In fact MechInf is a defensive unit. Its defense value is 6... but their attack value is also 6 I believe. That's the same as a catapult. So that's a bit shabby for your level of technology, and the price of the unit.

You're building mechanized infantry, which are not really tanks. They have attack of 6, which is no better than a catapult. You could build actual tanks, called "armor", with attack of 10, or artillery, with attack of 12 for better combat odds.

Well... mechanized infantry aren't technically tanks, as the word infantry kinda implies. They are just armored vehicles - APCs and the like used to transport troops around, though they do have an assortment of weaponry. Still, in Civ, Armor is proper usual tanks. TO CRUSH ALL.
