Thank you for the video, I am new to reloading and will need to reload 9mm, .300 Sav., and .308 Win. will this press be a good press for me... I'm on a budget and this is the only one I can afford that isn't single stage. I'm not too far from Canada, in N. Idaho. I would eventually get a turret and powder measure for each caliber.
What else is needed other than the kit, dies, manual, projectiles, powder, and primers... Is the kit scale OK? and the measure?
Ok, first off good video. Second thing is where did you get those red trays on either side of the press. I've been looking for some but can't seem to find any the right size.
@NickPech O'Reilly Auto Parts and Harbor Freight are 2 places that I have saw these bins. If looking at Harbor Freight's website, search for "bin". If searching O'Reilly's, search for "tray set". They're relatively economical.
Hey, I have the same setup as you (reloading .45acp on a lee 4 hole turret) but am running into an issue. When I push the auto prime into the primer arm, I have to hold the primer arm down, otherwise the autoprime will push the primer arm back into the ram. I noticed with your setup , your primer arm stays in place and are able to prime with one hand. Do you have any idea why this could be happening? I have searched everywhere and cannot seem to understand why this is happning. Thanks.
i have a crap load of small primed 45s is the load data any different for these as opposed to large primers?they will be fired out of a bersa and a 1911
@randomrazor Love it down there! bought a place in Moab with the familly, wish I could buy a AR down there to leave at the place but I can't as a "alien".
@paininthe10 Yep, 100% true, for some reason I'm running into tons of the WIN NT cases up here (small primer) I probably have a couple thousand small primered 45 cases.
I've also run into some .45 ACP with small primers down here in Pennsylvania. The ones I have seen are Federal 'Champion' brand. Seems to be a special Walmart only deal. I haven't got my press yet, so I obviously haven't had a chance to load em up and try them out quite yet.
@paininthe10 A lot of Federal's new .45ACP is coming with small pistol primer as well. As companies try to consolidate their supply chains I expect this will become more and more common.
Hello & thank you for the explanation/demonstration. I am still learning (beginner) & I really have a long way to go. I think I will be going with the Lee Unit you have as it is simple to understand. I will load .45acp first as they are the most expensive. If i could find one to purchase I would buy it. I just subed. THX. Sincerely, JAMES.
@utubecenseorstruth I manage ok, and I'm not that smart.... ;) just take you're time and keep track of what your doing. its fairly simple, case+primer+powder+projectile thats it. log onto a fire arms forum and usually they have a reloading section, don't be afraid to as questions. Also search some basics on here, pistol is easier then rifle for the most part.
Great video. Thanks. I am researching the delux and classic turrets. I think for about a thousand to fifteen hundred rounds a month, this should suit me. I think it's the best bang for your buck. Think it will last long?
@nadbooker If I was shooting 1000-1500 rounds a month, I would bite the bullet and buy a progressive. But if you have lots of time this will do it. Budjet about a max rate of 200 rounds a hour with no problems, probably more like 150 rph. A progressive should get you into 400+
Good job I've been loading on a LEE Chalenger single stage for 16 years. Some of the most accurate ammo I've ever shot. Think I might give it a wirl for my second press.
You've got some of the best reloading vids around. Great job.
I hardly ever exceed a couple of hundred rounds a week, so this press does a great job for me. I tried loading rifle for accuracy on the press, but I lose, what appears, maybe a 1/4" in accuracy. I'm guessing it's bullet run-out caused by the turret movement. It does still load sub moa, but I stick with a single stage for the accuracy stuff. Other than that 'though, I think this press rocks.
@bigdaddyitalia22 I agree with vyxaer, if you don't shoot more then a couple hundred a week, its a good buy. If you start shooting 500+ a week, I would go with a full pogressive. I have used this press with rifle ammo with some success, but single stages are so cheap I bought one for the accurate rifle stuff.
If I had to do it again? I think I would have just bought the classic cast turret, but basically done the same. :)
iam a new owner of the lee deluxe i really love it my only issue is the powder disc measure is a little messy is that norma i use hodgdon hs6 to reload 9mm please reply
Try a Dillon, you won't go back. Lee has good stuff and is priced right (I especially like their factory crimp die) but can't compare to Dillon progressives. BTW, .45ACP uses a large primer, unless you're using some kind of oddball cases.
I think you did a good review of the press and you sold me on it. I'm looking to hopefully save at least 1/2 the cost of factory ammo which I think is possible. I sub'd keep up the great job. PA
Good and simple man, it really helped me put some of the pieces together. Few questions, what is the difference between your press and the "classic" model? Also, what are your thoughts on reloading each round start to finish, vs priming all, then adding the powder to each, and then seating the round? I would imagine your method would be faster but I have no idea. Great vid.
@JMCSD The Classic is far better, it just has a mor rigid base, but it also ejects the spent primers down the ram and into a tube, this one spit them out the side.
For pistol brass, I don't have to lube it or size it, so I just tumble the spent cases and run em through the whole cycle.
For my AR (.223) I tumble the spent cases, then FL re-size, deprime, and size. Clean again shortly. Then hand prime, then run through the press for powder, bullet seat, and crimp.
@84reaper Nope, not with hodgdon Clays powder or WIN 231. With some rifle extruded powders (H4198 & Varget) some minor powder spillage was noted, along the lines of a few grannules per 100 rounds.
@iLove12GaugeSlugs There are different "disks" you put in it with different sized holes, the bigger hole, the more powder. I simply weigh the load thrown and if I need more I go another step up in disk/hole size. then I test 5 throws, and if it stays the same, I roll with it for my loads.
Thanks for the video. At first I looked at the Lee classic turret press, but I heard people complain about the parts wearing out so i'm planning on a Hornady progressive. The hornady also has an extra hole for a powder cop die. Let me know if you have any problems with your press.
Have you calculated what your cost per round is for the .45ACP yet?

I am looking at this press why do you reach around and move something just before the powder step in the shell????
texanranch 4 months ago
Alright, so if he cranks out 10 rounds every 4 minutes thats...I'd say about 135 rounds an hour roughly if he can squeeze those last ones in.
10 x every 4 minutes till the hour is up = 135 (give or take a few)
Thumbs up so people can see, instead of doing math.

Are you using Lee carbide dies? I just got a set--no lube required, and it sticks a little on the crimp down stroke.

@bddc201 Winchester NT uses small primers, and has for years. Most Police surplus brass up here is win NT, so about half my brass is SP.
Dillon would be nice, buddy has one, but to be honest, my lee works just as well.
