  • Wtf ! I cant believe it xD my nexus s is now fixed

  • This video is popular on United Kingdom

  • What if you have a tablet :(

  • Yay! That did the trick for my HTC Desire. Thanks :)

  • It worked for my HTC EVO. I am glad to find a solution, but I wish it would store the calibration. I have to do it each time I restart the compass app.

  • This video is a favorite on Manama

  • Nice!! Tried 10 compasses and did not work. Used this method for tiny compass and BAM. Suddenly no jittering and points out the north! Thx

  • stupid gingerbread....still sucks no matter what I do. Rooting is not an option so i guess i'm screwed.

  • Best method I've seen! Thank you for sharing.

  • Good app

  • the dumb app asked me to wave in figure 8 with the display facing upwards throughout.......

  • It worked! Thanks!

  • Thanks so much, this sorted out my confused HTC Sensation.

  • Thank you! No more crazy driving my phone around like a kid with a toy plane! Every phone should have this in the manual or even have a video on the phone as a tutorial. This worked perfectly on my (previously) confused Optimus S.

  • Just great! Thank you very much!!! Work on Samsung Galaxy S

  • lol, I KNEW I was doing it wrong! Wow, the whole "figure 8" rotation is really vague - had no idea it was meant to be a "do a figure 8 with your wrist".

  • poxa cara no consegui calibrar o meu iphone alguem paderia me ajudar plies

  • wow! :D it works my samsung galaxy s

  • I was working on the figure 8 motion. Now I know how to do it, thanks!

  • OMG it really does work. HTC Desire. They really should put this in the manual... or the app help page at least...

  • Thanks, I was doing the figure of 8 on my HD2 in a flat plane and it wasnt working reliably, doing it by rolling the wrist works great.

In case it helps anyone else - sometimes my HD2 would show the "calibration needed" screen but recently the compass just wasnt working properly. The compass would wobble a bit but wasnt pointing to North, mostly it was pointing to the same bit of the phone as I turned around.

Doing a recalibration figure of 8 has solved the problem though.

  • Thanks, this works great with the HTC Evo 4g!

  • @Tayg0 do you have to be in a certain mode to do this on the evo? I use c:geo for geo-caching and thats where it doesn't seem to work..

  • It worked flawlessly.

I've been rackin my brains movin the iphone in all sorts of 8 figures but in vain.

Nothing else worked besides this. I thought the compass was broken or somethin. Thanks. Super Like

  • works! simple and perfect :)

  • worked for me thx man !!

  • does anyone know how to calibrate the droid x compas?!! Please!!!!

  • Fuuuuuuuck it doesn't work with the Droid X :(

  • Works for HTC Desire too. And you don't need to choose "Calibrate" on menu. Just keep open the compass application and do the 8 movement.

  • Worked like a charm!

  • nothing I tried before would fix it, but this did! THANKS!

  • Awesome! totally worked.

  • This worked perfectly!

  • Just adding my thanks for this. :-)

  • FINALLY. Everything else I tried failed!

  • Hahahah não sabia que era assim, vou me sentir menos retardado quando fizer isso na rua, vou parecer uma bixa agora rsrs nas vlw ;)

  • Thank you for this - i was almost crying that my new HTC Desire has dead compas... i was trying to calibrate on all possible ways - except THIS one - :) Thank you again - now it work! ;) HF! - bye

  • hahahahahha nao sabia q era assim!!

  • Congrats Steve made you look like an idiot.

  • Wow... this method is amazing! I tried everything figure of 8 wise (horizontally, vertically) and doing this a couple of times fixes it instantly! Good going!

  • I was expected it to be more complicated. Thanks!

  • thx it works good now showing the right direction on the arrow

  • My compass on G1 was totally screwed (pointing only in one quadrant), now it works again. Thanks.

  • Seems to have worked on my Motorola Droid.

  • THANKS SOOO MUCH.. i was in soo much frustration cuz my desire's compass wasnt working properly and ive tried other methods but this is the only method that worked. Thanks again!

  • best and coolest method!

  • BRILLIANT!

I've had my Cliq XT for about a week and the "figure 8" instructions for calibrating are so vague it's always been off by about 60 degrees. Your iPhone method worked PERFECTLY!!!

  • thanks, this works really well.

you can also do this in the maps app with the compass feature active, which will show which way you're facing on a road (so you can double check it's accurate). :-)

  • This is WRONG. The iPhone needs to reach each 360 degree position to be calibrated. What you have done is trick it into thinking it's calibrated (and trick yourself apparently). It needs to stay glass up and go around the figure 8 'top first/forward' so it's actually like a car driving around a track where the lock button would be the right head light and headphone jack left headlight and you complete one full lap.

  • @fiveryanfrenzy

Thanks, it didn't workd with the video, I had to do it like you said: display up and make the phone turn over all 360°. I used to wave in an 8 figure with the up side of the phone in one direction, that didn't work. The thing you said about it being like a car helped me really good.

  • Thanks a lot. Does also work for HD2 :D. The application for iPhone seems a lil bit smoother btw.

  • Simple and easily understand.

  • Finally! Somebody with sense. Great video broski. You showed people it's pretty much common sense to calibrate the digital compass when the directions are displayed right on the screen "Wave iPhone in a figure-eight motion" which is this ---> 8. I have literally seen people post videos of them getting upset because they don't know what to do. How did you people ever pass grades in school. LOL. Wave in a figure-eight, how hard can that be?

  • Very nice video explaining the calibration process and also very fast. Worked on G1. Thanks.

  • Worked really well on my seemingly f-ed up G1. Thanks for the tip. and though the video was short, an explanation of the figure 8 could have been pretty lengthy. Nice call on venue.
