This piece has to be played in the right style! This just is not.You should watch from YOUTUBE how does the young Vierne specialist Pétur Sakari play this!
I'd dare compare her to Elton John perhaps (he's also a world reknown singer/composer) but, for CHRIST'S sake, NOT to lady Gaga!!!!!!!!!! I suspect lady Gaga can HARDLY realize where she steps, let alone play with such VIRTUOSITY. What's the matter with all those critics that just try to destroy everybody within reach?????
Ha! Everyone is a critic. How many of you have an internationally recognizable name? Like her or not, she has done more to showcase organ music to the "common" person around the world than any other similar musician I am aware of.
With that outfit, she was the Lady GaGa of her time. And kinda looks like a more mature one too. Her pedalwork is impressive especially in those shoes. I have a hard time wearing a heeled shoe while playing organ.
@healcannon I can appreciate the humor in your comments. I actually chuckled.....but, please let's not connect Ms. Bish to Gaga, who belongs in a circus. While Ms. Bish is a world class musician, Gaga is a......I don't know you fill in the blanks, cause I don't what the hell she is. Definitely not a singer as far as I'm concerned.
I've never commented on a Bish video, because I think she plays most things too damned fast. But this is Bish at her best. As far as registration, it is VERY reminiscent of Simon Preston's landmark 1964 Westminster Abbey recording (and they both belong to a mutual admiration society). I also agree that her pedal technique is flawless. Dynamic control: 10 out of 10. Only dislike: Her truncation of the penultimate chords. Overall? Excellent.
She's from Kansas, and there's obviously an Oz overlap here, between the costume (too bad she didn't choose Emerald Green) and the great and powerful organ that she o'ermasters. Wicked witch or good witch? Bewitching pedal technique in this piece IMHO.
@Sesquiltera One of the things I love about Diane. I have never seen anyone pedal like she does. Her technique just blows my mind and she makes it look ridiculously simple. I don't know how she does it. But I guess you don't get awarded the highest honor by the National Federation and earn the title of The First Lady of the Organ by being mediocre.
@vinniecaruso Eau contraire my dear friend, I in fact find Bish's unslurred version very artsy and makes it very unique. And I sure would want to hear Bish play a Dupre piece.
@Sesquiltera Oh you mean unslurred in the technical sense? I misunderstood and took it in general terms and thought you meant that she played it without mistakes haha yeah I agree with you too it is pretty unique. I like it.
@vinniecaruso - her pedal technique is far from bad, but she's ridiculously overrated. This is not the best performance I've heard of this piece by a long way.
@EccentricRichard I don't think she is TOO overrated; she blows my mind with her flare and passion in a lot of performances moreso than most organist. I agree with you on this particular piece though. A lot of people criticize her for playing pieces too fast, while I actually think she played this one a little too slow. Just my own personal taste, though. I like it a tad faster.
@vinniecaruso - she's OK here, but so many times I've seen/heard her completely STEAMROLLER a piece. If she has to choose between artistry and self-serving, ego-boosting gratuitous virtuosity, she'll take the latter every time, and the music is wrecked in the process. Plus her dress sense is truly horrible... if she looks like that now in incipient old age, she must have looked like a total harlot in her youth.

@healcannon This is one of the funniest things I've heard for a long time! I couldn't agree more-- she is like the Lady GaGa of organ music!

Look at 2:08 that's the first time I see/hear someone playing the pedal notes unslurred in this piece. Remarkable.

Let there sound forth from the nether regions:
A resounding quintupled "HUZZAH!!" followed by
a threefold antiphonal "AMEN!!" and squeals of delight!!
