  • WINDOWS USERS LOVE THIS ONE!

  • it seems amzing, gonna download it just right now!!! thnx for the amzing review, it was really usefull to me!!

but i am wondering, i dont know much about linux but does the VM or wine or what ever u call it work without having windows preinstalled on the computer??

and one more thing, u have mentioned something about mac, could it be virtualzed like windows on pinguy??

  • Dude how is DVB-T and/or ATSC support?

  • Whoever made Pinguy OS is a legend

  • I seem to maybe have found a hidden feature in pinguy 11.04. I did a clean install and was about to restore my bookmarks from firefox from my last distro and I noticed under restore there were a few previously backed up bookmarks. If you restore the 12/05/10 or the 01/06/10 back ups in a bookmark folder called Video there is another folder called Porn with a few porn sites already bookmarked. At least this happened on my install. Anyone confirm Pinguy 11.04 is the Linux that comes with porn lol?

  • @thackythac Lol! I hadn't even noticed that myself. Took a look in the VM on my machine at home, and you're absolutely correct. I pointed it out to Pinguy so he can take care of it. Lol. :P

  • @thisweekinlinux That's a feature all distributions should have LOL

  • First: thank you for showing me this OS

Second: could you actually install distro's? i mean this one behaved very strangely when installed rather than in VM

  • Feels like more and more linux user-friendly distros like the Mac OSX interface...

  • Thanks for doing this review. It gave me something to switch over to from Ubuntu 11.04. Tried it, loved it, hope it just keeps getting better and better.

  • downloaded it... installed it... LOVE IT... thanks for the review!

  • I've installed this dual-booting with windows and it's AWESOME! love it, it looks and feels like a Mac like it!

  • there is two news about mandriva look at its english community forum i cant give you links here because youtube refuse to submit a comment with the links any way the news there have these two titles =================== Interviews with Arnaud Laprévote and Stéphane Laurière Communication from Rosa Lab ================== as i said you can find those titles at mandriva english community in community chat forum
  • Another Ubuntu based distro that i like very much is Netrunner.

Good distro review sir thank you.

  • I'm seeing quite a few comments about how people are not liking Pinguy and i think it would be great if you could do a video on Zorin OS 4 as it is much more user friendly for both windows and mac users that are just getting into linux.. There are very few videos on Zorin on YT and none of them are done nearly as well as you could do and i think alot of people would enjoy Zorin.

  • @WarShipSayTen unless I missed it, isn't Zorin just Ubuntu with a different theme on it to make it look like Windows? Been a little while since I looked at it.

  • @thisweekinlinux In addition to that it does have a few glitches of its own as I've already tinkered around with it myself and started out in it's "sandbox" mode of what it calls it safe applications from its software center.

  • i like this is there a way to put this on my cr-48

  • i tested this on my nettbox and i like it alot. cool way they sett it up by defult

  • Actually Ubuntu 11.04 has the global menu for Desktop as well, just hover over the top menu when don't have any window in focus and you will get options like Places, File, Edit, etc. Just don't show "Desktop" in the panel.

  • @mohanpram yup, it does. I thought I mentioned that? It's just different. This one shows up all the time, doesn't fade out.

  • Thank you for your video. I was actually going to try Pinguy OS this weekend, but now I won't. Through your video I know that's nothing for me openbox user...

    greez gnomeye

  • @Gnomeye if you're an openbox user, just about anything Gnome/Unity/Gnome3 based is probably going to look like something you're not interested in. :P

  • @thisweekinlinux The thing is, I was for about 5 years a gnome user @ ubuntu since 6.06.

This Year, Unity and gnome3 changed my mind.. Still, I'm keeping a virtualbox gnome 3 release on arch to keep watching how gnome develops...

  • This looks interesting. I am afraid it is bloated and slow... But I will try this, might be better than my ubuntu 10.04.

  • hey man where i mandrivas news

all your videos here are talking about fedora and ubuntu

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

ok i got some news about mandriva could you put it at your next video

  • @sameyieyir if you've got a piece of news, definitely feel free to let me know about it. :)

  • hey man where is mandrivas news

all of you videos is talking about fedora and ubuntu

  • @sameyieyir I mention Mandriva/Mageia every time they have an alpha/beta/rc/etc., I just haven't had the time to install and test it out yet. Once they both release, I do intend to go over them.

  • am new to linux and this pinguy os seems interesting ...... Please make a video on how to install this on windows computer

  • lol that was a creepy wallpaper.....

  • @profetik777 agreed entirely.

  • what is that screenlet

    on the right hand side?

  • @yld629 you mean conky?

  • @thisweekinlinux Yes, sorry I typed that question prior to watching the whole video.

  • hi can u help me i have a problem a big one i cant install ubuntu 11.04 cuz the screen goes black totally black i cant see i thing . im using a acer laptop 5734z and u are saying that pinguy is base in ubuntu 11.04 maybe i run with the same problem again or not please can u do a video about what can we do to fix the problem or tell those guys to correct the problem

  • @leonardo9338 do you know what sort of graphics you've got in your laptop?

  • thanks the helpful review!

  • that what I hate with unity.. just a little bit of consistency all I ask for :)

  • TeamViewer does have a Linux client. BTW, TV is great. I've used it on Windows, Mac, and Linux.

  • @FearedBliss it does? their site shows one, but it might be the wine-wrapped one. not sure.

  • @thisweekinlinux yea you are right. I just opened up the .tar.gz and it has .wine etc in there.

  • @thisweekinlinux It is wine-wrapped. I use it a lot to help my grandfather and some friends.

  • I like your reviews. compared to the OSGUITechShow.

    He's so boring.

Plus: He's against you. Lol, have you seen his bulletin on his YouTube Channel?

    Man, that guy is vicious.

  • @MicroHelper I don't think that's directed at me. At least I hope it isn't.

  • @thisweekinlinux

He's definitely talking about you. Go look again.

  • @joguSD I don't see anything specifically mentioning me, and I'm not going to assume anything.

  • @thisweekinlinux okay, but he um... well, isn't very friendly when it comes to you.....

  • @jazzmaster700 sorry to hear that, but you can't please everyone.

  • @thisweekinlinux you are way cooler, because you are the only person on youtube that isn't upset about this, but I know why he is mad, it is because you are way cooler!

  • @thisweekinlinux Don't feel bad...he really doesn't like anyone else who even thinks about doing Linux stuff on youtube....I eventually accepted it and stopped...but I may have to start again cause I'm getting messages asking me to lol.

  • @thisweekinlinux Could you do a review on slackware by any chance?

  • @MicroHelper yea I stopped watching him once he went crazy on his gay rant. Not that I have anything against gay people but he just went crazy on it.. nobody was even caring that he was gay and he kept going on and on about it. Dude.. just do the Linux reviews, nobody cares about your personal life !

  • @FearedBliss OMG, he's gay??? Gross. Lol, I had no idea.

And he's narration over the videos have so many editing-cuts. I can't barely understand him too.

  • @MicroHelper Yea he is because he said it himself, but that's not the problem. The problem is that some commenters were saying stupid stuff to him and he took it to heart (which I understand, it does affect the youtuber but you have to be strong because we are on the web.. stupid people everywhere), and he went on a rampage.. I was like.. "I would rather listen to someone that can handle his personal situations then someone who is unstable".

  • @MicroHelper I don't see him pointing to TWIL. but yeah. OSGUI is like a drama person, every other week he bashes some youtuber lol. :P

  • yea this is basically ubuntu ... the linux community needs to start working together to improve maybe one or two os instead of creating hundreds of derivs

  • @TheX3Gamer Amen Bruthah!

  • whats the linux object dock called?

  • @grandmasterhack the dock being used in this distro is "docky"

  • I like the combination. At this point i believe everyone is trying other alternatives.

  • Verry nice video :) you mase me wanna try it :D Keep up the good work :D

  • lol "terribly useful." Love it :D

  • Sure is bloat in here.

  • looks sweeeet...

i am so changing my Kubuntu distro for this :D

  • those might come back after just logging out and then back in maybe

  • The docky thing seems like a virtual box thing, and not a punguy bug. I will try this OS out myself. Looks interesting. Something I would recommend to a windows user.

  • that conky setup has nice icons ... any pointers on where I can learn more to configure like that?

  • Ubuntu 11.04 + Conky tutorial please? Because apparently I'm retarded and can't make it work? :(

  • WoW!! How did they integrate Skype in the MeMenu?? I want that to my Ubuntu 10.10 right now!! :)

  • WTF BRUH

I CLICKED ON THIS THINKING I WAS GUNNA SEE DAT BEARD.

  • is pinguy os linux or os x xD

  • @Awesome619Legend lol. it's Linux. Ubuntu 11.04 plus a lot of stuff.

  • What is the wallpaper switcher app? Im using desktop drapes but it always crashes.

  • @winter666madness it's called webilder. and as you can see from this video, it tried to kill me. :P

  • @thisweekinlinux Thanks! Keep up the great videos!

  • Interesting.

    thanks for the video.

  • @xXUbuntuTutorialXx for my day job, C#, sadly. I know, and have used all of those languages and more though. Python is really my personal favorite.

  • What's your favorite desktop enviroment?

  • @NDSCollector a part of me wants to say gnome 2.xx, another part wants to say gnome 3/gnome shell. I'm using gnome 3/shell on all of my Linux systems right now, if that says anything.

  • @thisweekinlinux What distributions?

  • @miggdrasil I use Arch Linux on my desktop and my laptop, and Fedora 15 on a desktop at work. I was using Ubuntu 11.04 with Gnome 3 for a little while, but I just prefer Arch (just my preference)

  • If you are to believe kernel developers, bugs reported to Ubuntu rarely get upstream. To me this is really a problem for me. Last year, for example, there was a bug with sshfs that instead of saving changes to file removed file contents completely. It took a looong time to get that one fixed. We'll see if DEX is just a marketing stunt or it will work. :)

  • @TheMeanEYE hopefully DEX does work indeed... would be very nice for the rest of the debian-based distros. Of course it would be nice if non-Debian specific patches were pushed upstream to non-Debian distros as well...

  • @thisweekinlinux I doubt DEX will work. To me it smells like a marketing stunt. If I remember correctly, there was already a project of that kind before and it didn't work.

  • ive noticed with 11.04 that some icons do not stay on the taskbar, like skype, the skype icon does not show up and neither does akregate the rss reader..so im not sure if thats just me or there is actually a bug with the taskbar

  • @vipor29 I think there are still some issues with the system tray in 11.04 that they're working out, but I thought I read somewhere that the newest version of Skype worked with the system tray now... are you on an old version perhaps?

  • @thisweekinlinux maybe ill put the new beta up and see if that helps

  • the official 'native' teamviewer for linux is just the windows binary packaged with a standalone wine.

    So it always uses wine...

    but works great!

  • @Keneo1 that's what I thought, and as long as it works, awesome. Would be nice if there were a native binary though.

  • the Memenu is NOT the Messaging menu , the Memnu shows your status (online, busy, offline, etc) ,The Messaging menu shows your IM, Evolution, Thunderbird, Emesene etc.

  • @kaisergreymon99 oops, my mistake. I have a hard time keeping the Ubuntu-specific menus straight, since I don't use it that regularly. Thanks!

  • Can we dual-boot it with windows?

  • @Flaviochief42 sure!

  • @Flaviochief42 absolutely!

  • Great vid. The is THE source for Linux. I figured out what my Java problem was for my Ubuntu 10.10. I need "The Java Plugin 6" and it works just great...but this...looks so complete. Can I make it black and green? hehe

  • @analyzingfunny I think you can make it whatever you like. :) It's gnome 2.32, so it's very customizable.

  • wait...Ubuntu has a global menu in Ubuntu? How do I turn it on?

  • @analyzingfunny lol, in 11.04 it's on by default, it's just a bit wonky. if you run an app, it shows up when you mouse over the top panel in a certain place. that's why I'd prefer this menu, the Ubuntu one is just awkward.

  • Man I wish the Ubuntu 11.04 universal menu would just stay there. It's so stupid the way you can't know if it's got what you want until you go there. I wish they would just wise up and do it properly.

  • That was a little creepy, the wallpaper change...

Great review. This looks like not a bad alternative to Ubuntu if you don't like Unity. Still, Gnome 2 won't be developed forever, but hopefully Unity and Gnome 3 will have improved by then.

  • @AngryRantingNerd a little creepy? I honestly stopped (about 30 seconds of silence) when it happened, expecting something to jump out at me.

  • @thisweekinlinux Holy crap.

  • It's free right?

Because i want to try it

  • @Flaviochief42 completely free.

  • i know free-bsd is no real linux, but have you ever done a review on it?

  • @Shockszzbyyous I haven't. it's been a long time since I've used any BSD, but I've had people ask here quite a few times. it's just not Linux, so I haven't been in a hurry to review it on a Linux channel.

  • i thought you said no more reviews of ubuntu derivatives. :) anyway, even so you can keep it interesting. i might even try this one. :)

  • @bamdadkhan I do generally avoid them, but when one is on distrowatch, and climbing the charts over there, and the developer is nice enough to stop by and ask me in person, and tell me what's different about it, etc. I'll consider it. :)

  • Looks pretty good, I've got to try this! Nice review jord.

  • i got almost the same conky setup :)) LOL

  • Liked this vid after 0:02 :p

  • @Rubdos woohoo!

  • Love the videos!

  • Lol...Skype is built in. Funny since Skype is now owned by MicroSoft, the enemy of Linux.

  • @ericfontainejazz ikr lmao.

  • imo ubuntu is the best, everything works properly and theres no name inconsistencies. mint 11 and 10 are just plain ugly now

  • Nice looking distro, though I too am more minimalist and just stick to arch these days, but I imagine it must be popular amongst other people who like getting all the apps in the one install

  • @ElderSnake90 it's apparently a lot more popular than I thought it was.

  • Using it right now on a box. Very nice. Will keep on drive and recommend to family or friends wiling to give Ubuntu a try. Love that it has OpenShot installed.

  • @BuddhaCharlie wats openshot?

  • I will never understand ubuntu derivatives. If I am versed enough in linux to be aware of an ubuntu derivative then I'm versed enough in linux to install apps in ubuntu.

  • @whatnameisavailablee Ubuntu is crap and getting worse, derivatives stays user friendly and usualy works better than ubuntu, ubuntu is great distribution, but because of their dependency tree and mac way i never been interested in Ubuntu at all... Also i think linux newbies chooses derivatives because of look and options, not a ubuntu which is featureless and with a total crap look.

  • @whatnameisavailablee I will never understand debian derivatives :)

  • @johonunu commercial support is not an app :-)

  • @johonunu I dont understand any distribution, aside from Arch ;)

  • @johonunu hahaha point well made, buuuuuut I feel Ubuntu is substantially different enough from Debian to warrant it. Correct me if I'm wrong (I might actually be wrong, I'm only a novice user) but Ubuntu differs in much more than just simply packages, but with added drivers and what not.

  • @whatnameisavailablee hahaha it was a joke ;) I myself use Kubuntu and Arch :D hahahaha Because I am disappointed with latest Ubuntu and their Unity interface :(

  • @johonunu not to worry I took it as a joke :) And yeah... I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 Classic mode... But.. crossing my fingers for 11.10 :)

  • @whatnameisavailablee I'm of the impression that if someone wants to package up a bunch of stuff on top of Ubuntu, it should really be a metapackage, so you install Ubuntu normally, then run "sudo apt-get install pinguyos" or something to that effect, after adding a PPA. But that's just my opinion. There are definitely people that like the respins, otherwise they wouldn't exist.

  • @whatnameisavailablee 1: There could be MANY applications that you have no clue exist.

2: First time linux users might want to install this or a more "complete" albeit a little bloated.

3: Themes and the overall feel of an interface can be difficult to set up WELL, if someone has set up a interface that you like why not use it.

4: What if you were going to install most of these apps anyways? Why not get them pre-installed.

  • @joguSD I can understand those points but, I still wouldn't make a derivative but instead what @thisweekinlinux suggested but creating a metapackage instead. Eg. "sudo apt-get install pinguyos"

  • Nice Review!

  • which is better in your opinion: linux mint 11 (when it comes out) or pinguy 11.04? trying to figure out which to choose :)

  • @ipwnrubberduckiesftw well Pinguy OS comes with a lot more applications than you may need. LinuxMint comes with the standart apps - Office, movie player, music player etc...

  • @v1y1 ok thanks for the input :)

  • @ipwnrubberduckiesftw if it were me, I'd be looking at Mint 11, but I prefer a more minimal install. Pinguy is extremely useful if you're unfamiliar with what apps you really want/need, or if you just want a huge smattering of apps all at once. :)

  • @thisweekinlinux and thanks to you too! i think i will be betting mint 11 then.

  • I had the same problem with the install icon and reboot didn't help, but if you log out and back in it goes away.

  • Huh, looks pretty good. I think I might replace all my future Ubuntu installations with Pinguy!

  • Did you run this on your Macbook Pro or your work notebook?

  • @eduardoc nope, this was running in virtualbox on my desktop.

  • Thanks for the awesome review, Jordan! I'm going to try it right now!

Btw, why are you doing reviews so late... at about 11:30 pm?

  • @v1y1 well im watching videos at 11:10PM. lol Xp

  • @v1y1 long days. work all day, family all evening, make videos after I get my son to bed. before shooting this one, I had to install it, test it, shoot it once, fail, reshoot. :P

  • lol the tree wallpaper,WTH.

  • @MrMassivemanmeat that scared the crap outta me, man...

  • @thisweekinlinux Hey man I sent you a friend request. this is my new account. My old one was robertzaccour and I'm guessing you didn't approve yet because I couldn't email you to explain the channel change. I just realized I could have just emailed you from the old account but I'm almost done with this message here actually I am haha. Have a great day.

  • @KnuckleBrawler approved. :)

  • Pinguy looks really good.

  • I know that is kind of off topic, but how does Ubuntu cloud work?

  • @SkyHigh675 I haven't had a chance to try it out yet, so I'm not sure.

  • yarggggg

  • second/segundo!

  • first
