It goes by many names: magazine clamp, magazine coupler, etc. That one looks like it's actually attached to the rifle, which is rare. There are many different brands, and most attach two magazines together.

Basically, the purpose is to allow for quicker and easier reloads. The idea is that with practice, it's faster to eject a magazine, move your hand over a few millimeters to grab a spare and load that in than to reach down to a pouch on your vest for a new magazine.

Im not sure why people keep comparing the HRT to Special Operations Units. Their is no such thing as a " Better " unit. Im sure a Delta operator can shoot me dead in the head once just as good as a HRT member. The HRT recruits some personnel from SOF. So how can the HRT not be up to par in quality operatives if there roster is filled with SEAL's and SF? Ofcourse Delta is trained at another level because their mission requires it. But the tactics and equipment of the HRT are def on par to SOF.

No matter what your military experience you still must have a 4 year degree with very good grades and be very sharp.

Slots into HRT are extremely competitive.

Bureau has a difficult time finding agents internally to apply for this unit and at the same time staff all their local SWAT team units nation wide. This is due to the skill sets that they tend to look for in their new agents. Such as language, accounting, law, IT, Intelligence. Those abilities make for good investigators, and because the background of these folks is increasingly coming from vocations outside of law enforcement, their tacticle units are suffering.

If u read "Inside Delta Force" by Eric Haney u would know that FBI HRT would never be what it is today if were not for our tier1 units like Delta and SEAL team 6. HRT basically copied the structure and organization of DELTA, and ST6 provided the black arts training in counter terrorism.

The HRT is a Counter-terror team that conducts tactical law enforcement operations.

The SAD is a Paramilitary unit, that supports Foreign Intelligence operations in a covert fashion.

As Aaronmcdcs pointed out. FBI's HRT has US law to abide by and can't just go in and kill everyone (i.e. Frag and Clear). In fact completing a mission without anyone dying is usually the main objective. However, if the situation presents itself, it's clear that they can and will eliminate any threat.

The playbook is the same, regardless of branch of service, or nationality for that matter. The British SAS developed the textbook first, and everyone goes off of that. Dudes in the CIA SAS (Special Activities Staff - look it up, geek) just have access to more funding and cooler gear. FBI HRT is 1 of the best in the world.

my father was SF and completed Ranger school as well just apart of the training. Ranger School is nothing but operation orders and trying to stay awake through out the training. Now my father is apart of the F.HRT unit.  Delta does not even compare to HRT, congrats on completing Ranger School, but anyone can do that, even a nurse.

Delta operator, goes through a one month rigorous selection (harder then HRT). Then he goes through 6 months of OTC.. to the ignorants, that is Operator Training Course. After OTC, he has numerous schools to go to, such as SERE, Scuba, HALO, etc.

One must seriously decide what they want out of a law enforcement career (particularly those with SF,SOF backgrounds) rather than just focusing on getting into a SWAT or HRT unit. There seems to be a mentality with these sorts of people that just because they possess a highly trained background, they can cut it in any of these units. You can have a good Navy SEAL, Ranger, Delta member who is probably just a good agent but not good enough to be HRT
