@vinmaster25 You don't need college or classes for ANYTHING. This is the mentality that is wrong in modern times. Get a book and some junk and start building. Once you figure one thing out, move on to the next. After a couple years you'd have a competitive advantage over all the other people who think they can't do anything until college. Middle school kids can build things just as easily as anyone else.

Not real--first, there are no motors in a television set, second, his "plans" on the chalkboard are just a drawing of the completed robot--not any type of schematic he's workling off of, and third, he can afford a computer and internet but uses masking tape to hold his "homemade" robot together? Dear doubters: Which part of a robot can't be found inside a TV?

@Innomen Um... How about motors, a AA battery pack, those perfectly molded black/silver plastic feet, gears, servos, unprogrammed microcontrollers, etc. Anyone who thinks there's even a remote possibility he made this himself out of old TV parts has obviously never built a robot.

I mean, seriously look at the diagram on the blackboard! Why would he draw a picture of the robot without any details as to the inner workings. No equations, no electrical data.

TVs with VCRs built in are jam packed with moving parts. (gears, servos, motors, etc)

As for the feet they could be gaudy decorative pieces, or he could have molded them himself.

A micro-controller is just a tiny CPU, programmable ones are found in universal remotes etc.

The diagram could have been used to explain it to laymen, or he drew it up on the advice of people filming him to make the room look more "techy".

I think the doubters are just prejudiced and ethnocentric.

@Innomen Sounds reasonable. I'm sure that he just went on to the internet after finding all these TVs to look up all the datasheets for the components he was using, then spent $50 or so on a programmer for the microcontroller. After that, he hooked everything up to his laptop to debug.

@showlottathings Say that to me i have a degree in robotics from the ''Kungliga Tekniska högskolan'' Sweden and i have been working with the ESA for the past 3 years...and on my 2nd year we had to build a robot from all sorts of scraps, just like this dude. Obviously due to right funding we eventually got better resources to build our final product, but give him his due he deserves it. You'll be surprised to see the things used to make robots..i think your doubt comes from your inner prejudice.

This kid is a genius. His robot is obviously an off the shelf RC toy robot covered with some cardboard/tape, but he gets promoted as "raising inspiration". Taking credit for other people's work is hardly "inspiring".

Note how they edited the video so you can't get a good look at how the robot was built. TV parts? ROFL.
