The Yu Yu Hakusho anime followed the manga but added a few minor details, which, in my opinion, made it better than the manga. This definitely doesn't need a remake, there's no reason.

YYH>DBZ. Better characterization, story and more interesting fights, pretty much outclassing DBZ in all of the categories that it made it a great show, but DBZ is still good, too, though I much prefer the original Dragonball.

In YYH, it stops being about saving the world and starts being about the main characters figuring out who they are. And I also agree on your last point. Dragonball was more about adventure, not just fighting.

I grew up with DBZ and I watched it a lot more than YuYu, but Yu Yu was like my substitue DBZ crack, and later thanks to a Youtuber who lost his account to YT copyright a long time ago I got to watch the fourth season I didn't even know existed and finally watch the series proper (I barely knew what was going on beyond the DT arc). That said, I know it's your opinion, but I like both shows equally.

@Pimpact206 the only thing I started to notice bout YuYu is that the fights are a little repetitive - in nearly every single fight the hero fighter proposes a kamikaze tactic. Yusuke vs the Ninja Guy in Genkai's tournament, Yusuke vs Toguro, Yusuke vs Sensui, and Yusuke only loses the last match. They all share those moments just being suicidal and it luckily works out. Moments like Yusuke, Genkai, and Kuwabara's "deaths" would've been a lot more dramatic if they stuck.

@Supahx so did I, but retrospectively, I guess I sort of knew it was coming. Still, it's not about thinking they were dead, but accepting that they were "Killed Off For Real" just as the characters had to. Genkai was dead for maybe 10 episodes at best? Sure, she could come back. But Kuwabara? An episode at most, and then he just came back. And Yusuke dying a second time? HOLYCRAP, but then Kurama/Hiei/Kuwabara get beaten anyway and play "Vegeta" to Yusuke.

@Pimpact206 Kuwabara's would have worked - physically, he was the weakest member of the team at all times, his one useful ability was given to his sister who wasn't a fighter. His loss drove Yusuke over the edge, and it would have pressed Sensui to search for a new solution. Genkai's death by Toguro would work since Yusuke is now forced to live in a world where his master has passed on, remember the way he reacted when they were about to leave the island?

Yusuke's death against Sensui would work - come on, the dramatic irony after everything he did just to come back from death and then narrowly avoiding it this whole time just to be killed by an older, better, and more experienced version of himself? Totally symbolic :) and heartbreaking since it would give Hiei and Kurama a bad guy to beat up. Kurama seemed pretty suicidal during his final fight as Yoko, he could have survived. And Hiei living with Mukuro. It all could have worked.

But all in all the anime ends happily - and I can't completely disagree since I become so nostalgic whenever I see this anime. Ultimately, YuYu's just darker, and in it's English dub, even borrows several of DBZ's voice actors. DBZ had fights that were far more epic and less talkative (Yusuke vs Sensui had some good speeches but had way too many "Kay, let's end the warm up" lines, YuYu had more compelling arcs and characters, agreed. That's my rant, I like both.

They have reasons for the way they are, not because they are evil to be evil. Also no filler, how can you go wrong with that. Yea, DBZ had a lot of filler, it's not a bad thing, but so much of it was unnecessary.

Not only that, the last saga was disappointing, rather than try to develop Gohan as a major character it just focuses on Goku again, fighting probably the most ridiculous looking Villian I've seen in an action show.

I haven't seen all of Yu Yu Hakusho, but I definitely feel I should, it's one of the few shows that's actually BETTER than the manga.

Also, the YYH characters like Kurama could easily outsmart a DBZ character.

In YYH the spirit blasts penetrate people and can be very difficult to block. YYH is much more realistic when it comes to pain and broken bones, so it may appear that the characters are weaker.

@ronaldo2ronaldinho In DBZ, Goku gets hit by a brick from ChiChi and flips a shit in pain, his arms can be broken and yet somehow they are still able to bend perfectly fine and the show isn't very committed to seeming realistic when coming to injuries. Goku is in Ape Vegeta's hands and yet a few squeezes only breaks a couple of ribs. Then Goku is able to get up after the fight is all done and still use energy. No this is not due to being strong. Also, energy is seen more like burns than YYH's.
