OSX is hardly more than a ´colorful design for darwin - wich was based upon the free, open source Os Free-/Open-BSD. Darwin itself was so near to the original Apple even had to release it for free, and as said - OSX is hardly more than a colorful design for it ...

That is also the reason why most Linux/Unix/BSD Commands work under appel's systems
