  • I'm having problems installing it. When it rebbots after i download the file and run it, it goes to a screen thats says Ubuntu and loads but then gets an error code. any help?

  • @Portharian what speed did you burn the CD at, and did you check the md5sum of the ISO you downloaded?

  • @thisweekinlinux I burned it the first time at 42x but then at 8x. I got the .iso at ubuntu.com

  • @Portharian it's possible the .iso you downloaded was corrupted along the way. You might try redownloading and reburning at the slowest speed, or you can run md5sum against the .iso file from a terminal, and compare it to the one provided when you download Ubuntu.

  • My ASUS n61jv notebook is currently running Ubuntu 10.10. Everything is working just fine except for sleep.... Whenever I close my laptop and open it again it won't wake up. Apparently, this problem is caused by the kernel that ships with 10.10. On the forums people have said that the latest kernel resolves the problem. How do I upgrade to a newer kernel?

  • hey, when i upgraded from 10.04 to 10.10 some of the videos in firefox will not load or start playing. is there anything I may do?

  • @LAB1one Some of them won't load? Are they all flash-based?

  • @thisweekinlinux yes i believe they are flash based

  • @LAB1one It's not a problem I've experienced, but I'm running the Adobe 10.2 prerelease version of flash. There's a PPA you can add if you'd like to test it out. If you search "ubuntu 10.10 square ppa" there's an article on Webupd8 that talks about adding the PPA for it.

  • the final build is now available :)

  • fantastic

  • Are we still stuck with the god-awful Empathy IM incorporated in the me-menu? When I was running 10.04, if I installed pidgin the me-menu would sort of break it. As in changing status in the me menu would cause pidgin to disconnect and the other way around.

  • @jesteroot Sadly, I'd say it's probably going to behave the same way. This is the first time I've heard anything about it, because Ubuntu has moved so completely to Empathy. Definitely worth a try, and you could always file a bug against it.

  • you're a really good tech reviewer.

  • @naryanr Thanks so much. :) I hope to keep improving with more practice.

  • sudo dpkg -i file.deb ? :)

  • @SmartestViking That should definitely still be an option. :)

  • Hey, is there a way to change the side the buttons are on in the theme? Like Luminance's buttons are on the left be default, is there a way to move them to the right?

  • @AllAroundBang The easiest way is to use Ubuntu Tweak, it has an option built into it to do it. Alternately, gconf-editor can do it with a little bit of work.

  • @thisweekinlinux Wow, thanks Jordan! That tool sure seems useful! :)

  • @thisweekinlinux Out of all the tech reviewers across Youtube and possibly even the entire Web, I can safely say that you are one of the best. Keep up the good work, man.

  • @crunchy3neo thanks so much, man. It really means a lot.

  • Hey, i forgot talking to you about the Merkaat kernel. The kernel 2.6.35 is raising CPU temperature and then, *pif pif*. If Canonical won't fix it, they will have BIG problems.

  • @Mkbu I've been on 2.6.35 for quite a while now on my desktop, and haven't seen any issues.

  • I mad the transition this weekend from jaunty so far so good!

  • I've actually installed Ubuntu 10.10 RC today after running out of patience with OpenSuSE 11.3.

I'm currently using it as my Linux distro.

And it is EXCELLENT. Well worth the wait. I love the new appmenu, the new ubuntu font, which is now default, looks great, the system runs super fast and the graphics driver repo is, for once, up to date. Very lovely indeed. Also, my battery doesn't report time left, so Ubuntu estimates it. No other distro does this.

Very nice. Huge improvement over beta.

  • Ubuntu started to bug me out with every new release. I just don't like the things they focus on. So I switched to openSUSE.

  • Very informative video ! THANKS. Day after day Ubuntu comes better n better =)

    I'm using it since 8.04 :D

  • It does not look that bad, if I have to say so my self, and it has a play and stop in the volume control, very handy, loving that!

  • great review!

    I can't wait until the final versionn;P

  • Very nice, informative video - thanks. I've not used Ubuntu since 8.04 and this looks interesting. I'll keep an eye out for the final version.

    Keep up the good work!

  • @goldieken Nice! I hope it works out well for you. :) Thanks so much!

  • @heydude09876 I didn't know they used it for the making of The Matrix.

Seems CrApple may lose it's last shred of credibility with me.

  • Great video!

I use outrec to, and it's great.

  • @MetalShreader I should probably make a video about outrec at some point. The developer asked me to a while back, and I never got around to it.

  • Nice review! Thanks

  • @juppukun thanks, man. :)

  • FWIW, High Contrast theme is used by those who have poor eyesight, makes it actually easier for them to see what's on screen. I trained someone recently to use a computer program and he had things in high contrast because he can barely see. So I learned that myself only recently.

  • @GhoS64 yeah, I guess I just don't know that many people who have poor eyesight and use computers. One of the ladies I used to work with had a high contrast setup on a 30" screen and still needed binoculars. I completely forgot about her when I was making this. :/

  • What deb file lo longer work with Ubuntu what??? and I was hoping that they would bring the human theme back or at lest put window buttons back to the right and maybe change window buttons to what was they wore like in the human theme something that would look right to someone used to Windrows and yes I know you can get the Human Theme but it is a pain.

  • @someguy001001 nah, the deb I downloaded just wasn't created for Ubuntu 10.10.

I knew they wouldn't go back to the old theme. They've invested a lot of time in this new theme, so it's probably not going to go away.

  • @thisweekinlinux I don't what the new theme to go away I just what the Human theme to be included in Ubuntu.

  • @someguy001001 Hm, I hadn't even noticed that they completely removed Human and Clearlooks. I'm sure they're installable.

  • @thisweekinlinux Ya it is with some work.

  • I really love Synaptic. :(

  • @sk8rked From what I've been told, it's sticking around for the time being. It might get phased out somewhere down the road, but no time soon.

  • @sk8rked And even if it is phased out, it will still be installable (just like aptitude, gimp, and everything else they take out of the "default install")

  • 9 more days till the final build is released, might put this on my flash drive as well to boot off of.

  • @WorldOfANerd well that's not good. Might be worth filing a bug over.

  • Today in business class we were told a complete lie. We were first told Linux is a single free OS (we focused on Ubuntu only which "we" called Linux. We were also told Linux was slow, not as powerful as Windows, and overall not simple to use and install. How do you feel about this?

  • @GBH96 you could argue

    point by point

1 dont start class with a bold-face lie linux is not a single operating system it isn't an operating system at all it is a kernel for the GNU operating system also reffered to as GNU/Linux, there are currently more than 290 linux distributions and not all are free

2 linux runs on lower system requirements meaning it runs faster than windows on older hardware as well as newer hardware

    Continued...

  • @GBH96

    (part 2)

3 look for a few screenshots of Xpud (a lightweight linux distro) and tell me thats not really easy.

4 if linux wasn't as powerful as windows than why would it be used in the NYSE,GOOGLE,PIXAR even something like 70% (estimate) of all the current supercomputers run it. It was also used in the making of Avatar and the Matrix

that is what i would say...

  • I installed 10.10 for fun the other day as well, and I'm very impressed by the boot time. I felt Arch was quick as fu** but this is pretty fast as well. I really enjoy there now being a default .deb handler, I have yet to check out the ubuntu-font but I guess I will. So much has happened since I was a die hard linux fan in the late 90s (until only a few weeks ago), exciting times we live in! If I can get an nvidia card.. I can go back for real. This channel keeps me *nix-spirits up, cheers!

  • @Varghjarta well, there was a default .deb handler before, but this is a new way to do it. :)

If you can afford to get even a midrange Nvidia card, it's totally worth it. I bought the Evga GeForce GT240 (unboxing on my TWILTalks channel) and it's performing very admirably.

    Thanks for watching!

  • @thisweekinlinux I'm sorry, I didn't think about Archive or whatever the archive manager is(that was default for me usually), I meant something that can actually install the package :)

Also my grammar was of re being a linux user, I meant that I only just picked it back up since the late 90s, thus my new found ignorance, dude I suck at the written language xD

Thank you for the advice, I shall check out the unboxing asap!

  • @Varghjarta actually, before there was an app included called "gdebi" that could do it, and it would install dependencies as well, I forgot to mention that in the last comment. :)

  • Ubuntu is what saved me from buying a new pc, and it introduced me to the world of linux. Before that point, i didn't give much thought to it. Microsoft could be the Republican party, Apple the Democratic party, and Linux is like the independent that nobody votes for. But it unlocked the mythical awesomeness of it, and i know that if i ever need a solid OS and don't want to pay for it, i have a nice selection of linux distros at my fingertips :D

  • @psychoclown420 awesome, man! I'm so glad it's working out well for you.

  • GOD DAMN! DON'T GET RID OF SYNAPTIC! :-(( It's like getting rid of apt-get but for noobs :-)

  • @snowman4839 not happening yet! :) it might happen down the road, eventually, once the Software Center has matured quite a bit (probably 12.04 or beyond), but no time real soon.

  • @thisweekinlinux oh phew.... that actually would've made me mad. I just made the jump back into linux (Ubu 10.04) and I know how to use apt-get and aptitude fantastically but when I have to look for packages or install a lot of packages at once, I'll use synaptic.

  • pay......mnnn,is that a swear word...lol,but i do know why they are doing it,super vid..

  • @sneekylinux heh, I figure Canonical will hear quite a bit of that in the next few months, but if it helps bring some great software to Linux, I'm not questioning it. :)

  • @thisweekinlinux back at ya geez,as was said in the last ubuntu poddy, most users would pay if it any good..

  • @sneekylinux agreed, mate. :)

  • I hope Ubuntu 10.10 will fix the bug I'm getting where my system will just stop. Its rare but it happens, though I am aware that this strange freezing I'm experiencing could be my own doing from tinkering with the system I hope this release could resolve this. 2 years of ubuntu and two crashes (one of which I caused, beware of making a mistake on the terminal) is much better than Windows but I still hope my problem can be fixed. Sorry for the long post guys.

  • This is great news. I like the software center, since I'm not a very advanced user, it really helps me get software installed instead of dealing with that tarballs.

The integrated music controls are nice, but I don't see myself using them. Hotkeys are just easy.

  • @WorldOfANerd hm, that's odd. Did sleep work on older Ubuntu versions with that laptop?

  • where is the global menu?

  • @teelineuk in Ubuntu Netbook Edition. :)

  • @thisweekinlinux why? i thought 10.10 was gonna have a global menu ?~?!?!?!?1

  • It's a bit wired to see the software sources section under the software-center but I don't mind, as long as we can still add and remove sources like before.

The same for the deb-file installer.

But it shows definitely shows that they try to be different from typical Debian distributions.

At least I dunno any distribution that tries a similar way.

  • @MegaManNeo Exactly. I think they're trying to step out of the shadow of Debian just a bit with each release, and the software center is one of the big things for this.

  • i will be installing this if the livecd experience is good enough with my laptop, ever since lucid my touchpad always used to freeze, so mint 9 for now

  • @lindsaymobil22 I've actually had some weird issues with Mint on my laptop, at least with a USB mouse. Eh, I'll probably be installing this on it anyway

  • the funny thing is that ubuntu used to support my old thinkpad the worst, and now with this one, i only have to use 'nomodeset', and graphics performance is just fine. that's the biggest improvement for me. i might even install this on my 'one distro a week' partition.

yeah, the font looks agreeable, too, way better than that clunky sans. although it reminds me of segoe ui (microsoft's default font) ;)

  • @bamdadkhan awesome. :)

  • so are there any other new features?? doesn't seem like much of an upgrade... even though bug fixes are always good...

  • @elnegrobembon there are a few other features I talked about in videos I made about the beta and one of the alphas, and the netbook remix (yeah, I've probably made a few too many videos on this...)

  • @Bl4lock working on it. a lot of videos on the plate for the very near future. In fact, I'm taking this afternoon off of work to get some things done, I might see if I can go ahead and film that and get it ready to upload this weekend. :)

  • @WorldOfANerd nice, glad it's working for you. Like someone said earlier, if you right-click the menu, go to Edit Menus, you can checkmark it and add it back to the menu easily.

  • Orange everywhere? :(

Any change in the file-manager or something? and what about the netbook edition.?

  • @mohanr2222 no real changes in nautilus, and as far as I know, Unity is being polished more and more for the netbook edition. Sadly, I don't own a netbook anymore, so I can't really make videos about it at this point, unless I can get it working in a VM.

  • I hope they insert Ubuntu Support in the Software Center as an item you can buy. That will probably allow a lot more noobs to make the transition to Ubuntu.

  • @LuigiPeach you know, that's a really interesting idea. Might be worth putting into the Ubuntu Brainstorm?

  • @thisweekinlinux Ok, I'll give it a shot...

  • I got scared every time I see a "buy" button.... cuz money bring tons of ads... annoying ads and scams... like mandriva or windowz... i have no problem if you can buy and install photoshop and all the adobe crap suit... I just don't want them to throw me ads or update notifications on the face ALL the DAY as in windowz happens

  • I've been using it for a month, and maybe it's just me, but I could count the bugs with one hand. Overall, not massive changes, but it is the start of a new direction, by that I mean purchasing stuff. If you like it, download it right now.

  • looks like sugar on top. Wish Ubuntu did more serious bug kills rather than sugar coat.

  • @ctsfiddler You probably should use an upstream distro and notice it has more bugs, like nautilus not saving it's position and size. I personally think this version is more polished.

Some of the upstream distros like openSUSE still have horrid fonts, even though the font hinting patent has been cleared.

  • @ctsfiddler they're doing quite a bit of bug fixing as well, it's just hard to demonstrate the bugs that have been fixed.

  • I am currently working with the Alpha. The new fonts and just the way it looks seems much more polished.

  • @bobfever100 the alpha? if you've updated it, you're beyond the release candidate at this point. :)

  • @thisweekinlinux Yes it was updated last night. And I see there is a bunch of updateds today. Getting ready to install a new SSD with 10.10 . So that will be interesting...

  • Computer Janitor is still there. OH MY GOD!!!!!1

  • @HDErikBlog yeah, yikes... :/

  • I installed it on my computer and it runs very good. Thanks for the review!

  • @v1y1 nice! thanks so much!

  • from 10.04 GIMP was dropped from the installation. they shouldn't have done this.

  • @enduser64 yeah, it's a shame, especially when they added a video editor to the default install...

  • Lately, I've been quite particular about fonts I use I force them to be used throughout the system, including web pages. It gives a nice consistent feel to the desktop.

But a good variety of fonts has been lacking in Linux. Mostly I have been stuck with Droid. So, I was pretty glad when Ubuntu did their own. I think it is a beautiful font but not perfect. My biggest gripe is the 'S's. They look squashed horizontally and the curves just don't seem right. Also, small, bold text looks bad IMO.

  • @librano The selection of fonts really isn't an issue, since 2 minutes on Google can net you just about any font you can dream of. Font rendering remains an issue, however: smaller point sizes look pretty uniformly horrible and regardless of sub-pixel hinting settings, text with a heavy slant towards red, or blue is barely readable.

As for the Ubuntu font, it's a bit too stylised for general use and if you're going to add little touches to each letter, make sure they look good together, first.

  • @etnlIcarus Yes, I agree that changing fonts is easy. And IIRC Ubuntu is not the default UI font (yet at least). I was commenting on the font itself. It is a good, fresh typeface, but I think it could use a little more work.

Talking about font rendering, I prefer the way Linux renders fonts much more than Windows 7... and XP just plain makes me sick. Droid Sans renders beautifully at small point sizes, but that's porbably because it was meant for small screens.

  • @librano I agree with you about Windows font rendering, it's terrible. The heavy hinting retards just about every non-MS font you attempt to use. Apple unfortunately seem to be the only people who can get font rendering right. *nix has more flexibility than both combined by the general quality of antialiasing is somewhat lacking, SPH is defective and not every font kerns correctly with XFT/Pango.

  • @etnlIcarus I am yet to use a Mac post-1997... Ignorance just might be bliss :)

  • @librano btw, I think the new Ubuntu font is actually going to be the default UI/everything font in 10.10. Possibly not in editing programs, but everywhere else.

  • @etnlIcarus BTW, since I'm always looking for good fonts... what would you recommend for a LCD screen? common Linux fonts like DejaVu and Bitstream aside.

  • @librano This may seem lazy and I'm by no means an Apple fan but check out the Mac fonts like Lucida Grande (8pt min), Lucida Mac (8pt) [Bold] (7pt) and Monaco (monospace, 8pt). Aller Sans (same guys who made the Ubuntu font), Droid Sans, the medium-weight Futura fonts (> 8pt), Calibri (> 8pt) and Segoe and Segoe UI are also good. Antialiasing, no hinting.

I use Lucida Mac 8pt for normal Gtk+ widgets, Mac Bold 8pt for panels/titles/menus, 7pt for dialog windows and Monaco for text editors/term.

  • @etnlIcarus Thanks. I have tried a few of those, but not all. And yes... Lucida Grande is a nice font though not free.

  • Oh and there is a fix for the guest additions problem if you are interested.

  • @ttk1opc orly? what's that?

  • I think rythmbox in the sound menu will confuse new users, there is no indication as to where it goes when it is closed, and if music is playing it keeps playing, but to someone who doesn't know it appears to be gone.

  • @ttk1opc possibly, yeah. I know I've been annoyed more than a few times when I close it and it stays open in the tray.

  • 1. Right click the Menu Bar

    2. Click 'Administration'

    3. Tick 'Software Sources'

    Bam, Software Sources is back.

  • @hamtotem thanks for mentioning that. :)

  • what happened to Ubuntu. It use to be fully customizable. Now there on a route to windows vista. I loved 7.o4 when I first tried a distro. What happened to it?

  • @jackclark1981 what's not customizable?

  • It's all aesthetic? What's different under the hood, where it matters?

  • @CHVNX bugfixes, mostly. I know they fixed a screencasting bug with ffmpeg. most of the behind-the-scenes things are hard to demonstrate.

  • eh well... so they scratch gdebi but add in a few things I used to have to install by default... no biggie I guess. I suppose I'll just edit my little script I do on a first run and that'll take care of it.

Does it download dependencies for you if they are available like gdebi? If so I might just stick with it for a few days and give it a go.

  • @st3w132cki3l well, it's the software center, so it should do all the same sort of dependency resolution. I should probably download a deb file created for 10.10 and see how it works at some opint.

  • I hope this version fixes that weird battery eating bug. My laptop battery fully charged drains in 15 min. in 10.04. Windows drains it in about 3-4 hours.

  • @korwinblue whoa, that's a bit odd. Did you have to disable ACPI or something on it? I know a lot of laptops have problems with that. What model do you have?

  • @thisweekinlinux I have a Sony Vaio VGN-CR510E. I tried looking to find some way to fix this, but I can't. The only option would be for me to go back to 9.10 or a different distro(I want to use 10.04). I learned to live with it. If I'm near an outlet, I'd use Ubuntu and keep whatever files I'm working on in Dropbox or a usb thumb drive. I like using linux because the multiple desktops come in handy on such a small screen. I'll just wait for 10.10.If that doesn't fix it,I'll move to a new distro.

  • @thisweekinlinux BTW, check this out! Times are changing! goo . gl/GeGf

  • @korwinblue Wow, it's about time. :)

  • has anyone been able to get banshee to work with the sound menu? the plugin doesn't seem to work at all

  • Paying for wallpaper wtf? I might just try this version, even tho i've sworn off ubuntu, i'm liking LMDE tho. The debian thing seems weird, it won't install due to dependencies? Then how are you meant to install it, by manually sorting out the dependencies yourself or something? Sounds like it would've have been better to stick with gdebi.

  • @codebean The wallpaper is just to test if the store works properly, I guess. It says something like that in there.

  • @librano Oh thnx that makes sense now, i heard it was meant to have at least one package ready by shipping, fluendo, which is kinda sad, but maybe they should put that in for testing give them something useful to test with then they might get more ppl testing.

  • @CryptedTales I think earlier builds had the Fluendo codecs in there.

Anyway, they have started putting together a submission and review process to get applications into the store. One thing I noticed is that all software in the store has to be Open Source for now. So that basically eliminates things like Photoshop. Probably why they removed Fluendo as well.

I'd consider the store in beta testing at least until 11.04.

  • @codebean well, the software I tried wouldn't install because it was packaged for 10.04, and the software versions it needed probably aren't available in 10.10. It's just not been repackaged for it yet.

  • As for upgrading to new Ubuntu versions, what I generally tell people is upgrade during the Release Candidate stage to avoid slow downloads come release day. I'm doing my upgrading tomorrow morning!

  • @drmgiver definitely not a bad idea. There can still be some major bugs in it, but those might still be there on release day too, so it makes little difference.

  • Adding in software sources is as easy as editing the menu

  • @drmgiver ah, didn't realize that. I guess I figured it must still be out there, since it's doable within USC and Synaptic.

  • Nothing major it seems, I'm still going to upgrade (to rock a new software center, its the little things).

  • @TheKaycen yeah, not a huge amount of difference between the beta and the rc, a bit more polish and some behind-the-scenes bugs.

  • Thanks for this demo.

  • @stmpoodle thanks for watching it! :)

  • Not sure I like the window buttons so much compared to the last version but like anything Linux, that can be easily changed first thing anyway :D

In any case, looks great and great review!

  • @ElderSnake90 you know, I didn't really even look at the window buttons. :P

  • Great review!

But, what was so offensive about the wallpaper in their default?

  • @Synicade in the beta, it just looked like they had taken the wallpaper from 10.04 and put a couple of big obnoxious orange dots on it. :P

  • Are you still using Ubuntu as your main OS or Arch?

  • @FearedBliss nope, Arch on the desktop. I've still got Mint 9 on my laptop though. I think I'll hold out until 10/10 and put it on my laptop to test, but I'm a big fan of Arch, so I'll probably still be there on the desktop.

  • @thisweekinlinux lol alright you Archer :D

  • can i use ubuntu as main OS?

  • @KINGof100KINGs Very much so! I do!

  • 10.10 Can't Wait!

    UBUNTU NEEDS CHROME BY DEFAULT!

  • @StrangeRandomChannel Chrome has some closed source components. It will never make it into default Ubuntu. Maybe Chromium... but it also has some Google tracking stuff in it.

  • @librano Iron ftw?

  • I knew you'd do it. I was waiting for it. I guess it has improvements to stability mostly, but I?ll still wait till final release in 10 days :D

  • @diegovalencr yeah, I know I've been covering Ubuntu quite a bit through the release process. I've got several other distros on the reviewing block in the near future though. :)

  • Due to my vision, I would use High Contrast Large Print, but for some reason it tends to cut off too much (and that bugs the heck out of me).

  • @rml695 ahh yes. I worked with someone that had to use extremely high contrast large print, and I think she had to use binoculars on top of that. Hm.

  • @rml695 Someone suggested i should try the beta, but since what I'm on is my new personal PC, I'm a little hesitant to try it...what do you think as far as the odds of it throwing up? Also, was it on 10.10 that they said the boot times would be faster or was that 10.04? I'm finding I get to the login screen faster than I did on my Mac.

  • @rml695 they've been working on boot times quite a bit for the last few releases, so they should all be pretty fast at this point. As far as trying it on your PC, usually it's safe to try out an RC, but be warned, there could still be some major bugs in it. Not likely, but definitely possible.

  • Im thinking about giving 64-bit another try with Ubuntu 10.10. I use 32-bits now because flash was slower for some reason on 64 and Adobe Air wasn't running all apps properly.

  • @0frecel0 I'm not sure about Air, but there's a version of 64-bit Flash available now from Adobe Labs (it's called a pre-alpha, I think), I've got it on my desktop and laptop, and it hasn't crashed one time, even after live streaming twice a week.

  • WOW cool review

  • @Lynnc83 thanks a lot!

  • WOW! You're fast...

I just noticed this on distrowatch and in the same time this video was ready here, on YT. ^_^ I really like the new Ubuntu font, it's stylized but not overly decorative so that it wouldn't "get in the way". ^_^ There's not much left for me to say then "I can't wait for Linux Mint now". ^_^

    Great job as usual! ^_^

  • @kad3t :) thanks. I actually caught this hitting some of the mirrors at about 1pm Eastern, when only about 1/2 of the mirrors actually had it. Sadly, I had to render 4 seperate times because of different little things, and for some reason it took 40 minutes each time. Weird.

  • @thisweekinlinux

I see that you have some more issues on top of the mentioned in TWILtalks channel? Not good... But I suppose every obstacle crossed teaches us something new. ^_^ Oh, and did you got around trying that GLC yet?

  • @kad3t well, the 4 times thing was stupid mistakes on my part. :P the sync on this video was actually pretty close, but I didn't use recordmydesktop. I recorded another one today that I believe is even closer.

I tried GLC with Amnesia. if I record the audio with audacity (mic audio) and let glc capture the game audio, it works really well. :)

  • @thisweekinlinux

Seems like a lot of work, but since you planned on doing it for a while and it looks as if it will be an interesting video, it may actually be worth that kind of involvement. ^_^ I'm not sure how good recordmydesktop would work whilst recording a game but I've done few HR Ready screencasts with it before and it worked like a charm, so it may be something with your config, cause I don't believe that my 3 year old laptop is anwhere as powerful as your PC. ^_^

  • @kad3t yeah, it's a bit of work, but not really much more than I would do to make a normal news video (capture the video with the cam, the audio with audacity, convert the camcorder footage from a .mts to something else, sync it up in kdenlive, edit)

recordmydesktop definitely didn't work for the game, sadly. loads of video delay (5-7 seconds or more)
