  • Why would anyone want this broken OS? If you want a windows environment then get windows... look at all the waste of time you put into this. Your "alpha" stage OS has crashed more times in a 5 minute video then Windows 7 on my machine. Actually, it never has crashed...

  • @Frank2029 >>Why would anyone want this broken OS?

    For fun?

  • @deformator2

YIKES! Too much time on your hands....

  • @Frank2029 It's not concern of yours, m8.

  • "Thats why we use Linux" haha

  • Windows 7 is really good in fact, when i tested it, it was really stable and fast!

  • Well I really respect these guys effort of developing ReactOS , is no easy job and still incomplete but what an effort. Remember that RMS wanted to make a UNIX like OS just like these guys trying the same with windows. Give them some credit , they doing the right thing as best as they can !

  • Facepalm.

    You can't read, can you?

"Please bear in mind that ReactOS 0.3.13 is still in alpha stage, meaning it is not feature-complete and is not recommended for everyday use."

  • So sad that you got a blue screen of death... Thats why we use Linux I guess...

  • i actually looked at this , and i was not impressed

  • yes reactos has progressed

i have been following reactos for 6 years reactos did not have networking support when i first tested reactos now you can use reactos applications manager to install a webbroser

  • @abrakadupa i am not for or against mate, i am just showing you like it is as the screen does not lie.

  • I remember reading that it is possible to run reactos with ibm's freedos kernel, that might actually be interresting.

  • @tadevokle now that would

  • Too be fair I guess its a NT based thing not XP or up so I am not surprise about the Blue screen of death thing...

  • @NetraAmorosi That and its no where near finished...

  • @NetraAmorosi Are you retarded?

Windows XP/Vista/7 are simply a continuation of NT. All versions of windows from 2000 up (except ME) have been NT-based. I know it sounds hard, but *think* before you post.

  • @baneofzakhaev you are correct in this mate, it is all still the nt tree so to say..

  • @baneofzakhaev Perhaps but just because software works in XP doesn't mean it will work in NT. I know XP is based on NT, and while it is BASED on NT its not NT as its a progression of it and there are bound to be at least some incompatibilities as such my statement is not inaccurate. And if you continue with such childish name calling then this is my last reply to you.

  • @NetraAmorosi Yes, I apologize for such immature behavior. I was simply having a crappy day and unfortunately somehow decided to take it out on you. Again, I apologize for that.

I see your point about the whole NT/XP thing. It seems that ReactOS are trying to make it a ground-up sort of thing. You may notice that a lot of software that supposedly requires XP can run on 2000 (and occasionally NT 4.0). I do see why XP cloning would be better, but it would also be far more difficult initially.

  • @baneofzakhaev Apology accepted. Agreed on developing based off of XP would be more difficult, but it will have to progress to it or better past it to more recent releases of windows. Though I don't see how they will be able to ReactOS to par without a larger workforce, ReactOS maybe doomed for failure with windows development far outpacing theirs, which is highly unfortunate considering how much work has been put into it, but time will tell I suppose.

  • Sir, ReactOS is like gone worse than 2 years ago.

And its developers use Windows. So no big hopes.

  • Nice review mate, glad you are back. But I don't think this is the best distro you have reviewed....

  • Good review Sneaky although i think ill give this OS a miss...Thanks.

  • I remember hearing about React OS many years ago in a forum. What the supporters of React OS were saying was that they championed it because they hoped to screwover Microsoft by making a free-to-use Windows clone that could run all modern third-party programs meant to run on Windows. After seeing that demo by Sneeky, I guess MS doesn't have to worry about anything coming from these wannabe anarchists. React OS is a pointless and dated concept.

  • BSOD just by running some software? Now that's a bummer. Makes me question the code quality.

  • @SeltsamerAttraktor now you know what im saying mate..does this mean i get more stalkers..lol

  • good!

  • Welcome back Sneeky! I'd almost given up all hope.. I'm guessing you'll be busy soon in a couple of days from now? like the 13th? I wonder what could be happening then?

  • @fatriff could be anything man,but i know what it is...lol

  • @fatriff y the 13th ?? enlighten me?

  • @sneekylinux Ubuntu 11.10 release

  • Can this OS actually run Windows programs?

  • @Deliciousfruit233 That's what it is intended for, a drop in replacement for Windows.

  • Reminds me of the days of windows 93...

  • @TWILisawesome 93....??

  • @sneekylinux My bad, it mean somewhere between 93 and 96, I only remember it by the startup sound (I was a youngling back in those days. Me memory is a bit fogged.

  • @TWILisawesome Reminds me of windows 95. -.-

  • If it get viruses what's the point of this OS? it's going to be another Windows

  • Comment removed

  • is this legal?

  • @231karl Yes. ReactOS is made by means of "Clean Room" Reverse Engineering. This means that while Microsoft code is looked at, no Microsoft code (except in one case where no other way to perform a function was possible) is acutally used. ReactOS is a 100% clean product, made from code-generated in-house, not stolen code.

  • @Xilmwa I think the question was more related to copyright. It uses names from windows, and looks exactly the same.

  • @Xilmwa thanks, makes sense!

  • @231karl yes it is mate, reverse engineering..

  • @sneekylinux thanks!

  • @231karl Yes, its made from the ground up with 0 MS code

  • Why are you bashing a OS that is not finished? You did not even use the nightly build and a build that is really old and I bet most of these issues have been fixed.

  • @Murmur95 and why would i,come on mumur95,it ha been around for a long while and has still not progressed, but i hope it does in the long run,and as for bashing...kettle,pot,etc

  • @231karl i think so?

  • @231karl Yes, I'm sure it is, why wouldn't it be?

  • I love your videos, jeje do not stop making more NEVER please :) specialy I love your Zorin OS and Chakra reviews

  • been waiting for a stable release, or usable....
