@Gregkal123 my best spot to find goodies are forums and wreckers sometimes have some rear stuff to. just google your engine and town then read and read and you might find a bargain. should of had BMW's 3.2 i6 from M3 here instead of that lame TOYOTA van engine . It would of been the fastest thing around. If m3 gets from 0-60 in 4.6s then this thing with half the weigh will do it in 3.0.
Nice engine but heavier, longer and probably fairly tall with the VANOS on top so space would be tight in the svelt Striker chassis. 50:50 weight distribution would be upset as well so cheers for the comment but I'll stick to my "van engine" all the same!
@bimbleuk EXCELLENT reply bimbleuk! Only real enthusiasts knows how good the 4age silvertop is out of the box... I can only imagine what that might feel like with that SC on it!! Very nice car man!!
@WarlDogg yup... stronger Crank and striffer Rods. The Black top gets it´s 5 extra hp because of lightening of these parts and because it uses MAP instead of MAFS and also because it has 45mm throttle bodies instead of 42mm Throttle bodies that are found on the silvertop.
They are BOTH, excellent engines but, I would choose the ST over the BT just because of the better internals. You can always MAP a ST if you like N/A engines...
@sinner2208 thought that was the case, is the valve lift ,cam duro the same ect, compression? maybe silver block with black top or is that a bad combo? 4 now ill stick to my red top and and unknown 4agze i picked up for a bargain. ps does snaped timming belt follow through and damage the head on 4a engines?
@WarlDogg The cams are exactly the same although they are not interchangeable. The difference in the BT and the ST head is that on the ST, the combustion chamber has the shape of a pentagon with rounded peaks. The BT´s combustion chamber is round all the way. It doesn´t have the shape of the valves position. You can use the BT pistons in the ST and have a small bump upin compression when used with a trd head gasket. I did it in mine and had good results. About the belt, check it!
@WarlDogg I don´t think there might have been any damage in the gze. The pistons are not high at all so the valves are probably ok. Anyways, there is something you can do with those pistons and the ST although I believe you have to ¨notch¨ the pistons in order for the vales not to hit. Not a 100% on that but i recomend you take a look at club4ag dot com ; They have the BEST info about the 4age in all its variants. Check out their reference section. Good luck and keep revin it!!
@WarlDogg All three 20V engines have the same part number for the crank, so only the rods are stronger internally. Which are cheap to change. Otherwise they are strong as each other.
quite impressive there, how big a throttle body/restrictor ring are you running with that charger unit?
have you seen the Lynx 306 gti6 kits? same charger on a 2.0 engine, restricted and on 10.8-1 they make about 250 bhp and 220 lbs, unrestricted and low comp they run over 400 with the same standard 167 bhp cams and head! a nicely linear delivery that suits a fwd, or a light RWD one like this :)
I didn't use an inlet restrictor as I felt the low end torque was already sufficient. The tuner that helped me was doing a Pug at the same time and they do indeed respond well to the Rotrex.
As for the throttle body it has 4 x 45mm individual throttles just as they come from Toyota. Plenty of flow potential.
There's a dyno plot at the end of the vid but for refernece ~270BHP and 195lbs ft of torque. Due to how the Rotrex works those figures are at redline.
Man thats amazing! is there any lag with the Rotrex S/C ? I'm really interested in putting either a Rotrex or Vortech S/C or a Turbo Charger on my 4age 20v BlackTop. I already got the low comp 4agze pistons (8.0:1 Ratio) Got the gze rods with ARP rod bolts. All i need now is the intake plumbing and either a Header or turbo manifold depends on which way i wanna go. Was it worth the price for the rotrex? or do u think a turbo could have done better?
Not lag in the same sense as a turbocharger. The Rotrex is centrifugal which means boost climbs as RPM increases as its directly connected to the crank. You can play with pulley sizes and inlet restrictors to shape the torque curve. As my Striker weighed 550 kgs I was not interested in a lot of bottom end torque as it didn't have the grip to use it anyway.
Hi I believe I did as we were just mapping the new engine configuration. Now running on low compression pistons and will turn up the wick sometime in 2009 to see what it produces!
Thanks for the comment anyway but I stopped revving the car at 7000RPM as I ran out nerve. The engine has a stock bottom end afterall with 10.5:1 CR and cast pistons. Stage II will be to rev to the full 8500RPM but I may change the pistons as a safety measure! Not bad for an engine designed over 25 years a go.
PS We use the Hayabusa in a Radical Clubsport so I do appreciate the engines abilites. Also the cost to pepare and run one in a GT championship!
No a Hyabusa is a Suzuki bike engine of 1300cc capacity. Something like 170BHP standard so very fast in a bike chassis. Often modified up to 1650cc and 250+BHP in race car chassis.
Oh...my apologies, I thought that engine sounded like prototype racing 20v 4AG engine. I don't know much about bike engines. I only car engines and etc. O.o
Look at the tuner just smiling. He's loving that shit. =D 267 hp is not a lot by any means, especially nowadays, but it is for that engine. That is impressive, and more than enough to scare the pants off someone not used to boost, and more than enough to put a smile on your face, even if you're used to higher horsepower. Congratulations and be careful on it. =)
its not the HP that counts when the car weighs nothing, i got taken out in a 1600 4age striker slightly fettled. 0-60 took near as makes no difference to 4 seconds!
You're both absolutely right as its not how much you have but what you can put down that matters. I had to change the diff to slow the car as I just kept on hitting the limiter in 5th too quickly!
Please tell me how I can get that supercharger, I have a 20v Blacktop in a 93 Celica and I'm trying to turn it into a Time Attack car. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you
Hi, yes intentionally kept as stock as possible for a possible bolt on kit for other similar Striker's. I did use an exhaust cam as the stock is a little short on lift. Inlet temps are very low and no issues with detonation at all on 98 RON fuel.
what is the best website to buy performance parts from?

how much boost pressure is that kit running
Vevil85 4 years ago
Peak boost is 1 bar (14 PSI) at 7200RPM. Standrard compression so we limited the engine RPM at that point.

267hp @ 7269rpm

do you have a dyno with pump gas? like 93 octane?
sliva001 4 years ago
I'm using Shell V-Max which replaced V-Power. V-Power was rated at 90-93 octane using the RON+MON/2 system in the US. So that is on premium pump gas.
