This is probably my favorite piece that Bach wrote. Not my favorite classical piece but in the top 5 for sure. Bach's nº1 cello suite is there too along with Beethoven's moonlight sonata and Toccata and Vivaldi's Winter from The Four Seasons.

Not if it's unaccompanied Bach....the player is allowed to interpret the music however they want. I may not agree with it but that doesn't matter. Bach didn't write dynamics or articulations. It just comes from the edition. I'm playing this on marimba and my interpretation reads entirely different but I still like this performance.

Actually, I really enjoy his phrasing ideas. The first half of this prelude should have a slight improvisational feel similar to Bach's works for keyboard (Rostropovich does this as well), which might be a bit overdone, but he does it consistently. The second half, the fugal section, is impeccably clean and each of the fugue entries are brought out. Overall, I would say this is a great interpretation and performance.
