@imita01 - Your comments remind me how ignorant I used to be.
1-Look at scales, music theories as maps in a huge country/city. It will save you a lot of time/energy and you will become very creative. Without that you will "eat bread and water" (play G,C) your whole life and your guitar will end up in the basement sooner or later:-).
2-Hendrix, as a poor kid, learned things from a lot of people, SRV learned from his brother and other people. They didnt become great by ignoring m. knowledge.
If it helps, I'm currently working on GuitarJamTracks(.)com
I'm gathering a collection of free guitar backing tracks created by different people and organizing them by key, tempo, suggested scales. I would love to get any feedback I can get so I can make the site more useful.
Jordan. Scales are just a series of notes on an istrument that sound good together, people use them becuase it gives different intervals of notes which help to organize the players ideas when using that instrument , And scales are boringto use at first hut learn them, and learn the minor
I play the major scales as well as the natural, melodic, and harmonic minors on piano and to a lesser extent, guitar. Music is aural and each scale has a mood or feeling attached to it. Music is also visual in learning the patterns for each scale or mood with my fingers. The scale teaches you every note that will 'sound right' when you play. Anyone can play the right notes if they know where they are, regardless of actually hearing it.
haha I love it when ppl buy a guitar and as soon as they learn a scale they think theyre an expert and should be teaching other people how to play lol YOU SUCK
The trick is to learn scales on a piano first. Once you realize how boring it is to play scales on a piano, playing scales on the guitar is incredibly fun.
@terroristofmeh hi man,can u tell me what a scale is and what is the use of them and how exactly are solos "built" on scales, and how many scales are there approximately, because i don't know any scales and i don't know where to learn them so plz if u can be of any help private message me and tell me
@terroristofmeh You are correct. Leads (solos) are built from scales and modes. What a lot of people don't know is that chords are also derived from scales and modes, and, therefore, knowing them makes one a much better musician, while not knowing them is very limiting.
@terroristofmeh. Disagree, i didn't learn the guitar based off of scales and stuff at first. I learned how to play the trombone, trumpet, and various other brass instruments in that manner since I had to play those instruments in large symphonies and orchestras when I was younger, but to me the guitar is about individual expression. I mean come on, most people that play aren't gonna be in a band or go into virtuoso style music.. Just get the sounds out of your brain, just plug and play man.
@terroristofmeh... Also, Jimi Hendrix didn't read music and didn't always play perfectly in scale... And, I think he was decent right? Also, there what about stevie ray vaughan.. he just played by ear. I mean come man, The scales aren't the basis for the guitar... to me they are just patterns within the guitar, and in that sense saying someone needs to learn the scales to play guitar is equally bogus as saying you gotta learn the guitar to play scales..
@aenima187 yea you can totally play a blender but u may not be able to hit ALL the notes lol, unless you have a blender with lots of buttons,i tune my tattoo machine to F SHARP for lining and to D for shading lmao :)

lol i thought i was the only one that noticed at first. so a friendly advice to all beginers.... do alternate picking. up, down, up down etc. always do it!!!. its an important technique for lead playing.

If you are playing in G, moving to the 12th position isn't making you play the relative minor. If the song is in G major you are playing in G major wherever you are. This is why newbs are confused about theory. These guys are dangerous.

to change from one key to another you simply play the same pattern on the fret for the first note, also called a root. like to play in A minor you play pattern one on the fifth fret, assuming you are tuned to E. look up the five pentatonic patterns for minor. play them slow and perfect. use a metronome if you can tolerate it. no rush you have all the time left of your life. Jesus saves! ^_^
i wish someone could explain how thise works i mean theres a lot of C major scales but i dont understand how you tage a c minor into a g minor. where can i go to just read and learn what this all means i know what scales are im just having a hard time understanding the solos and acending descending shit.
