  • OH MY GOD SOOOOOOO Proud to be Canadian! They have been the great Canadian Band for many years. Listen to the lyrics and know that they've paid their dues, delighted 100s of thousands from pubs to stadiums. When I talk to my Bolivian wife about Canada, they are always part of the soundtrack.

  • The best song... ever

  • Heard this in a club in Canada in 96, nearly as bad as the chick i pulled!!!!

  • Just found this song... St. Pattys Day here I come!

  • there band should be called spirit of the north

  • wow how epic is this

  • I had no idea. I've been singing this song since I was a kid. This song has literally been my family's theme song for as long as I remember, and I just now learn that they're Canadian. I'd always assumed they were English or something.

  • you clearly are not a true canadiaan u think great big sea is from australiaa too right???

  • Went on a roadtrip from Ottawa to Nfld. Was so upset we didnt hear it once. We were at 3 to 4 bars everynight and even asked for it in Nfld, where they hadnt heard of it. In Ottawa this song is played AT LEAST once a night anywhere booze is sold. Even the "top 40" clubs.

  • @Kilerchuk

Especially at some of the southern bank street parts, Toucan, Patty's I'm lookin' at you.

  • @Kilerchuk Very Odd. You'd probably most likely hear it in someone's basement or shed with a bunch of guitars & whatnot in Newfoundland if you don't hear it in a pub. BUT.... Spirit of The West is not a Newf band. Even though the sound is there, doesn't mean it's Newf or Irish. I listen to & play this on my guitar at least once a day though. Not cause I'm a Newf, just cause it's a wicked friggin tune.

  • TDOT

  • I had no idea that there was even a video for this song. Best drinking song EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Malakian720 go PEI haha

  • The 20 people who disliked aren't at their best.

  • @Canucks4us I'm never "at my best" and I love this.

  • @Canucks4us that would mean we'd have to excuse them ;)

  • @Canucks4us either that or they are so drunk they missed the like button lol

  • @Canucks4us wouldn't it be that they are at their best? Because the song says that he's not at his best. So it would be 2000 people not at their best.

  • A Canadian anthem.

  • I was playing music in blarney castle and a canadian lady called cindy gave me this link and shes right! i really enjoy it! :D Class bai!! :) heheh!! :)

  • 3:18 on is absolutely sublime. :)

  • Wow there is a point in Canadian people. Well 4 Canadians anyway. Awesome tune, heard it for the first time last night getting hammered.

  • Wise words :D já n ouvia isto a algum tempinho :DD It still has that awesomeness :)

  • yeah, eh!

  • who fucking cares what country they are from? The music is awesome. Them being Canadian has nothing to do with anything.

  • @1RodeToAsaBay True... but they are Canadian

  • @1RodeToAsaBay Its called being proud of your heritage. If they were American, all these little american childrens would be screaming "Yeah! Go America!" or something derivitive of the same. Dont play it down like its nothing because this is the exact genre of music inspired by history and heritage. They are Canadian, As are We, and We are Proud of it. Get use to it B'y ;D

  • @JeremyHill89

    hell ya CANADA! FUKINEH!

  • it's weird. a band from vancouver doing a maritime/east coast song-where songs are influenced from scotland/ireland..it really is a twice removed brilliant, bastard of a song. guess a fever caught them the same way it did stan rogers at one point. being from nova scotia, i can't understand why this song came from the west. i've always had a feeling that this is not their song! they found it in some pirate chest, or something...

  • @blackfrancis55

I hope that more pirate chests like that can be found.

  • @blackfrancis55 Geoffrey Kelly (the one who plays the flute as well as singing) was born in Scotland, so I would guess that they all caught the fever from him - lol!

  • hilarious not a good song but funny thumbs up XD

  • i love how it sounds irish

  • Hell ya they are Canadian. From my home city, Vancouver. Going to see them on Saturday, July 24th at 8:00PM as part of ShoreFest. Free for anyone living in Vancouver at the Fireworks at English Bay.

  • i love canada im 110% canadian no other bakround

  • @coolbot113 really? no other background? well, isn't that something..

  • Canada! Home of spirit in a bottle!

  • Of course they are Canadian. They're singing about drinking in a happy-go-lucky beat and they fuckign rocked it.

  • kills me to see this only has about 400 000 views, but lil wayne and fucking justin bieber have millions,

THATS how i know 2012 is coming

  • @uberdeater i wish i could vote up more than once

  • @uberdeater BAHHH HAHAHA, cheers

  • im seeing them live tonight, cheers!

  • tin whistle

  • im sorry, canadians have more spirit then anywhere else if you ask me :)

  • @CeilsRoxUrSox we do.

  • damn right they are!!!!!!!!

  • every Canadian knows the lyrics by heart

  • @jasperminer Amen to that! this was my song when I was in ireland after a month of the "vacation" I was ready to go home for a rest haha

  • CANADA FUCKIN RULES!!!

  • This could qualify for our anthem if the one we already have were not so awesome.

  • What instrument is the one on that crazy solo?! What kind of flute i mean?

  • @Galodude it was I believe flute/picilo meybay a oboe, it was an awesome solo

  • @MiniMunchMoron It's not a piccolo or an oboe (piccolos are much smaller and have a higher pitch and oboes look more like a clarinet with a reed instead of a mouthpiece).

I think it might be an alto flute. Regardless, like you said, it's an awesome solo!

  • @somegalfromcan exactly its a Tin Whistle

  • Awesome tune by some neighbors to the north. It makes me want to drink some malted barley beverages right now!!!

  • i never saw them live and they didnt play this one... :)

  • this song makes me sooo proud to be CANADIAN!!! EH??

  • Only a Canadian band would dream up something like this.

  • @AllRequired Well Drop kick Murphies think of some of the stuff and they are from Boston. But they are both kick ass bands!

  • 100% Canadian!!!!

  • That is by far the most badass fluting I have ever heard D:

  • This song isn't canadian i saw this band in Dublin . . . . .their home town

  • You better check your facts, they are Canadian.

  • @kurdtss

indeed they are. still trying to figur eout why that matters

  • @1RodeToAsaBay 1. because alot of people think their from ireland and 2. its bc Canadains are ftw eh?

  • they're Canadian!!!

  • @lambchopIRA "The band began in 1983 as a Vancouver-based folk trio called Evesdropper, consisting of John Mann, Geoffrey Kelly and J. Knutson. They soon changed their name to Spirit of the West" Geoffrey Kelly is Scottish but the band itself is Canadian

  • and i saw them in Calgary their (sort of ) home town. Although one of them is Scottish none are Irish.

    Canadian.

  • you stupid? this band is canadian...definition of canada in this song

  • arnt these guys from Vancouver?
