All those things combined with living amidst the rampant racism of Orange County at the time were somehow blown away by this beautiful music I later came to know as alternative hip hop. Needless to say, a lot of emotions are brought up hearing this song, especially in its instrumental form.

As I see it, this music is one of the few bright spots in one of the most trying moments of my life (the early 90s with one of the worst economic times. For a couple of years my parents were out of work, on the brink of homelessness, and having to constantly borrow money from family friends. Presents, food, and the tree provided to us by our local Catholic Church were often our entire Christmas celebration. The church and local food bank provided 100% of our Thanksgiving meals.
