by chance i find this video. thanks a lot for uploading.
well, chongming is my homeland, and i have spent almost 18 years there until i went to college.
i miss my time in dongtan where we celebrated our high school graduation about ten years ago. we stayed in some of my classmates' homes and spent 5 days there. after that, i have never been there again.
this video just recalls some of my memory. we are so young at that time.
I visited the office in Shanghai ARUP last year, and it was my feeling that the development of a "First Green City" was concept to have a balance city with a thriving economy and population. Like the U.S. China is pushing for new ideas in sustainability, but the area of Dongtan is a fragile environment for migrant birds.
I think the project has a lot of good sustainable ideas, but creating a city out in the country side of Dongtan is not sustainable, and it will create a gentrification.
I am afraid the devleopment will happen soon after the bridge and tunnel project is finished. I oppose the idea of building any kind of city in the last preserved land.
Well, local residents like me do not have any say in the process of planning or implementation. Many of us lost means of life because of land grabbing from speculating developpers.
We remembered many many migrant birds come and go every year. I hope our children can see it too.
thanks for the video, but it seems hard to find the sustainablity point in it...
