know which part of what I said makes you think that you _should_ oO'
a) Humans usually have what's called "empathy" which makes them feel bad about hurting other animals when it's unnecessary.
b) Actions have consequences (and victims have relatives who'll most likely hunt you down and exact revenge).
c) Morality doesn't _have_ to be enforced by a deity and the fear of divine wrath, you can simply choose not being an asshole and a douche ^_^

the most humane way of killing a person is probably decapitation (one chop, not cutting off)
I guess it would be the same for the chick?
The only reason why people are not being decapitated is because of the people watching. it just "looks bad".
