Ok,I thought because it could capture 3D pictures and movies with the cameras,they could use software that would evaluate shapes and distance,guess not then,maybe in the future :)

@GazVonhammer Even though the Nintendo 3DS cannot understand real-world 3D space, it doesn't mean AR games are impossible on the handheld console. In fact, you can see a tech demo in action if you search "Tested.com's Nintendo 3DS Hands-On Demo" on YouTube (at around 3:40). As I've mentioned, you'll need a marker/icon for it to work.

If the new 3DS can view your environment in 3D because of the front cameras,could they make a AR game that could understand your environment?so the character could climb your keyboard,becuse it understands it's dimensions in 3D space.

Unless the cameras on the Nintendo 3DS come with some sort of depth sensor, I'm afraid the 3DS is incapable of interpreting the physical real-world environment in digital 3D space. You'll still need marker(s) to tell the AR program about the 3D plane in relation to the camera.

Webcam and tracking program sees the patterns in the squares and calculates the 3D position and angle of it... and then it can draw any 3D object onto it... but it only shows on your computer screen, not in real life (that would be too amazing) :p

actually they do have like glasses of sorts that you can wear that will put the image right in front of u. You can even get the program on you iphone and certain other cellular phones that will let you see images through the screen on your cellie.

Search google for ARToolkit... download it and then print out one of the patterns, then run the app and you can see it working. You need a webcam, of course.

Hmmm it doesn`t work for me.

I have Gembird pc cam and there seems to be no problem with the Camera settings "test". so I don`t get it. if the problem isn`t in my camera than please tell me where it is. And please specify what do you mean by "in foront of the camera" Thank you in advance.
