To me, the sea is representing Emilie's emotions or thoughts, and she's saying how that her feelings toward her ex-boyfriend are stronger or more intricate than it will ever show from her drowning herself in his lake (which, I may point out, is definitely behind his house)

But that's just my personal opinion :)

HOWEVER, many of Emilie's songs do incorperate common pop techniques in the structure of her lyrics or musical composition. After that the nature of the music varies greatly, from dark rock, to mild industrial, to a sort of twisted anti-folk (which is the best way I can think of classifying this song but wouldn't be surprised if I'm way off), to ballads, to broadway musical-like creations
