@wisesatyr72 Thanks! I don't like this one so much because I'm so close to the camera that you hear my actual attack (pick/finger noise) on the strings and by blocking my amp/speakers (to the mic on the camera) it affects the sound...but I haven't listened to it in a long time...and I do like some of the playing here...thanks so much for actually listening! FWIW, I've done about 8 loop/jam videos in the last few weeks, so check out my latest postings...hopefully you will like some of them too!

@greengtrs Dude Ive been watching you videos for years..I just a gear junkie like you. But I think you do alot sales of Ebay/online etc..Good work keep it up : ))
@rockmindmusic Thanks so much...I believe it is a gift from God above (as I don't practice enough any more to have any real abilities) and I simply play because I love to...keep it fun! Thanks for watching!
@tripfall224 Thanks so much! I love Mark Knopfler...since the very first Dire Straits album. I do some videos here where it is more obvious as I do tend to steal some of his licks. Thanks for watching!
@bondmaxbondrock Sounds WAYYYYYY overpriced...these are probably more in the $500 range...maybe a hair more if it's in MINT condition...you can probably find way nicer Strats out there for $800...American Deluxe models or Vintage Reissue if that's more to your liking...just look around a bit first is my advice...plenty of nice used Strats out there...
Nothing...HSS stands for Humbucker, Single, Single...so HSS vs. 3 Single Coils. Of course there will be differences between Mexican Standard vs. American Standard series...sometimes you are actually routing out more wood for that Humbucker, sometimes they do universal routes to make room for that common "upgrade". Rock on...thanks for watching!
I missed this somehow...so sorry for the delayed answer. I basically hold it with my pinky and sometimes also ring finger as I almost never use my pinky.
It's nice to hear the California Series is doing so well. It was my first real Strat and I love it. The one I own is Fiesta Red and was made in the year 97, Just some friendly advice, their great guitars with vintage hardware and tex mex pick ups, you won't be dissapointed.
the american ones are made in america and the mexican ones are made in mexico the americans are wired better and are built with better quality parts but if you play them side by side theres no big difference try to find a used american strat and if you cant find a good deal just buy a mesican one
You can upgrade a mexican step by step too. This is a way to exactly get the guitar, the feeling and the tones you want. Any part of Fender's is available on eBay and never forget every Fender actually is a puzzle.
Well, and the fact that the MIM strats are sometimes put together with up to 6 pieces of wood. Fender told me this when I asked about the differences.
One thing I've seen though is quality CTS pots in the MIM strats. These are some of the best out there, and the wiring is pretty decent as well. I mean, if those Mexicans were shoddily putting guitars together, Fender would have had to change something...so it goes.
HI i have a fat mex strato. It have a good sound between hot of gibson and cold of fender so you can play every music style. The sound of american i s wonderful but i think that you can play a few style of music...
Its my understanding that California Series Starts were painted in Mexico and assembled in Corona CA... however........most done with leftover 62-re-issue components..so it is essentially a 62-re-issue USA...that could not be marketed as that because of the Mexi aspect to its construction...and was sold at a discount as a result...thats why the short 2yr (97-98) run..
Its now starting to be truly collectible..I just sold a mint Cali Strat for almost double to what you are talking about..
They also get bigger frets than a '62 would have...that and the Tex-Mex pickups...they are a great players Strat...and timing is everything when it comes to selling ...I just can't afford to sit on stuff...
I am looking to buy a USA California Fat Strat that is for sale here locally. The only thing not stock are the two stock single coil pickups were professionally upgraded to Fender Lace Sensor Reds. Other than that its a 9.5 condition original. You think $550 is a good deal?
I think I sold this one for $499 so that sounds about right for great/excellent condition if it has a case...although give or take on the Red Lace Sensors depending on how you feel about them...I'm not generally crazy about them, but I think in this case it would probably be a better match and there would be no hum...sounds like a good deal...how does it play? Does everything work properly? Does it need a set-up?
bigger frets (you don't have to press as hard to sound the notes...more metalic than wood sound though)...made in the USA (better for re-sale)...slightly hotter Tex-Mex pickups (give a little more bite and are better for distortion)...use it for anything you want to...no rules...humbuckers are generally better for distortion though.
Hey friend, I have a california series too. I'm not a fender expert, but I guess the body was changed, couse is small... Maybe I can wrong... Help me please, tell me the sizes (with, high...) Thank you anyway!
It is a full size Strat with traditional vintage styling...bridge, tuners, neck (21 frets...but larger frets than a vintage style guitar would have...which is way better for most people as far as playing with a lighter touch and bending notes on). It has Tex-Mex (slightly hotter) pickups. It also has traditional body cavity routing vs. the massive body route that they used to do on the American Standard series at the time...which should give you more of the woods tone.
Yes...this guitar was 100% stock. I always try to point out features and any issues (or changes to the guitar from original...such as pickups). I've started talking in my latest videos so I can really point out stuff and tell what is going on with both the guitar and amp (or anything else that might affect the sound). Thanks for watching!
this is probaly the Best demo vid Ive seen from you..

why is it callede a fat strat?
onixtheone 1 year ago
@onixtheone Because of the big gut (lol)! Not really...it's because of the humbucker in the bridge position (giving it a fat lead sound).

I'm guessing he's not using one.........

best way is to tuck your pick underneath your middlefinger of picking hand.
