Omg you two beneath me arguing is makin me laf :D yes u shud clip the birds bloody wings there delicate and cud crash into sumthing and break there neck?!!!
@thailandcrab We have to. Our house is mostly windows and would hate to have any of our birds get startled for some reason and fly into one and get a broken neck. It is for their safety.
@thailandcrab Sooo...are you saying I should not clip their wings and risk them flying into windows which they can not see and break their necks? They can see predators in the wild. They can see trees in the wild. They can NOT see floor to ceiling glass(75% of our house). Just sayin.
@thailandcrab Funny how you think a human walking into glass is the same as a bird flying full speed into it have having the same result. A human running at the same glass would probabley crash through it and only receive a few bad cuts. But the lower body mass of a macaw would result in a different outcome...broken neck. Learn some physics. Or better yet.. run full speed into a brick wall and see if you don't "emidiatly bracke our neck or blrain or soemthing"...as you say. :)
@thailandcrab unfortunately, birds do die from crashing into windows. cats, dogs, and humans die from it too. at the very least, they get brain concussions. they don't automatically know.
however, as i said...all animals and people will run into windows if they don't learn about them. it isn't a good reason for clipping--clipping is for human convenience, not for bird safety. many more injuries to clipped birds than flighted. but training is needed to avoid flying injuries.
@phoenixstudios22 There's always some idiot out there that thinks they know it all. A simple Google search would show dippty doo that birds cannot see glass and it's the number 1 cause of bird injuries. I think you arguing with this moron is a waste of your time. Obviously Rio and Kona are happy birds, or did they just get back from the psychologists office dealing with that depression Thailandcrab knows all about lol :)
@thailandcrab You should take note that birds aren't built like people. Human's bones have marrow and are thicker, birds have hollow bones so that they can fly. It keeps them light. He does it for the safety of his animals and that's what counts.
@thailandcrab Ok one learn to speak proper english and two, bird aren't the same as humans. I have a bird too and he flies into windows thinking he can get outside. It's not in their mentality to think, oh there might be a window there. You really don't know anything about keeping birds in captivity do you?
@phoenixstudios22 birds can learn about windows. if you wanted to, you could train them to not fly into windows -- it just takes a little time and effort.
the reason birds fly into windows in the wild is because no one shows them the windows and also the sun outside is so bright, they truly can't see the window. but a bird on the inside that has been trained won't fly into it.
if that's the only reason to clip, then don't clip -- train them!!
I have the same cage for my Sun Conures. They're about half the size of Kona and Rio and I'm glad they dont know how to break out. Hahaah. I love Kona and Rio!! -3
wow those are some smart birds i have an african grey but he doesnt really stay in the cage its pretty small more like a cockateil cage so he only sleeps in it i just have a perch for him instead. and that right there is why! lol
great vid. is that a trailer you live in. if so, that's great! it shows how much love we have for our parrots, considering we let them be with us even in a small place! love it!
@phoenixstudios22 haha yep i had a yellow collared mini macaw he also learned how to open his cage, i also tried them small spring clamps but it didnt take him long to figure out how to flick those off either so you could have a challenge on our hands lol
I just LOVE your birds!!! These are fabulous!!! 15 star as far as I am concerned. I just wish you would post more and longer videos. I will NEVER tire looking and laughing at them. You make me WANT one and thus my husband will ultimately hate you for me finding this online....;)
we bought them at the Magnolia Bird Farm in Riverside, Ca. Great place! Most blue and golds go for about $1000 for a hand fed baby. We paid a little more for Kona...Amazing colors. Greenwings run about $1500-1600.
Hey Phoenixstudios22 i love your macaws, i heard that they are cheaper out that way, i seen where you said you was considering the offer of $50 from someone on here, i know they arent that cheap since i assume you were joking lol. but what is the price range out there?
@phoenixstudios22 My Cockatoo would do the same thing. She would open her cage, and then thought it would be fun to open all the other birds cages too.

in the wild do they get wing klipped? there are many predators, trees arent they dangerous to? well,
they survive in that habitat so it could not be more dangeouser thenyour home, so you get what Im saying?et deppressed because of wing klipping and
birds get deppresed because of that, I herd of people who had macows like your wing klipped and
they one night they died! and the owner didnt know nothing,
Im not trying to offend you or so, just saying

we use small sized spring clamps. you can get them at any hardware store. Easy to get off in an emergency.

Blue and golds are easier to breed. Supply side economics....the more you have to sell, cheaper they get.
