While I agree that they were rebuttaling an argument with a fallacy, I don't on the idea of science not being another religion or that the scientific community is uniformed and together. Research is as much a tool for the rich as is dogma, and be it Spanish backed popes damning Spanish enemies or antisuffagists using head bumps to explain why women shouldn't vote, and both wouldn't work if people actually took "expert" and "priest" testimony with a grain of salt.
