I knew it was a Russian phrase that didn't actually mean "Son of a bitch". I was just saying that it sounded like it in English. I was just being stupid. But thanks for the translation.
I'm not sure how many players were able to beat both players. Agassi defeated both of them too : Federer in 2001's US Open (R16) and Sampras at the Australian Open (1995 and 2000) and at Roland Garros (QF in 1992).
Uh...he also had serious injuries, people seem to use either selective memory with this or simply are ignorant towards this. After he won his second slam, he became injured 2 months after and that has ruined his career.
I think you might be right, he's probably the top 5 most talented people to have ever played and I dare say he's just as talented as Federer but I suppose it takes more than just that.
Its hard to hear, seems like old memories just overflowed her mind
"Marat was left in Spain by himself, not knowing the language and continued hard on his training.. His parents stayed in Moscow and worried about him.."
Marat & his coach were embarrassed by this old fart, and they got up and moved over to two of the other 15 seats that were open at that time. They sat next to us for most of the match and watched Sampras play Mantilla. That was kind of cool considering that a year later, Safin would take down the great one himself at the US Open. The 2nd encounter was in Houston at the Masters Cup, 2004. We rode down the elevator together, where we spoke about his match with Coria. He was so cool. A great guy.
I met him a couple of times, shook his hand and wished him the best of luck during the US OPen '03 and '06....it was like meeting a young Czar. He's striking!
My 2 personal encounters with Marat: When he was 19 years old, we were sitting in our seats at the Hyatt Grand Champions Resort watching Sampras play. Marat & his coach came down and sat next to us to watch Sampras play an evening match. I knew who he was,but he was still relatively unknown. A guy who was about 185 yrs old (typical palm springs resident) came down & told them that they were OBVIOUSLY in the wrong seats, with a real rude, obnoxious tone (typical of the palm springs crowd).....
This guy had more talent than any of them. He just had so many psychological problems on the court. I am always endeared to such flawed geniuses, go Marat!
@kyuubiyura he defeated Agassi when he was 18, Sampras in the 2000 US Open final, Federer in the 2005 Australian Open semi-final while Fed was on a 20+ games winning streak against top 10 players. When he played his best he outclasses everyone else.
@thatmusikman well obviously Federer wasnt at his best that day.and if Federer was at his best he could beat anybody as well.and Federer beat Agassi and Sampras too.he only has 2 gs for a reason
@kyuubiyura watch the match for yourself.. i think most people would agree that he was at least as talented as federer and whoever you think is the most talented. he only got 2 gs cause he got injured too many times.
@kyuubiyura safin was not as consistent as federer due to the reasons the original guy you commented on said, but when they both were on fire safin would come up top. all i wanna say is that safin is just as bit as talented as fed and whoever you think is.
@thatmusikman i can say that about any player, but you dont have proof.if Federer played more consistently he'd have like over 20 slams.Safin only has 2 wins over Federer and only 2 slams.you cant just say he's the best, and its his own fault that he was a psycho on-court
Oh, thank you so much for posting this! :-D Marat looks so cute as a teenager :-* Would somebody be so nice a post a translation of this interview (was his mother crying?) or even better - provide this video with subtitles? Thanx!
Man, do I miss seeing Marat on the tour. If only he never had those knee injuries :-(

@captainspirou nope he says safin octayotcya camom obychnom parnem. It basically means he's just like a typical guy. Loves the beach, cars, etc.
