I've explained this SO many times already. The Japanese text translates to "Po-key" thus, Pokey. Not to mention they could have very well changed it too. Its very common for things to be changed during localization. But, that's not the case...its also good to note that Super Smash Bros. Gets a lot of information wrong.

Your argument of "it translates directly to Pokey" is false. It translates directly to Poki. The Japanese have no natural 'R' sound so they just left it out because it sounds more correct than Poruki.

Itoi himself stated at a conference that Pokey was a mistranslation, and he was always intended to be named Porky. as jonny40000 said, that's the reasoning behind the pigmask army, as well as new pork city. the mistranslation was too late into production (mainly already been sold all across the world) to recall it.
