  • Also Nick at Nite isn't what it use to be. I have come up with ideas to bring shows like this back with a Nickelodon station called Nick at Nite Black and White and another Nick at Nite 70's and 80's. Showing nothing but Black and white sitcom, movies and dramas from the 1940's to the 1960's. And the other well I think you all can piece that together.

  • You'll never see Television as good as this ever again. It was a different time and era and I refer to the late 1950's to the late 1960's. I wasn't born in the era of "make Room for Daddy" or "The Donna Reed Show" Most of us who were born in the 1970's were lucky enoough to be born in the time TV was changing and you could watch way more Channels. Cable was the next big thing and if not for cable and Nickeldon AKA Nick at Nite I never would have been able to appericate what we once had.

  • If you think about it, the late 80's when nick at night started was looking back to the mid 60's. Right now, the same time frame is the mid 80's, basically when NIck at Nite started.

I agree about George Lopez, he sucks bad, he's a token in my opinion.

  • More conservative today? How are they more conservative? I'd I'll call them crap today. In fact, before VIACOM bought everything, TV was far better. Nick and TV Land and Scifi all had different ownership then. More conservative owners, who liked classic 50s, 60s 70s shows. Today, endless Roseanne and Reality TV. Garbage. Don't even get me started on the downfall of MTV.

  • @humbleradio Was talking about their promos. They used to make fun of the shows they aired by giving them wacky promos. They had fake news, and some crazy cable shows on the weekends such as "Mad Movies" , "On The Television", and "Turkey Television", those shows were far from the classics they aired at the same time.

  • @xlogold Oh sure. I know very well. And miss them very much. I was just surprised to see someone make a political connection to it, whether by programming or ownership of stations. So what do you mean by more conservative today? Less crazy? In that case, I agree. But if people don't like how TV used to be great and now sucks, look no further than Viacom, owned by Sumner Redstone who is responsible for the major changes. When Ted Turner ran TNT, it was 100% better, too.

  • i remember being 11 years old and watching all of this in a ritalin haze night after night. that stuff may have not helped me in school but i remember these promos word for word.

  • I remember all these ads well. I loved Mr. Ed, Donna Reed show, Car 54, all of them. I miss the old Nick at nite.............

  • looks like kimmy gibler from full house at 0:51 i'm glad they got rid of the old old shows and replaced em with funnies

  • i miss the old nick=(

  • I'm looking for the Nick at Nite "My Three Sons Sing-along" promo. Has anybody seen it on youtube?

  • haha that quick commercial @ 0:41 reaminds me of a salvia trip some years ago.

  • Remember the classic shows you used to get for free? Well, we've taken them away and now we're making you PAY for them!

  • I'm 14, and I firmly believe that the geniuses over at Nick At Nite have been replaced by retarded monkeys! I remember stating up until practically 3:00 A.M watching Lucy! Classic TV was my childhood! I don't like ANY new shows of today.

...And HOW THE HECK do shows like My Wife and Kids belong on Nick At Nite?! Somebody tell me before I explode!!!

  • While I do like George Lopez, Malcom in the middle and My wife and kids but come on Nick at nite! I thought Nick at Nite was supposed to be a block for familes not adults only!

  • I'm tired of niche channels abandoning programming they started with. Sci Fi, Nick at Nite, TV Land, Cartoon Network, Bravo. None of them resemble the channels I originally loved! I know you can get the shows on DVD, but it's not the same. Miss the old programming!

  • I never knew the guy who played Herman Munster was in Car 54.

  • @sygo7g Seems like T.V. cable is verty liberal now everywhere you look.

  • The promo/lineup announcer is Wendell Craig, now heard these days introducing "THE CBS EVENING NEWS" on weekends; he was later succeeded by Bill St. James.

  • In 1985, Nickelodeon began its "Nick At Nite" service, which initially aired Monday through Friday from 8pm(et) to 6am(et), focusing on "classic TV", starting with "THE DONNA REED SHOW", "MR. ED" and "MY THREE SONS". By 1995, it had expanded into a full-fledged "sub-channel" (every night), with dozens of "classic TV" comedies [and some dramas]. This led to "TV Land" in April 1996; by 2000, most of Nick's "classic TV" lineup was slowly replaced by more "contemporary" ones....these days- eh!

  • "You're boyfriend's an immature jerkface."......lmfao!!!.....i was only 1 yr old at the time....who would have known this ad would ring true for me 22yrs later!

  • @mariechaton aren't they all lol??

  • I love those kind like the one at 1:46. I still remember "Your boss is a butthead. The sun is a dying star. Car 54 can help." "Ooh! Ooh!" I loved the original N@N and TVLand. They used to be great channels. Now they suck wind like every other channel.

  • i remember this exact commercial!!! hahah back when i was into tiffany madonna etc.. i was just a kid

  • 0:10 the beginning of reality tv

  • Happy 25th anniversary N@N!!!

  • I must've seen these ads a million times growing up. But that voiceover guy sure had a calming, comforting presence. I feel like I should send him a father's day card.

  • nick at nite should go back to the old shows. same with tv land i dont think there is a station that airs the old shows. i'm sick of reality shows it was cool in the begining but now that is all thats ever on.

  • I agree 100%! Since about 2005 there has been NO classic TV. I think on TV Land you can find some I Love Lucy, Sanford and Son, All in the Family, and Andy Grifith episodes but thats about it.

  • now they are headed on their way of mtv...all reality shows...so sad they don't listen to folks and what they want

  • I don't even remember Nick at Nite back Then. I started watching it in the early mid 90's. When old snl reruns where playing. But I have heard Nick at Nite started doing original programming back then like today like do it yourself sitcom but it didn't catch on.

  • OLD SKOOL NICK AT NITE ROCKS! I still have two half-hour specials they aired back in 1989. I posted them on Youtube but they had to pull them off!

  • NAN used to be good. Now they have trash shows. George lopez sucks. It is played too much. I hate the marathons. It is played to death like fresh prince was. I dont miss that crap show either. EHC sucks as does malcolm. And The worst is glenn martin. This is the dumbest show ever.

  • I agree with all of your opinion.

  • Why don't they show 50s, 60s & 70s shows anymore? Wouldn't fit the current demographic?

  • Because Nick @ Nite's employees are dumbasses.

  • You got that right!

  • wow never saw this cause i was born in 87

  • N@N no longer shows classic tv, mainly shows that recently got canceled. KInda sad

  • they need to come out with Nick at Nite Black and white

  • they shiuld make a new channle to house all these old sitcoms that they won't air any more

  • I agree.

  • Malcom in the middle absolutely does not belong on Nick at Nite! Nor does Everybody Loves Chris! Hvaing those shows on N@N makes Lopez, Home Improvement, Family Matters and Fresh Prince look normal. Atleast those are studio audience sitcoms! It also makes me think that N@N is now making another shift to dorky teen shows! I was just getting to like the lineup before Malcolm and Chris!

  • According to Viacom's Nick @ Nite information page. Nick @ Nite is trying to aim their programming choices towards men and women around the age ranges of 18 through 49.

  • This era was as good as it gets! I guess all we can do now is try to collect these old shows on tape or DVD.

  • malcolm in the middle is coming to nike at nite on july 5th. In the fall of september of 2009 everybody hates chris is being put on the schedule. I was like you got to be kidding me.

  • What is Nick at nite?

  • You don't know what Nick at Nite is?! It was(well, and still is) a channel block from Nickelodeon(in which, if you don't know THAT, is a channel focused on childrens and teens), and it focuses on programs that are in syndication, or are off the air, but are in reruns. Nick at Nite are usually the ones catching all of the syndicated shows. It started on July 1, 1985, and it focused on programs from the 50's and the 60's, and later the 70's , and the 80's, but now on the programs from the 90's.

  • I love the nod to "A Hard Day's Night" by the Beatles at :42. I can't believe it's been so long. I remember watching these shows back in the '80's. I think they should have 3 channels. One for shows from the 1950's and '60's. One for the '70's and '80's, and one for the '90's and '00's.

  • Stratman2534 That is a fantastic idea. It would be just like the decades radio stations on XM Satellite Radio except it would be tv stations for each decade. If they put those on tv I would watch them.

  • thank you so much for this! this is how i truly remember and appreciate nick and nite... donna reed, patty duke, mr. ed, my three sons... even when they had mary tyler moore on in the early 90's. the good ole days.

  • I did not get Nick At Nite on my system until 1991.

  • mr ed loved that show lol

  • Nick At Nite at its BEST!!!!

  • Boy I wish this was their schedule now! They used to air so many good classic black and white shows. I remember that little series of beeps so well also. Now all they show is the crap that every other channel shows, garbage from the last 20 years that sucked when it was new and sucks now. Thanks so much for the good memories here.

  • Yes, I remember it when it was still good. I used to wake up and catch ILL on local TV stations in my neighborhood as well as watching classic cartoon shows.

Nick-at-Nite is indeed garbage. I'm getting tired of Fresh Prince, because you can catch that show on three other stations.

  • Exactly. They are showing the same shows that are on everywhere. These days it seems there are a handful of shows that are shown on every station and nothing else is aired. I don't understand how it all got so rotten in just 20 years.

  • A lot has changed in 20 years. I still think it was pretty good in the early-mid 90s. It was around the time of Britney Spears, N'Sync, Backstreet Boys and Paris Hilton that it really went downhill.

Nick at Nite is now a shell of it's former self.

  • The stuff they have on the air now is bullshit. I enjoyed Fresh Prince and Roseanne to a modest extent back when they were making new episodes, but this has got to stop. There are no promos, no wacky commercials, no indication of Nick-at-Nite trying to be cool and laid back. All they have now is stuff for kids to watch and develop ADD.

It has really fallen off in the past 10 years or so. I wish kids today knew what this station and numerous others used to be like.

  • I remember when Nick at Nite used to air Brady Bunch and Wonder Years and Facts of Life and the like.

  • Yeah, remember Block Party Summer with that guy dressed like a fly or something that used to air in the summer? They would air marathons of Mary Tyler Moore on Monday, I Love Lucy on Tuesday, etc. I can't believe how much it's changed now. I don't understand why some channels need to "get with the times."

  • @italianman1992 If by "get with the times" you mean cater to those that enjoy a lot of sexual content in the comedies for instance (say, "Two and a Half Men," something that I never thought was funny at all), then I understand where you're coming from.

  • I loved Susie! I knew about her LONG before I knew about I Love Lucy.

  • Nick at night was awesome in the late 80s. Now, not so much.

  • I agree!!

  • Even though I was 8 years old I totally remember these actual specific commercials. I was so addicted! Nick at Nite began my love of Donna Reed!

  • same here!

  • @silverose1209 Me too, it's crazy! Been so long ago, yet I remember them all sooo clearly!

  • @silverose1209 I so miss the old nick at nite, it made me obsessed with sitcoms, pleasant memories.

  • Nick at Nite is shit now. George Lopez is NOT classic TV.

  • i fully agree with u all nick at nite sucks now i use 2 luv watching nick at nite back in 1988 when i was 6 yrs old they use 2 have really great show but now all they got is junk

  • Wow, thanks for posting this. I remember staying up late to watch Lancelot Link, Batman and Donna Reed. Childhood was awesome.

  • Fresh Prince was a good show, but good god, can't we play something else beside that AND Home Improvement? I mean, they are good shows, but put them somewhere else, not on Nick at nite. Even TVLand sucks now.

  • Wow I wish TV shows from the 1950's to the 1980's are on. Now these 1950's to 1980's shows are limited to DVD collections.

  • i don't think the George Lopez show is old enough to be on nick at nite

  • George Lopez. Don't even get me started on how much this show should NOT be on Nick at Nite. :(

  • I wish Nick at nite would still have these shows on. In fact, I, believe it or not, wish that it was 1988 again(even though i wasn't here in that year)so i could at least observe of what Nick at Nite was back then. Thank you.

  • the old days of nick at nite....the reason i don't watch anymore. instead its the same three shows all night long....

  • By the way, To answer your question about that Nick at Nite ident, bURRkef, it was food in the microwave. And i have that ident if you want to see it.

  • There's yet another Tonite schedule bumper. Its the same as the first one(The one posted at the beginning), but its instead on a bright yellow background, and under the Tonite, it says, "From TV land".

  • Nick at Night is all crap now. Fresh Prince 24/7, no wacky funny ads like this. Nick at Night ads always had me gripped.

  • Thanks!! It's seems that this new modern culture is abandoning ALL of pop culture history, that for so long was kept around like an old friend all through my childhood. I was born in 1979 and I remember how it was. Now it seems that they are purposely shoving it out of the social conscious. They won't even let the Beverly Hillbillies wave goodbye to us anymore. They slap a commercial over it. What happened?! I Love The New Millenium? A purposeful premature generation gap. There's a problem here.

  • You have visible panty lines There's a hole in the ozone. Patty Duke can help! That one wasn't even on here and it's not on youtube either. We need TV back like this in a bad way. I don't even watch it anymore now that Nickelodeon runs later. Nickelodeon seems as if it's produced for a bunch or tards these days and kids eat it up. After that who wants to watch Fresh Prince or George Lopez over and over? The best thing they had going was Roseanne and they pushed that to the wee hours. Sad. I'm 29

  • One I don't think I've seen yet, and been searching for...the one where the futuristic cartoon lady comes zipping from the corner of the background and throws clothes in the washing machine (or food in the microwave?) and pulls out the Nick at Nite logo...while singing, and I can't believe I remember it: "I've made a personal decision to try better living through television, but to make it right I gotta have Nick at Nite!" If you've seen it on here, let me know.

  • This was around the time when it first started (give or take a year). Nickelodeon didn't really have any evening programming in the early 80s (I think you got the multi-colored bar thing at around 7 pm until 7 am); then along comes Nick at Nite! Yay!

Loved watching those reruns of "My Three Sons" and "Mr. Ed."

Now all I see, unfortunately, is "Fresh Prince" and "George Lopez".

    Luckily there's TV Land now.

  • Unfortunately, even TV Land isnt as good as it used to be : (

  • I agree. They've been doing these mini-marathons of Roseanne and Andy Griffith lately. Oh, and western stuff like Bonanza and Gunsmoke in the afternoons. Let's get some more variety back into the channel.

  • @jawbreakerjo I know. TV Land sucks! Lol.

  • @jawbreakerjo You got that right! The closest they have to old skool Nick at Nite or TVLand now is Retro Television Network. (They even have the old touch-tone signal you would sometimes hear on Nick at Nite!)

  • I like the old logo better

  • I remember F-troop on Nick at Nite when I was little...

  • The List of all the Great Nick at Nite Shows from 1985-Present Bewitched Mr.Ed Dobie Gillis Dennis the Menace Lassie Car 54 Where Are You The Patty Duke Show The Donna Reed Show The Nick at Nite Movie The Adventures of Superman Laugh-In SCTV The Best of Saturday Night Live Fernwood 2-Night America 2-Night

  • Bring these shows back

  • you can buy most of these shows on dvd at ioffer . com (no spaces)

  • "the Nick at Nite"...d'oh

  • Whoever was running the Nick at Nite at that point and making all these promos and specials really seems to have been having a blast, using all this vintage material to make a surreal mid-20th Century milkshake. Even the graphic design of the logo is awesome. It's a shame I was too young to appreciate this channel when it was cool. I'd love to see a network resurrecting shows from *every* era of TV to make something really trippy and original instead of abandoning all this history.

  • I remember these commercials! Nick at Nite used to be so fun! :p

  • I loved Nick at Nite back in the late 1980's when they showed My Three Sons, Laugh-In, Patty Duke, Saturday Night Live, SCTV, Fernwood 2-Night, and the black and white episodes of Bewitched.

  • Man, that brought back some memories.... I wish they'd come out with another network and show some of those old shows again.

  • Damn, I rememeber being younger then like 5 or 6 years old watching Mr. Ed I loved Mr. Ed it was so fasinating to me that a damn horse could talk...lol. I also loved to watch Donna Reed and My three Sons. Damn I miss those days sooooo much. RIP Mama

  • Ahhh the good ol' days of Nick at Nite, these promos bring back so many memories! Why can't NaN/TVL be like this?!

  • what a beuatiful moment.....I was a kid watching this and I couldnt stop

  • Ah ... the good old days. I'm not talking about the times these classics were first aired, but a couple of decades ago when Nick at Nite aired them again. Excluding Nick at Nite's attempt at reality shows, this was what I had been hoping for on TV Land. This was the classic TV station that we so sorely need today and that both Nick at Nite and TV Land are no longer.

  • yea those shows were good but the peolpe that watched them are getting old and getting tired of it just like new tv rerunned tv has to move forward in time too.... people that are 20 and 30 now in 2008 dont wanna be watching mister ed they wanna see what they saw when they were younger

  • Nick at Nite had basically been 20-30 years behind the times, but lately there is stuff from the current decade. I can't really watch old tv shows anymore personally

  • I *loved* these days of nick at nite. It wasn't hours of Fresh Prince of Bel Air and the George Lopez...come on, that show was NOT funny.

I liked Mister Ed, Make Room For Daddy, Donna Reed, Patty Duke. TV Land isn't even like that anymore. They have reality shows like "The Big 4-0." WHO CARES!!

  • I not only want to give you a thumbs up, I also want you to know you took the words right out my mouth!

  • ahhh ! the birth of reality television.

  • I remember when I was a kid id watch Dangermouse at 7:30 and then at 8:00pm it would switch from Nickelodeon to the A&E network.I would get so pissed off because Id never be able to watch nick at nite!!! Anybody else ever have the same problem??

  • omg I known here on the oregon coast I hated it sometimes it would tease us with nick at nite then switch over to a/e and a/e back then was really lame. Nick at nite debuted in 85 we did not get it in my town until late 91. Sometimes late at night we would get a few hours of it after a/e went off the air.

  • thank you for this... flippin' awesome.

    *nostalgia*

  • Those touch-tone-like tones at 0:03 was for the local cable station to drop in their own promos/commercials. Apparently whatever cable operation this was taped from didn't take the break.

  • Look at shows like "The People's Court". Maybe that's how it started. I hate reality TV. It sucks!

  • They were going after reality TV back then. Still can't figure how it ever took off.

  • I love these promos. Proof that cable TV actually used to show what people wanted to see. How I miss the old days!

  • Those were the Days, when someone ran Nick@Nite and gave a damn.

  • Before Viacom took over?

  • Many, many years ago Nick at Nite aired a half hour special called "We'll Be Right Back", a collection of TV commercials from the 1950's to the 80's. I will be putting it on Youtube very shortly!

  • Yeah,I remember that. It was back in 1990. It seems like it was only yesterday, though,as I can remember what I was doing at this time. If memory serves,it was about a week or so before Super Bowl 24(49ers beat Broncos in a rout.) Great Joe Montana. Great Nick at Nite. Everything now sucks, including the Niners.

  • I miss the old Nick at Nite! We really need a CLASSIC TV station!! Neither Nick at Nite nor TVLand are CLASSIC TV anymore. TCM is for CLASSIC MOVIES. Ted Turner should BUY all these old shows that Nick used to air back in the 80s and 90s and make TCT: Turner Classic Television! :) Hey, sounds like a GREAT idea!

  • Yeah! However, it'd be commercial free(well of current commercials anyway). Instead if they were to show commercials, they'd be retromercials.

  • Too bad you can't see ANY of those shows on TV anymore...

  • They turn up on TV Land every once in a while, along with original programming, like we're seeing here. For example, they ran a show with Florence Henderson (Carol Brady), Shirley Jones (Shirley Partridge) and Marian Ross (Marian Cunningham) some time ago -- forgot the name, though.

  • This is the Nick at Nite I remember. These days, they show 1990s shows. Like they are that old. Sure, at the time, it was only a decade prior if they show episodes of 1970s shows, but still.

  • FACT: That was George Coe of SNL fame doing the voiceovers. He was only on the first 2 episodes of Saturday Night Live when it first started. I think he had a pretty decent career doing voiceovers for Nickelodeon/Nick At Nite for almost 20 years.

  • lol at da nickelodeon at nite bumpers

  • Thanks for the upload...Really takes me back, to my childhood...

  • I hate Nick at Nite today. They don't have creative promos at all and they don't offer a variety of shows. They just repeat the same show over and over.

  • With ya there. Any theories as to what happened?

  • These are wonderful. I miss the old Nick at Nite so much; I was lucky to tape some of this myself. Mr. Ed, My Three Sons, Susie, Car 54, I Spy. Great stuff. Thanks for taking me back almost 20 years!

  • the new N@N logo the nick font is like the Nickelodeon font no @ it's at Nite Nick At Nite

  • Ah yes, early Nick at Nite was such escapism. I even had a small crush on Dobie Gillis.

  • I think Dwayne Hickman would be most flattered by that statement. He was a wonderful actor and is still making appearances at tv conventions and comic book shows, last I heard.

  • Great stuff...not like today's N@N w/shows so recent, you hardly had time to miss them. I actually didn't get to see much 80s N@N, as my cable company kept Nick and A&E on a shared station until the beginning of 1991, several years after both networks had gone 24/7.

  • wow! I miss the REAL nick at nite sooo much!!

Now I have the DVDs of most of what they played, but I will never forgive them for what they have done to this station now....

Thank you so much for posting this video!

Where can I buy something like this?

Old Nick at Nite Promos & Commercials??

  • Your very welcome! I honestly don't know you would be able to get DVD's of these promos.

  • I'm SO GLAD I got to see that Susie commercial again, I remember that from when I was about 7 years old!!

I used to confuse Susie with Lucy! And thought they were the SAME person and same show.

  • Well Lucy was on an episode of The Ann Southern Show before. Nick at Nite would cycle between episodes of Susie and The Ann Southern Show.

  • If you GOOGLE Ann Sothern, there is a "In Memoriam" posting dedicated to that grand lady that is quite factual. Not only were she and Lucy great friends and part-time professional rivals, they appeared in several productions together.

  • I wish it was like this NOW!! Those were the GLORY days of Nick at Nite.

  • The fake news reports Nick At Nite had were called "Global Village News" I taped a special they did called "The 80's: Ten Years That Came In a Row" As soon as I can I'll get it on Youtube!

  • @dgwaters

-any chance of you getting that special posted anytime soon? I'd be curious to see it.

  • @trapadoored I did post it about three years ago but Youtube took it down after a few months because of copyright infringement. I'm thinking about contacting Viacom to see if they will let me repost it.

  • Where did these come from?

  • I really do miss these days, such good shows some of which we'll probably never see again. Ahh to have Donna Reed and Ann Sothern back!

  • I know what you mean I loved The Donna Reed Show, The Patty Duke Show, My Three Sons and

other Nick at Nite Shows from the early years!

Today everytime I channel surf and go to Nick at Nite, I get sick to my stomach! That channel went all to hell!

  • True, the cartoon promos were some great stuff. I believe that the promos were better than the shows. N@N is bad these days, but Nick is FAR worse. TV kinda sucks too. It's still the only channel left where I can still find Sanford and Son.

  • I miss the days when Nick @ Nite played more than three shows. Why N@N thinks people want to watch the crap they play now is beyond me. Remember the cartoon Nick @ Nite promos from the early '90's? I'd love to find those again!

  • Nick at nite officially sucks now. all you see now is fresh prince, home improvement, and george lopez.

  • Nick @ Nite these days is even worse than Nickelodeon itself. Fucking garbage.

  • This was when Nick at Nite was good. Now its nothing but Home Improvement, Cosby Show, or Fresh Prince--all the time!! No creative promos or anything.

  • nick at nite--the golden age of TV

  • The Golden Age of TV hahahahha

  • That is NOT a contradiction in terms, but a fact. SOMEONE had to be the firstest with the mostest during the beginning of the medium. Like all great things, these shows have stood the test of time. Any one of these series is far better than this "Reality" dreck foisted on us today -- that goes for "American Idol" too.

  • Thank You for posting this! 1985-1994 was a great time

in history to watch Nick at Nite! I use to set my VCR

to record The Donna Reed Show (my favorite) My Three Sons, Car 54, Mr. Ed and others! I really miss those days when Nick at Nite was fun to watch!

  • Do you still have any of those tapes? I remember the promo with the people at the bar and the bartender switches the channel, something to that effect. I was glued to nick back then!

  • It's sad to say but I don't have my Nick at Nite videotapes anymore. I had 7 Rubbermaid

storage containers full of videotapes that I had recorded from 1987-2002! (15 years) What happened was, I had to destroy and throw the tapes out because I was in the process of moving and I did not want to lug them around anymore! Looking back I wish I kept them so if I got DVD Recorder, I could do a Video to DVD transfer of all the Nick at Nite shows I had!

  • That is so sad !! That would be huge to find something like that on videotape. I have not seen any of this since 1987!!

  • I loveit, loveit, loveit! So someone else is a N @ N commercial freak, too! If this ever gets pulled for some reason, please email it to me! Myspace name pageflipme - Thanks!

  • I remember these, good times! Nick at Nite sucks now.
