  • What a bunch of rubbish..... I've been playing the blues for 35 years, I'm American, and Rory Gallagher is my favorite entertainer of all time. Period. I don't give a damn where he's from, people know pain from all over the world. I hate stupid contentious arguments like this one. Just enjoy Rory, and Peter Green, for what they are. Damn fine musicians who played their souls for you to see.

  • The Blues was shaped, formed and raised by American Black musicians. To say otherwise is just ridiculous. The Blues is high art, and just like painting any 3yr old can do it. But, it's not just about notes. Most play "Blues" songs totally disconnected from the heart, with the soul of it watered down almost beyond recognition. Rory was one of FEW Europeans who understood that to be a great master, you have to know your history, know your instrument and know your place in tradition.

  • @knobwarts123 i dont know mate u would nee to have a crossroads compitition to decide, but rory, green n clapton r jst as good as wot ive heard from the states

  • Doc Watson ... Black Mountain Rag.

Country and Blues are joined at the hip.

  • Americans nor irish or any other country makes the best blues. Humans make the best blues.

  • @knobwarts123 I say you're not a blues musician, but a spectator with no soul.

  • Enjoy Rory, he is the blues. THE BEST . music knows no color, no nationality

    this man lived to play

  • Yes the blues Rory can play! But lets be clear on where the music originated! The Mississippi Delta! Here in the South! by the black man!!! and really no one sounds as good as the black man singing the blues!

  • BS

Blues is White music.. Appalaichin, Railroad, Gospel and Country.

Blacks bastardized it is all. Bar structure is White, always has been.

There is NO Blues in Africa or South America!

  • @StSimonMartyr You're wrong, there are blues in africa, ethiophians guitar players are just fucking awesome playin the blues,

  • Blues did not originaite in Ethiopia, shit 4 brains.

But in America, from White Gospel, White Railroad and black plantation workers.

  • @knobwarts123 Americans are the blues, who in the hell you think he's trying to play like? Muddy Waters, Jimi Hendrix, Chuck Berry, Robert Johnson, B.B. King. I could make a list long as your arm. He' thinks he's goin' to Chicago? You even have to sing like us, you lost your marbles

  • @jczother You sir was never at a Rory Gallagher concert !!

  • Awesome. If anyone outside of the U.S. should know about the blues, it's the Irish!

  • @MrSampo1 point taken...

  • long live the blues ! ;D

  • I credit the brits with reminding us of our rich blues heritage. Brit or american, the blues knows no bounds. It's the soul that makes the music. It's all good!

  • @jenniferjuniper97

But Rory is neither - he's Irish!

  • @nmacparthalain ooops. mybad! don't know how I messed that up!

  • This sounds like a mandolin. Would I be correct in this assumption?

  • @ryrodye I think you are. That was the first thing I noticed.

  • The blues knows no bounds.

  • Lovely, thanks!

  • perfect blues by a perfect bluesman!

  • Dear Andria260807,

My favourite recording of all the blues I know. It has everything. This man is astoundingly talented. It's got to be the best hit-the-highway song ever laid down.

    Thank you for your taste!

  • Shivers down my spine!

  • @knobwarts123

I say you're a person who doesn't understand that music is a universal language, and is intended to bring people together, not divide them.

    peace & music.

  • @knobwarts123 I cant really argue with you. Every musical genre has its greats no matter where they come from. It doesnt matter where your from if youve got the music in your soul and a passion for what you play, thats what really counts. Rory is ablsolutely amazing I dont know why but his music just moves me.

  • Loved Rory :) Saw him In Pompey:)

  • c'mon the 12 string!!

  • Hey, don't forget. "The blues, are just one man feeling bad." It doesn't matter where you hang your hat, or purse. I saw Rory several time back in the day, never got to see Peter Green, but was raised on Bluesbreakers and Mac, and John Lee Hooker et. al. It's just the blues man. Blues On!

  • Hey, the blues, are just one man feelin' bad. It ain't got nuthin' to do with where you hang your hat, or purse.

  • knobwarts comment America has and has had more great Blues musicians because as andria put it America is where it all started. If you truly understood the blues you would know it is in your bones your born with it. It is emotional to play and to listen to. your location on the map has nothing to do with it. Rory Gallagher had as much soul in him as anyone I have heard . He could stand beside any of our artist and belong there. He had the gift and we lost something special. Irish or not.

  • Brits and blues? Kindly, Rory is Irish from Donegal and raised in Cork, burried near beautiful Ballincollig. He's one of ours and he's a national treasure.

The Irish when we aren't being green, are the blues.

  • @andria260807 thank you

  • Love British Blues and especially Rory and Peter Green but dont can Johnny Winter he is right up there with the best theres ever been.

  • Brits and blues are awesome.... Rory is great! Peter Green aswell... dont forget Jeremy Spencer. Even Clapton... Johnny Winter are a Toddler compared thats how i see it

  • Think i missed not a single concert from him in Berlin during the mid seventies to the late eighties.

Great musician, nice guy and a great performer.

  • Dig it...Damn Fine!

R.I.P. Rory....Sadly missed but never forgotten.

  • Ah Rory you were so fuckin good. Tonight I'll sleep on a walking cane!

  • This is so good it hurts! Tks for the posting....

  • Holy Fuck!!! This is phenominal!!!!

  • @MimiFriday unfortunatelty chief dont mind the spelling but rory has passed away.probably longer than your alive, listen.

  • @seanlucky7 Er....I am well aware Rory has passed away! I've been a fan for a number of years. Considering he passed in 1995 and I am 32 so no - not longer than I'm alive! ;-) (AKA MimiFriday!)

  • @MollyTurbin sorry molly at that moment in time i was so intoxicated with the music and playing of rory

  • he meant what he said all you chiefs...ok.

  • Please, guys, who are "they"??? American blues is black blues, slave blues, no one of you has ever gotten so low down to rise again to such heights, if ever (hardly any of them experienced before they died, some did like Willie Dixon, John Lee Hooker, Howlin Wolf, Son House, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee, Big Mama Thornton, and and and). Rory & Pete (& John Mayall, Alexis Korner, Keith R., Robert Zimmerman, Eric C. etc. are all disciples, just listen to them introducing their songs

  • Rory is the best. Fact ! R.i.P.

  • Since Irisch Tour already a fan and the valuation continues to grow with the years and every time I turn back to his music

  • Fantastic

and what an exellent drumjob, anyone know who?

    tintin

  • Fantastic version, in my view better than the original. Apparently Mr.Green enjoyed Rory's numebrs the most on the Rattlesnake Guitar album, although whilst Rory plays this exceptionally, I'm not wild about his version of Showbiz Blues.

  • I feel privilged to have seen Rory play here in the States as many times as I had. Rory was one of those musicians that you HAD to see live to capture his brilliance. Perhaps the most delightful guitarst I have ever seen literally grace the stage. I remain an ardent fan. The pensive ache and longing on this cut (1 of 2 on this recording) make me weep everytime I here it. ThanX for posting it. I've found that there are many fans not even aware of this track.

  • Envy you. You speak with passion and I hear ya. I never knew this track. I sat in joy listening to this. To see him live must been an absolute joy.

  • Comment removed

  • Reminds me of Skynyrds Mississippi Kid....and I'll be the first to say that's a GOOD thing. Love Rory...immortal.

  • super muziek ik heb rorry gallager een maand of acht ondekt supper gewoon

  • This has got to be one of the best blues songs ever, sung by two of the greatest blues artists ever!!!

  • Rory playing a 12 string guitar !!!

Sure he could do but I think these photographs are rare. Thanks for posting.

Could anyone give me other samples???

  • the pics are from a video posted by againstthegrain57 called something like "maybe his last tv appearence"

  • Thanks for reminding me this post.

I had been on ATG57 's document since that time, but I didn't remember having posted.

    ;-) well seen

  • true man, i love my america ...but damn rory beats any modern american blues players in my opinion... but check out Davey Knowles and Back Door Slam theyre from the UK and Davey is heavily influenced by rory.. i just saw them in concert and it was amazing

    peace

    RIP Rory

  • there are good people from both countries?

  • One of my main musical goals in life has been to "edicate" the american public of Rorys extranordinary talents he had within his way too shortly lived career. Peter Greene, on the other hand, at least gained sizable recognition here with Fleetwood Mac. The fact that the U.S. is the craddle, doesn`t mean everyone in America ever listened to the trully great musicians we`ve always had here either!

And let`s not forget Savoy Brown!

    I`m through.

  • Ah yes ;) The Great "Savoy Brown" Methinks i still have all of their original LP's

  • I agree, 100%. With all due respect to USA as the cradle of the blues and all their greats, still - Rory and Peter are just two examples - non-Americans can also do blues! ;-)

  • You bet they can!!

  • Don't forget Gary Moore...

  • @andria260807 Don`t forget Eric Clapton lads...

  • @murrayisthebest I forgot about Mr.Clapton when I started listening to Mr. Gallagher!

  • @andria260807 Your nuts too, look at the post!

  • This was my absolute fave cut off "Rattlesnake Guitar" from day one. Rory at his very best! What a phenomenal performance.

  • This is a song that can make me cry after a couple of beers. There ain't much songs that mean so much to me

  • I love Greeny and Fleetwood Mac, but this version is so much better than the original. Totally inspired. When I first heard it, I thought it was the 'original' by a black bluesman... this is simply stunning.

  • This really is one of his best works, was it recorded in 95 yeah?

  • This is a fantastic number, would've love to have seen Rory doing this! 5*
