I'm atheist and I love this song.. Part of the reason I'm atheist is because of all the things religion starts. Look at the middle east, religion based wars. Our politics are infected with religion. when my grandpa was alive my dad and I would take him to the veterans hospital.... you'd hear them screaming, yelling and being drugged up.. I come from a military family but I thank GOD everyday they come home safe. This makes me think of all those who we lost and who came back with problems. <3

This song is played for every friend/family member who dies in my life. It is very cathartic. The boys did a great job with this one. It wasn't the typical ballad from the 80s. They did what few hair bands would do: talk about issues in their music. Whether it was teenage runaways, excesses of LA life (in a bad way, not celebrating), or other social issues, these boys sang about it.
Classically great song. To me it represents how callous we all can be. It's a reminder for all of us to pay more attention to people who are in pain. As a Christian I personally love the line about the homeless under the broken sign, "That used to read Jesus Saves." We all need to step up, and help the hurting. If you are hating America, make it a better place, and be part of the solution, not part of the problem.
Not to be a moodkiller but, discussions about God and religion and whether America or mankind is going down a wrong path are simply irrelevant to this beautiful music, it's a song, it can be taken many different ways, but i think discussing the corruption of the world here is very unneccesary. I was going to sign up for the air force when i graduated high school and my uncle Ronnie is a Vietnam vet and he told me he was a marine, how he got there and what it was like he was there for most of it from 1962 - 1973 its really interesting what he tells me and he also remembers all the napalm strikes. i thank him every day and this song reminds me of him he didnt kill himself but he fought for his country <3

He lists his own personal anguish in the second verse for a reason. What he's actually saying is that his faith not only in God but in good has been shaken. So he's asking God to please give him SOMETHING to believe in, when everything seems bad, nothing seems good anymore.

I got to see Bret Michaels at the R.O.T rally in Austin Tx. back of june 2010 man he put on a good show . I can't say that for some of the others that were there that weekend .
My uncle served in vietnam as a field medic he made it home only to find that he was no longer welcome he eventualy lost his wife and kids and then hung himself! Maybe if our country would have stood up for our brave men and women he could have been able to handle things better. my husband is a vietnam veteran who did 2 tours there- said when he came home him and the other soldiers had to be led in a separate entrance at the airport- to prevent being shot at ,spat at, etc. finally after all these years he is getting the help he needs-

when my grandpa was alive my dad and I would take him to the veterans hospital.... you'd hear them screaming, yelling and being drugged up.. I come from a military family but I thank GOD everyday they come home safe. This makes me think of all those who we lost and who came back with problems. <3

When I went into the army in 91, I memorized this song so that I'd have self encouragement for what I was about to experience in boot camp. And as I was riding the cattle truck to my basic area in Ft . Benning. I would sing this song. I went in and completed basic training successfully. I hadn't heard this song since. Until yesterday while I was driving, I had a really crappy day, and felt a lot better after I heard it on the radio.

This song is played for every friend/family member who dies in my life. It is very cathartic. The boys did a great job with this one. It wasn't the typical ballad from the 80s. They did what few hair bands would do: talk about issues in their music. Whether it was teenage runaways, excesses of LA life (in a bad way, not celebrating), or other social issues, these boys sang about it.

Classically great song. To me it represents how callous we all can be. It's a reminder for all of us to pay more attention to people who are in pain. As a Christian I personally love the line about the homeless under the broken sign, "That used to read Jesus Saves." We all need to step up, and help the hurting. I was going to sign up for the air force when i graduated high school and my uncle Ronnie is a Vietnam vet and he told me he was a marine, how he got there and what it was like he was there for most of it from 1962 - 1973 its really interesting what he tells me and he also remembers all the napalm strikes. i thank him every day and this song reminds me of him he didnt kill himself but he fought for his country <3

@BibleStudy1611 The meaning is actually a little deeper than what's on the surface. He lists all these bad things as examples, yet lists no good ones. He lists his own personal anguish in the second verse for a reason. What he's actually saying is that his faith not only in God but in good has been shaken. So he's asking God to please give him SOMETHING to believe in, when everything seems bad, nothing seems good anymore.

I am sick of you assholes making this song about war and only war! This song was written because one of his good friends died from a drug overdose! He put one bit in about the Vietnam war because it was a sad and tragic war for the United States. Stop trying to push your messed up and ill-informed views on people. And if you have a problem with war go to Africa and preach your peace to the warlords killing innocent people there everyday!

@ryanhorak1 i agree but one crucial part i need to say here these guys (well most of them) have a good point we need to honor all war vets theyve had to do shit that no one wishes they had to do they witnessed crap that will be embedded in their heads forever my dad is a war vet and he has been shot witnessed friends die and has had to kill a ton of people not all of them hostile those images will never leave him honor your vets they dont want to be at war they have to to defend you all

Yes this song is dedicated to his good friend that passed away. But if you attend ANY of his concerts, he is very thankful for all of our American troops, past and present. FDR felt the country was war weary and wanted to end the war, thus signing the Yalta agreement.,sealing the fate of 50 million innocent lives. I got to see Bret Michaels at the R.O.T rally in Austin Tx. back of june 2010 man he put on a good show . I can't say that for some of the others that were there that weekend .

My uncle served in vietnam as a field medic he made it home only to find that he was no longer welcome he eventualy lost his wife and kids and then hung himself! Maybe if our country would have stood up for our brave men and women he could have been able to handle things better. To all past and present men and women who have gave some or gave all for our freedom I thank you all! GOD BLESS AND PROTECT ALL OF YOU!

my husband is a vietnam veteran who did 2 tours there- said when he came home him and the other soldiers had to be led in a separate entrance at the airport- to prevent being shot at ,spat at, etc. finally after all these years he is getting the help he needs-
