The truman show was an awesome flick but gattaca is more complex compelling and complete. Everything about it was amazing from the music, writing , and the ideology it makes you feel like vincent feels besides its about the only film in witch Ethan's performance is immaculate second to none lol...
A man trapped inherently by his existence looking to leave where others deem it impossible. Whether trapped by discrimination or a TV dome and whether looking to the stars or Fuji the movies feel the same barr that light/ dark divide they mention. They are both set in alternate futures they both feature the sea heavily. Hell they even fall in love with the one blonde who 'knows' but doesnt care!
I'm going for Truman show but really the two films evoke the exact same emotions in me
I think Truman Show is better, simply because of the grand irony of it all. His life has always been this TV show about a normal guy, but as soon as he realizes he's NOT normal, his life becomes this insane plot of intrigue and escape, simultaneously going deeper into the thing he doesn't want to be, and making his show even more popular.
I have to side with the stupid jerk on this one, although I may have to see Gattaca again now. I was thinking that it was a no-brainer that The Truman Show was better, but maybe I was in a bad mood when I saw Gattaca the one time, many years ago.
I loved both these movies, but I think I'd have to go with Gattaca. I just loved all the clever tricks he came up with to create his identity. That made it really fun to watch, but then it was also interesting on a deeper, philosophical level.
Ive NEVER seen Gattaca. Your comments convinced me I should check it out. That's what I love about these podcasts. Your discussions often sway me to see new movies that I might have overlooked.
I am going to have to go with Truman Show. Both are extremely great, but I love Jim Carrey's performance in Truman show soooo much. And the first time I watched Truman Show was with my family so it's a bit nostalgic as well.
i liked Gattaca cuz of seeing it like 6 times in school for my science classes. Truman show was kinda eh. i didnt like it. But i saw it a long time ago. I think i was too young.
never seen gattaca, always meant to, truman show is great, and i love bigbrother, the social experiment and how people break down over time is great. will truman show happen, i think the public would oppose doing that to someone, but what great entertainment it would be. But you would want him to die before you so you could see the end, which is a little morbid.
Hard choice. It's true that they're similar in a lot of ways but I'd have to pick Truman Show, though I did like Gattaca a lot--I think it's underappreciated.

They were both written by the same guy. I love both films because of that. I like THE TRUMAN SHOW more.
