  • beautiful

  • the words are FAR more than an average ear can comprehend.Todd has opened himself completely in his self professed personal "failure" to aspire to what God wants of him( in Todd's opinion);then answers his own questions VERY well by including what he feels is God's answer by saying" you're looking in and worshiping all the wrong things.. so get over yourself"...VERY well done.. and very introspective JUST as a real artist is SUPPOSED to be.Nice job Mr. Todd

  • i saw this tour in peekskille,ny.i never heard this song b-4 that night but i immeditatly was drawn in.I'm still drawn in.my fav tod song in years!!!

  • andy partridge should try this song. There are similar vocal stylings here. I can hear Andy singing the chorus in my head.

  • all this genius's songs speak to me in ways that i can totally relate to, he makes music with a meaning, to send a message and some people just listen to music because everyone else does, but HONESTLY this man is AMAZING, this is my fav song too

  • I saw Genisis live back in the day, and me thinks Todd was remembering some Phil Collins stylings here. which is very cool.

  • A beautiful song, musically and how he has the balls to give an outlook of how God may see things. It isn't self indulgent, it is quite the opposite. Some may see it as, How dare you. To me it seems a consideration of another perspective.

  • wow this is so bea-u-ti-ful!! todd is so awesome, he sounds as good live as recorded!! his vocals are awesome and the words to this song...they speak rite at me...eternity, infinity wow amazing stuff!!

  • It's staggering how all these religious people think they can ascribe other peoples talent to their god. Hypocritical, seeing as that god apparently manifest in a book (Bible) that doesn't/can't acknowledge the reality of human sexuality. You religious types usual want gay people burnt.

  • I love the anthologies on this thread. Mr Rudgren is surely a poetic philosopher. Life is a journey that is full of questions that are followed by the answers that each one of us search for based on our reality at the time the question appears to us. Deep insightfulness and patience appears to be a continuous travel into time and the moment utilized.

  • The rhythm is smooth. The lyrics are deep and not everyone is able to comprehend the depth and love that is there. There have always been people that have been ahead of the times. Todd has always been ahead of his time and I and others appreciate him and his gifts. he has been true to himself. God loves that because God is bigger than all we can imagine.

  • yes yes yes yes you are right on!!!! from a woman in the deep south that appreciates the truth!

  • Despite his own beliefs (or lack thereof), Todd Rundgren and his talent are yet further proof of the existence of God.

  • Todd is the consummate artist

  • I completely agree with you. I would figure that he feels blessed with the talent he has (been given). On top of it, he's got soul and expresses it so well in nearly everything he does. That soul...that feeling of love...how can it be explained without believing in something more, no matter what that "more" may be. Todd's music is great because he does talk about love, faith, curiosity, and doubt....and in the end, above all, faith and love of the common man. God bless Todd. Peace out.

  • That's a really offensive and stupid comment, because it's meant as an insult. The fact is, Todd is straight arrow, fathered 3 sons, is married, and has been romantically linked with some of the world's hottest women. But he's not a hater like you, and I'm sure would be unphased by being called a fag. In fact, he'd probably say thank you and give you a big kiss.

  • I agree with dracsspago's comment way below. Hearing that note at 2.00...it's even noticing little moments like that that make being a music and Todd fan extra special.

  • I Love this song! Todd you are truly a master of your craft.

  • Liars is best record since 2nd wind.

I wish the folks in the audience would clam-up a bit though

  • 'Liars' has magical moments all over it, this song is one of the finest,SO looking forward to seeing The Master live in London, thanx for posting!

  • Ethanquest,

Well, you are either gay or stupid on some low-browed sarcastic level. Either way, let me be the first to say - on a PC level, there's nothing inherently wrong with either malady. You are truly a modern patriot in either case. Brian Grace

  • This is one of the greatest songs of the 21st Century! Check out the remarkable studio version on Todd's "Liars" album. Deep, thoughtful and beautiful. My only issue - why did it take so long for Todd to finally realize there is no god?

  • "I knew I was running, running to something, into the arms of my God."

  • "I don't practice any formal sort of religion but.....I'm very comfortable with a lot of Buddhist philosophy mostly because it doesn't dwell on questions about the personality of the creator as so many religions do....So when people ask me if I'm an atheist I say no, I just don't think we can understand the nature of what's at the bottom of all existence. It doesn't hurt us to think about it but when you become absolutely sure that you know, you're about as far away as you can possibly get."

  • WOW,man boobs!

  • its okay honey, when YOU grow up, you'll have them too

  • It's a pity he's dressed like a cheap hooker.

  • so, what are you wearing?

  • the concert is in Scotland - now do you get it?

  • The fucking rock n roll hall of fame is a joke! Since when has rock been about a hall of fame and corporate recognition who cares! not the real spirit of it any way. thanks for the post.

  • It's a total joke. Mike Scott and the Waterboys aren't in it either.

  • god that was a great tour ... really loved the Liars.

HOB in NOLA was a great venue ... the floor was vibrating.

Todd & freinds are going to be there again Dec. 5, 2007

  • Sans doute l'un des textes les plus aboutis sur la relation homme/divin étudiée depuis longtemps par TR. Nouveau tissu musical, travail d'orfèvre aux manettes, le wizard signe un cd/dvd indispensable.

  • D'accord

  • I love this CD

I can't believe those assholes in the audience that talk during the performance, you can hear them in the background. Shut up

  • nonnikit,

Unfortunately, just as it is in life, for too many people, everything said and done, is about THEM, so they talk, until they hear a song they like, and the rest of us are just wallpaper, and other decorations, for their amusement.

    I love the CD also.

  • Absolutely correct. A brill performance and they have to open their ignorant gobs. Antisocial, self-excreting amoeba brains.

  • its cause they're stupid and don't know what its all about, just be thankful, you're not them and screw the top 40 shits

  • I was In Cleveland also that night..prince was playing in town that night.BUT I'ma huge Todd fan bought tickets outside...so glad I did Great show

  • I have seen this tour in Cleveland, Oh. It was unbelievable, and of course there were some jerks in the audience as well that needed to get over theirselves. Todd is a true talent, love this cd.

  • My favorite TR song! His voice is still incredible. Listen to him hit that note just perfect at 02:00. I think TR is THE most vital artist today. To call him "Genius" is just a drop in the ocean.

  • Saw this show at the House of Blues in Las Vegas 9/04. Great sound. Nobody yapping. Todd never disappoints. I paid $35 for 4th row seats...Next nite Aretha Franklin... $185 same seats...Todd has always been more bang for the dollar!

  • You will KILL in my name and heaven know what else. Every time I hear it it gives me the chills. I got the DVD and its worth the money.

  • I have the lyrics posted on my door of my fefigerator.

My dad comes in my apartment and reads it.lol

  • I've been fan of TR for a long time. I find it so appropiate that as Todd was singing this great song about people getting over themselves they were oblivious/ignorant as they talked over the performance. People! get over yourselves... and let the rest of us enjoy one of the best talents we have.

  • I arrived back home in Glasgow the day after this gig so one again I missed him. I seem to have a knack for that as I once hitched hiked from Glasgow to London in the middle of winter to see him only to arrive at the theatre anf find he'd cancelled. Did see Utopia at Knebworth in 1979 on the same bill as Led Zepellin.

This Liars Album is his bbest for years, I have it on my MP3 player and listen to it often.

    Todd is Godd

  • I saw this song played live in at Freebird's in Jacksonville Beach FL. It certainly commanded the audiences undivided attention.

  • the hall of fame is beneath him-hes much too cool for it-the beatles probably arent even in it-haha

  • I only have one thing to say to the naysayers about the vid

    Get Over yourself

People who have the Liars album understand that statment

P.S. Todd Rocks Liars royal oak MI and Sandusky OH

  • This is stunning beyond belief....however, I'd like to know why the audience chatterers aren't removed immediately....had I been there, I think I'd have ended up with legal issues regarding assault on the unworthies in attendence!!

  • Thank you for saying it. Removing the audience would have been too nice if I had paid to see the show and had to hear all that in my ear !!

Even with so much background chatter , it was still a stunning presentation.. and I usually only like him with his guitar strapped on ( being a guitarist myself).

  • I saw this gig at The Egg in Albany, NY (the place where they filmed the DVD of the tour). There was no chattering. People who talk during live music performances should go drink somewhere else (yes, they're often plastered). I've seen Todd 10 times or so. It was the best (Todd show, or live rock show) ever. Ihadn't heard the studio album yet at that point, so it was so fresh and absorbing.

  • I was at this gig. Was an excellent concert. Even Todd and the band were surpised about how well they were received.

  • Rundgren should have been in the Rock&Roll Hall of Fame years ago, and they better get him in there soon.

Not that he respects the award all that much, but because people need to hear his tremendous body of work.

  • Glasgow, Scotland. You know...kilts.

  • Oh.. the man breasts are pretty obvious too. Maybe thats why the dress?!

  • It could be worse,,where's his electric banana nowadays?

  • You should see him this year--he looks fantastic.

  • As always, rundrenfan's my fave! Thanks for this post! Man, Todd rocks!

  • Todd is God and God said....

  • Not an encore, but near the end of the set. Just prior to "Liar" if memory serves. Get the DVD Liars Live... worth it.

  • Looks like an encore. Anyone know? Great tune.

  • oh shit!!!! does it get any better than this?? and godd said....smile out loud!!!! thanx
