  • 3:47 epic landing! nice. .(i thought he's gonna land on his butt. .)

  • Fake

  • great show

  • Really cool, John Mooney was the first person to put an engine on a hang glider. He perfected it and called it an ultralight aircraft.

He also did a lot of air shows around the country. Nothing fake about this guy, he is a very talented person and has contributed a lot to the general Avation community and ultralight movement.

    Albert

  • lol this was on tv as a stunt show its all planned out between the pilot the guy with the gun and the show corridnators.

  • Comment removed

  • 185 lbs

  • FAKE!!!!!

  • @RockinSneakers87 wow nothing gets past U

  • lol, good pilot.

  • It looks like a battle scene out of WW0.5 LOL

  • That was epic :D

  • Here's what I thought we'd see! (on youtube), watch?v=XT3DeVEXXYo

  • i thought it was an rc plane lol i saw is feet moving at one point

  • My god Dave put the GUN down ...Dave .....DAVE just wave the red flag.....LMAO

  • so fake, yet so amusing :))

  • very nice show

  • He should have blown the wings off while he was flyin' above a lake or so

  • what? does he have something against ultralights. great vid and great show great landing by the way.

  • wish i could find a easy riser...too much fun..

  • anyone that has to comment on the fact that this is fake, is a dumbass.

of course it is- "lead him a little more"

    LOL

  • REALLY!!!???? You mean to tell me that they didn't have some crazy guy at the airshow shooting parts off an airplane??

Wakeup numbnuts!!! It's part of a SHOW and it's a REAL SHOW as I've seen it myself more than once. NOW go and fire up another bowl of herb and smoke up you brain-dead moron.

YOU ARE AN EXAMPLE OF WHY PEOPLE SHOULDN'T SMOKE DOPE!!

I hope all the kids see your post and take heed.

  • Angry much? And i had to laugh at your ignorance. Do you really believe in that reefer madness crap still? I think it's you who should wake up. There is 0 evidence that Marijuana effects brain cells. In fact, the oil extracted from Marijuana(hash oil) has been proven to cure a great many things. Even cancer!

  • Yup, good luck with that

  • Is that your argument? "Good luck with that". HAHA. Pathetic! Come back and comment when you have something to go on.

  • Great show....Well done sir!

  • I saw this little routine myself, and even though I like airshows, this, I felt was a bad example for kids in the audience.

  • ese es el avion de los pica piedra

  • the airboss should, FAA rule no.49547478384, never shoot at planes ---isnt the FAA in attendance at the back country airshow????? call the cops !!!

  • Haha!!! Call the cops? What are they going to do. I guess they'd have to shoot it down. Thanks for the laugh.

  • It's pretty obvious this is all staged. First off, 4 shotgun shots to the central fuselage and not one hit on the pilot. Two, the commentators are just sitting there running their mouths while someone is supposedly in unexpected mortal peril. Three, you can hear the audience laughing and applauding. Even if that doesn't do it for you there's the fact that the pilot doesn't run or really do anything at all, and nobody runs up to apprehend him, not even the overzealous airboss.

  • its pretty obvious i was kidding -one, there is no FAA rule with that number i made up, two, all plane show attendees follow the tenth commandment, three, the cops are at the donut shop -- i saw similar lives in peril at 6 gun territory in Florida - nice flight !!

  • Man, don't mess play with people's minds like that, you never know where they've been! XD I admit, you got me... Good one!

  • its an airshow, they aren't really shooting...

  • @pudd750

haha FAA rule no.49547478384 xD love it

  • rube entertainment!

  • rubes lol

  • No kidding ultralight, how much does it weigh?

  • 120 lbs apparently

  • all staged

  • v.v'

I really, honest to God HOPE, that all Youtube members know that....

  • where can i get that air plane?

  • pioneerflyer (dot) com/Easyriser (dot) html

  • thank you very much~

  • Oh Man! Very very very funny video.

  • they came georgia same plane same dude with the gun and same routine its pretty funny

  • that's good....

  • I owned one !!!!!! and I'm not talking about the gun, total weight shift! this plane don't weight 150 lb. wish I never sold it, after seeing that!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Me too , I have one easy riser , and I will keep it for the rest of life !!!!!!

  • Anyone who believes this is real must have voted for OBAMA! You tell it;s for FUN!

  • Hoow this is fake you ask? well, when he shoots, no smoke is being shot out of the plane, how can you hit 2 wheels with one bullet, and how can you cut the fuel line without the engine blowing up or going on fire.

  • Of course they aren't using real bullets for an airshow routine. Of course two wheels can't come off in one shot...after all, it's an airshow routine. The Easy Riser (plane in the video) used to never have wheels or an elevator. That's why he was able to land it safely. No CG or anything like that.

  • yes that's right man!

  • You are a grade A idiot

  • cool

  • But then to fly! A dream come true.

  • I haven't read all the comments but as for "fake vs. real" -- It is an airshow comedy act. So the pilot really did modify the Easy Riser to be able to jettison parts. No, no gunfire was involved. It's like the old airshow acts where a farmer from the crowd gets a free ride in a Piper Cub and accidentally takes off alone and does some crazy flying -- it's a joke, the 'farmer' being the airshow pilot, but the flying is a very real demonstration of skill.

  • Thanks for pointing this out. For some reason people get offended when they see something that's clearly rigged...rigged for entertainment that is. People don't see the entertainment.

  • I have one of these aircraft. The first time I ever saw this craft, the love in my eyes shown in the skys(swelling music)OH I NEED YOUR LOVE, I NEED YOUR FLIGHT, PLEASE LET ME FLY WITH YOU. Some day I shall fly away home.

  • fake

  • how do you steer it?

  • There's rudders at the end and between the wings. When he wants to turn, one of the rudders will deploy. The rudders are connected to a control stick in the cockpit and when you want to turn, you move the stick. If you look carefully, you can watch the rudders deploy before a turn in this video.

  • it is not real :(

  • Sorry, but this has actually happened. Do a search for John Moody and you will discover that he's the Easy Riser guy and that he used to do airshows with one. People credit him for starting the ultralight movement. Awesome guy!

  • but on shoting with real bullets ;)

  • yeah but its impossible to take out both of the back wheels with 1 shot and the clip of the guy shooting is the same both times.

  • I think nizoladdd means it was staged. It clearly was.

  • Heck of a pilot, under fire no less!

  • lol cool

  • That was good and love the LANDING!

  • Great comedy! Great ultralight!

  • yabba dabba dooo

  • That was funny!!!! lol

    Great Comedy Act done well.

  • it was all an act

  • Hey that was an awesome video. My Father wants to know what kind of Ultralight plane that is? He has just bought one last fall that needs some TLC.

  • It's an Easy Riser!

  • I wonder if the title of the video or the announcer's comments might be a clue?

  • HOLY COW THAT WAS LAME!

  • im missing something, why was he shot out of the sky?

  • For petes sake! 'hartnell114' its staged to be a comedy act. He wasn't really shot out of the sky.

  • ah haha...very good acting!

  • I hate airshow commentators.

  • Makes it fun for the simple folks. Being as they don't get out much.

  • Absolutely Chap! I'm not sure how bad it is over in Canada, but flying Cessnas and Pipers over here is terribly expensive for the average joe. In Europe it's two to three times worse. Most of this country is terribly poor and if you just fly to have fun, then why do you have to fly a Cessna or Piper (my two examples)? An ultralight is even more fun! You nailed it right on the head! Why do you have to fly at 140 knots? The beauty of it is that you don't!

  • Do people actually fall for this? lol

  • People as in the people at the airshow? No, they understand this is just entertainment. People watching this video? Mostly no, yet a minority actually believe it's real. In the end, it's entertainment and weather they understand what it is or not doesn't really matter. It is very obvious, I agree, yet there are plenty of people out there that will not understand it (Ex: young kids and old grandmas).

  • lol, i haven't got much clue about planes but... that was pretty cool xD :P

  • it would have been funny if his remains of the front landing gear caught the ground and flipped him

  • That's an EXCELENT airshow idea. You could probably sell that idea, but hurry before I use it.

  • It would've been cooler if he spewed smoke after the engine got "shot out" but very good show nonetheless!

  • I can't believe people thought this was real. This is a typical airshow skit with typical cornball airshow announcer banter. Get a clue people.

  • Yeah and it was great.

  • And that's why I love airshows.

  • Fantastic Pilot!

  • holy shit. how did do that.. crazy..

  • An aircraft doesn't need wheels, an engine, or a tail in order to fly. For example: anyone with most of their limbs attached can fly and land a hang glider. Even someone with no legs can fly a hang glider if you attach wheels to it.

  • it's just a bit of fun...if the undercarriage was shot, it wouldn't simply drop straight down....

    good fun though!!!

    john...

  • AWESOME !!!!! that feet landing gave me some ideas!

  • That was great!

People are stupid if they think ultralights are dangerous!

  • Very true. It's as safe as the pilot makes it. The same goes with general aviation aircraft.

  • that was great

  • Hey guys. Lighten up. It's a bit of entertainment, and a bit of fun.

  • LOL?! fake :p

hard to shoot a moving object, especially a plane

one shot takes out TWO wheels? the commentary is retarded too sooo..

  • Ino. If it was real, the buck shot would have hit the pilot as well. Uber waste of time and aircraft. As for the commentary, well... they're just stupid.

  • Hello,I'm 53 years old & have been wanting to take the proper training & purchase an ultralight for some time now. I just wanted to say after watching this video, that I thought it was great! My hat's off to all involved! The one thing that really scares the hell out of me about it all is that after reading the comments, I realise that these morons that post some of what I read, drive motor vehicles on the same highways as I do!!!!!

  • I know. Isn't that scary!

  • why did they shoot it?

  • They start "shooting at it," because it won't go away and it's interfering with the rest of the airshow. They really are not shooting at it since it's actually part of the airshow.

  • ooooooooo

  • i think it would be awesome to do a fly by shooting in an ultralight lol.

  • lol even IF it wasn't rehersed, why would you keep flying by the guy that's shooting at you?

  • Fake Fake Fake !

Hes shooting blanks, or else the pilot would have been hit. stupid rpg air show :P

  • The applause at the end was FAKE!

    I can tell.

  • its all rehearsed FFS. Its an act

  • And some people think that this is real...even after John lands and the announcers says his name and his title. "Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. John Moody...the father of modern ultralight flying and his places dot com ultralight." It doesn't take a lot of brains to figure out that it's an act, but I guess some people don't have the mental capacity to figure it out.

  • two words. pro.... wrestling....

  • runescaper

  • I can't believe that guy is allowed to shoot at an ultralight. He must have good aim.

  • landing:that takes me way back, just like Taras Kiceniuk in his IcarusII! he designed that, and built it I believe when he was only 16.

  • thanks!very usefull.today it seems theyre using gobs of HP on ultraghts to compensate for inefficient design.

  • is it really true Moody flew his IcarusII on only 10HP?

  • It's true! Actually 11 HP, but close enough. Now he's using a 16HP Hirth engine. There are lots of ultralights that can run on low powered engines (unless you're a heavy person). For example, the Skypup can fly with a 15 hp engine.

  • he's shooting blanks..... if the pilot wasn't informed about getting "shot" why would he keep coming back?

  • so fake..... if it were real when he shot the first landing gear the pliot would have been shot.... everything just fell off.... FAKED!!!!!!!

  • FAKED ???? really , i thought they where really shooting at a plane in front of an airshow crowd !!!! wow really had me going.

    tool

  • No way this is scripted. It is very common to fly at someone who is aiming a gun at you.

  • why do you guys always have to shoot at something!?

  • guys. they arent trying to make it look real. its just part of the show. the pilot was showin off his sweet landing skills

  • Thank you for posting this, finally. Ultralights are just meant for a good time, and this was pretty fun to watch. Wish I was there.

  • lol its obviosly skripted

  • Nice, the guy knocks off two wheels simultaneously with one bullet! :-D

  • I know...it was a MIRACLE shot! It also doesn't help that you can see John pull the lever that drops the wheels. Most people don't notice that, so I guess he can get away with it.

  • yeah...that was script, thing is, is that they made it TOO obvious..=/ tis a shame, could have been cool if it seemed real

  • lmfao nice!

  • nicely done lol

  • good clean fun!

  • That is so great!

  • now THAT was a good watch

sussex is pretty close to me.

  • Well done!!

  • nice show

  • Beautiful bit of flying! Very nice!

  • staged.

  • Is it really? I seriously thought this was real! Dang.

  • Mother Fucker!

  • One of the greatest show ever!

  • I must agree. Much different from the other aerobatic flights.

  • hahaha......well done,good skills.

  • I thought this was real to start with, but the two wheels falling off at the same time first gave it away for me, lol, great vid though 10/10!

  • was this a setup?

  • Yes

  • "it was pretty cool to see him fly without an elevator"

It never had an elevator, as a derivative of the Icarus hang glider, pitch is by weight shift, all that functioned as was a Horizonatal Stab, not an elevator.

I fly a Litespeed 4 hang glider, I don't need no stinking elevator.

  • A good laugh. THanks for the post.

  • No problem. That's for the nice words.

  • Parece uma brincadeira mas tem muita tecnica ai. Muito legal.

  • Ultralight aircraft are as safe as the pilot allows them to be. Flying one is a great thrill, and very basic. As far as the homosexual thing, it has been my experience in life that the only people who think or worry about homosexuals, are other homosexuals. Personally, I am not qualified nor do I have a right to judge other people, ,or what they do. What makes you think you are? That is a rethorical question. Look it up.

  • Great reply to slap1328. I have been saying the same thing to the likes of him for years.

    Blue Skies!!

  • Menace to our airspace? You're a menace to intelligence.

  • Federal Aviation Regulations Part 103 states a powered ultralight must : Weigh less than 254 pounds empty, a fuel capacity not exceeding 5 U5. gallons, can't go faster than 55 knots (63 mph), and must stall at 24 knots (27 mph) or slower with the power off. Wow. What a menace! How about a 747 flying directly overhead your house every hour? that's a menace!

  • LOL talk about redundancy and battle damage sustainability - this thing's tougher than a Warthog! Somebody call DoD, they need some of these.

  • this was part of the airshow you fools

i was there, it was pretty cool to see him fly without an elevator

  • Ultralights have came a long way since the early 80s. Today, designs are much safer, engines are more reliable and ever since the 2-seat training exemption came along, training is a standard. We now also have BRS parachutes that work very well. Today, ultralights are probably the safest form of aviation out there, which provides pilots with recreational freedom. Perhaps you would re-consider your thoughts.

  • Ultralights are clearly the homosexuals answer to flying.

  • Go stick yer dick in a vice and an M-80 up yer ass, slapcrap1328, fucker...

  • Ummm...no thanks. Clearly by that defensive response you are no homosexual. Not that there is anything wron with that.

  • The original Icarus hang glider became the Easy Riser ultralight with the addition of an engine sometime back in the late 1970's. Later, wheels were added once the FAA dropped the foot launch requirement, and the tail was added due to the planes distressing tendency to tumble under some conditions... but it's still quite flyable in the original configuration, as John Moody demonstrates.

  • We suffered the same famous tumble John Moody did at '76 or '77 at EAA. Learned a power-on stall make it rotate/tumble around the pitch axis because of the high thrust line. Fortunately, the EZR was pretty autostable in pitch, and it got rightside up killing power before we ran out of altitude completely. Since I've logged a couple thousand very fun and safe hours in Quicksilvers. I don't feel any more safe in the Cessnas I also fly.

  • nice stunts,

  • Was that planned? Are you an idiot. Of course it was planned. How does a shotgun pull off shooting a spread shot and knocking off two wheels on one shot? Those were all blanks and the pieces were meant to fall off.

  • was tht planned???

  • WOW how can u land that!
