  • My one year old girl was playing with my ipad when she suddenly split the keyboard in two by doing the zoom move that you use on pictures when the keyboard pops up.

  • Good info, you can also mention that when you pull your key up you can split it bu

  • You can also add other keybord layouts and cool emoticons for free.

  • Maybe we have different iOS since this video is now a year old, but the iPad 2 allows you to swipe up for anything that has only one alternative character. Your videos are great and very informative. God bless!

  • Thanks for the tips!

I have a quick question - I've been trying to film an iPad tutorial for a specific app, and the screen always comes out a bit blurry. I'm using a Flip HD and have tried different angles, lighting, screen brightness, etc and can't get it as clear as your video. Any tips would be much appreciated. Thanks!

  • very helpful

  • Why am I watchign this I dont even have a iPad.

  • this works on the ipod touches too!!!

    (i have a 2nd generation)

  • thanx man :))) very kind of you :)))

  • Thanks for the vid. About the additional characters accessible by keeping a key pressed, you said few people are aware of it. That may be true for the US. Virtually everywhere else in the world, everybody knows because you need those keys to actually write your language :-). While the amount of characters accessible is nice, typing e.g. German, where you need the umlauted vowels, it really slows you down. There's no adaption for non-English languages. Big drawback.

  • @Macorian Very good point to make. I actually speak German so I should have considered that ;)

  • @DetroitBORG Du sprichst deutsch, nett. While the iPad is a great product, one notices that Apple aren't always kings of localisation.E.g.: In emails, hitting return after the addressées name auto-capitalizes the next word. Well, that's nice, when I use e.g. an English, Spanish etc. keyboard but not a German bc in German, the first word in a letter (after the addressee) isn't capitalized. Small details but still. Yet, I'm always happy to hear about the amazing things it can do! So thnx again.

  • Great vid, I use pastes and safari everyday, and in skl for work. I'm curio us about how u got those range of tabs 'youtube' 'ebay'' 'amazon'.... Great vids

  • Is that an app that you are using in 1:26 ?

  • @glittershinesonme Yes, that is Pages.

  • I wasn't aware of the caps-lock option (I've got an iPod Touch 4G), but I did find out about these tricks on my own. Was this caps-lock option available on iTouch with iOS 4.1, 'cos I don't recall? I have firmware 4.3, and I have got it enabled by default... it helps in a few places...

    Anyways, nice video...

btw, one more trick, I dunno whther it exists on iPad or not: shake to undo/redo

  • @palalimpan Yes, capslock was always there. And indeed iPad can do shake to undo/redo.

  • Good video man u d best.

  • 3:12 is a paragraph symbol,

    and,

    3:46 is the promille symbol.

    :)

  • @philopher Thanks :)

  • Comment removed

  • I'm an iPod Touch 4G owner, not an iPad owner, and this video helped me. Thanks!

  • @djpablito Glad to hear it! :)

  • great vid. clear and easy

  • Excellent. Clear visually and auditorally. Organized.

  • @graciegirl433 Thanks :)

  • @jc18productions1 Ha, great idea :)

  • can u tell me which application were u using with the keyboard.

  • @nikhil319333 Pages

  • Hey... I.m new to ipad wat was d name of the application u used in dis hidden keybord demonstration? Thanks

  • @vinzapanta I was using Pages, an iWorks app from Apple.

  • æwśömë!!!!!

  • @ccwlandarch LOL

  • Swêët thæts æwsœmê

  • @schweij *snorts*

  • Thank you for this clear, easy to understand, useful information. I have an immune illness and have been puzzling about these seeming lacks in the keyboard features since my brain and body don't always cooperate with my desire to find the answers. Seriously, thank you.

  • @SLeimbach My pleasure, very glad to hear I helped!

  • I just opened my new ipad and charged it...why does it only show on screen an ITunes icon and the usb cable?

  • @luvdowop you have to plug it via usb to your computer and itunes will appear, then follow the instructions xD After that you will enjoy your ipad

  • @luvdowop You have to sync it to iTunes to activate it first...I know I'm very late to answer this and I'm sure you figured it out by now ;).

  • Ïtš äwėšømę

  • Excellent video! Thank you for the information.

  • Very nice video men!! I have no idea of that shortcuts

  • i love the way you say ä-umlaut :D

  • @stein9876 Danke! ;)

  • Everybody who don't know about this feature is a noob!

  • You seem smart, but I'm saddened by the fact you do not know the section sign.

  • @DeeJayBounce I actually use this sign everyday at work since I work with law materials, it's a common delimiter in legislative codification.

  • That's alright then. It also confirms my suspicions ;)

  • Very informative! I was not aware of these shortcuts.

  • @chinito77 Glad to hear it!

  • EVERYBODY KNOWS THOSE.

  • I knew about all of those. This wasn't much help

  • Thanks - very handy!

  • Very useful info!

  • The characters available also change depending on what international settings you're using. For example, if you've set your iPad to British English, you get the ".co.uk" domain in the domain key.

  • Does the Auto-Capitalization work differently on the iPhone and the iPad? Because on the iPhone that feature allows you to automatically type in caps the first letter after a period.

  • @TugaPipeJunior Yes, it works the same and can be turned on or off in the settings.

  • Cool, thanks!!!

  • what note app are you using ??????????????

  • @kidicey This is Pages, part of the iWork suite from Apple.

  • put 3 fingers on the home screen, and scroll up, this allows you to zoom on the Ipad while on the home screen

  • Y is a vowel last time i checked

  • @Changis158711 The letter Y can be regarded as both a vowel and a consonant. In terms of sound, a vowel is 'a speech sound which is produced by comparatively open configuration of the vocal tract, with vibration of the vocal cords but without audible friction...', while a consonant is 'a basic speech sound in which the breath is at least partly obstructed'. The letter Y can be used to represent different sounds in different words, and can therefore fit either definition.

  • how do you get 5 in a row and all that ???

  • @PearlDrums1234 Not sure I understand, can you clarify?

  • @DetroitBORG ok you know your icons you have 5 in a row not 4 how did u get it like that ???

  • @PearlDrums1234 Oh, you are talking about the icons in the dock? Just tap and hold an app icon until they wiggle, drag it to the dock. You can fit up to 6.

  • @DetroitBORG yer the icons in the dock wow that is coool and how about the apps in general the one is the rows and columns?

  • @PearlDrums1234 just turn ur ipad on its side and everything changes like in photo view

  • Great tip for degree symbol, genuinely didn't know that one! Or the flick to get hidden symbol either. Great stuff

  • @darranmoore You can also take some of this to the iPhone and iPod Touch.

  • Thanks for the tips!

  • @TheDeantrix My pleasure :)

  • Very Nice and I know this must have been a pain to edit because most symbols switch back to the original keyboard

  • @XxHiLaRoUSxX You have no idea, this video was a complete pain, consumed my whole evening and left me tired in the Morning ;).

  • cool video

  • These are the same on a iPhone / Ipod touch :) sweet didn't know that!¡

  • some of this featuresare in the ipod touch or iphone too!

  • @GangstaCan100 Yes indeed!

  • nice~~ thx for your uploading.

    How do you like shapewriter?

  • @syzforever I've never used Shapewriter, or UI's like it, but it is a very interesting technology.

  • I posted this video on my blog

    Batyam.co.il

  • @nehaisi Excellent, thanks!

  • Wow, I'm so glad theres an "auto caps lock" function - really comes in handy for me anyway.

    Cool video Mike! ;-)

  • @rav07 Thanks Rav!

  • that's pretty cool...but the problem is that there are no mathematical symbols on the keyboard...because the other day I was using my iPad in class and I really needed to use some of them...

  • @Xeyad1 There are some apps out there that allow you to enter Math characters, but iOS doesn't allow such keyboard integration across the entire platform. I hope they do work on this, especially if they want this to be an education tool.

  • great

  • Cool man thankx for that, very helpful

  • Thank you this was a very useful video, I didn't know about the swipe up to get an apostrophe! That is so helpful!

  • @TheJacobHolmes The apostrophe trick was the origin of this video. I was aware of these hidden characters for awhile, but the apostrophe trick was news to me and definitely the most useful. I decided that since so few are actually aware of these hidden keys, I dedicated video just for it. And there seems to be no other videos out there on the subject.

  • Great, tell a bunch of YouTube commenters how to type in all caps... just what we need!

But yeah good video nonetheless lol.

  • @sonicxracer You're welcome, and I'm sorry ;).

  • Dang Mike. How do you find all this cool stuff?

  • @ThatSnazzyiPhoneGuy Usually from other people or articles, I knew I had to do a video when I learned about it sometime ago.

  • damn i want the ipad... just cant buy it

  • great! more please!

  • @magicpandora The iPad is the gift that keeps on giving. Although my next video is probably going to be about the original Apple iPod remote ;).

  • Yeahh they did the same in the iphone!,

  • Great vid I didn't know the apostrophe key flick thing ''''''''''$₩£€¥°æêìøûñč
