That looks like MEM so it wouldnt even be XJ rampers, it would be Aramark third party contract rampers. Mesaba plane in NW colors, neither of the two airlines employees working the flight.
i work for delta... that IS harsh...but uhh...they usually use saab carts on thoes..and i dont see one of thoes either...but they look like they could be contractors
I work for Mesaba Airlink in MSP we don't look at the bags, we unload and load hundreds of bags a day. We could care less if there is a fragile sticker on it a bag is a bag. If you have something fragile in the bag DONT PUT IT IN THE BAG. The only thing we are very carefull with are animals and thats it we dont get paid a whole lot
Ditto with what Kopihucky said. If half these people understood the tight schedule you're on when you're working they might catch a clue.
They also forget a baggage handler handles hundreds if not thousands of bags everyday. There is a point at which these bags stop being someones stuff and just become work...
Sad to say.. I worked at fedex a few years back and it was a job.. a box is a box.. we were on a schedule and did not have time to read if things were fragile or set them down gently. I'm pretty sure these guys have the same mentality. They are there for a check and could really care less about your stuff.
@Slorn22 They charge Extra and you have a weight limit, even before you could always only bring one carry ons. I do a lot of business flights all year long and thats how it is. What Airline did she travel on???
Im a pilot myself but Im not a Infomercial pilot so I dont know much about their limitations.
@Ivansky1 She went on a continental flight. And yes, two checkins but like you said have a 50lb weight limit and was charged extra for the 2nd. She also did have two carry-ons. One fits up top, the other below the seat? i think.
These baggage handlers are just keeping it real. If you can't handle these heart-wrenching, tru-life scenerios, you better not come near an airport. Stuff is thrown, squishified, jammafied and crunchafied. Just keep it real, people.
Personally as a Ramp Rat for MEM,this is unacceptable on my ramp. Here at MEM, we take pride on our job. This is obviously a employee that needs a ticket out. I dont know where this was recorded at, but anyone sees this at happening at memphis MEM please tell a gate agent. And the last comment is about correct.
I'd think anyone that is working with SAAB 340's and CRJ200s would do that. Those things are such clunkers. I love the CRJ200s though, beautiful planes. But you are right, this guy obviously needs to be talked to. Ive never seen anything like this at DTW or my hometown GSP when watching NWA, and i do love NWA.
Mesaba. They make LESS than NWA employees (if that's possible), and they have to take the bags off by hand. Instead of a bonus for himself, Mark Steenland(CEO of NWA, which owns Mesaba) should buy these poor bastards a belt loader.
Mesaba doesn't even have there own ramp employees in MEM. It's Aramark Aviation that does there ramp work. And it's Doug Steenland whos the CEO. It's not like there kicking and throwing bags around, they dont have a cart so there improvising with what they got.
Lets see---these guys get paid about 8.50 an hour, work in climatic extremes that are off the scale, are treated like shit, and will be worked by asshole management until they are cripples. And you have a problem with the way they treat your baggage? They could care less, and why not? Would you be willing to sacrifice your body so that each bag had a pleasant travel experience?
So what are you saying---that baggage handlers should kiss the ass of each passenger before they place their bag on/off the airplane with tender loving care?
No hoggdawn... what we are saying is people should do their fucking jobs! I agree that NWA and others should pay more, so that we don't get stuck with retards like this handling baggage!
NWA will never pay a decent wage because the traveling public wants one thing: cheap fares. This is what cheap fares provides you with: cheap service. And, even if the passenger did pay more, that money would just line the pockets of assholes like Checci and Wilson (the two corporate raiders who screwed NWA, its employees, its passengers, and the entire state of Minnesota.) It is time to re-regulate the airlines!
that may be so for some ramp rats, but I personally handle the luggage as if it were mine. Especially guitars & pets. I take pride in my job. but the video is a pathetic cry for a message to HQ. We dont need rampers like that. :)
It cracks me up that passengers freak when they see their bags tossed around a little bit on the ramp. They should see what happens to them with the mechanical sorting devices out of the public eye!
Fifth ramp agent agrees. If your bag is overweight, it is going to get f-ed up, because the last thing a ramper wants after a fatiguing, long day of work is to lug around a heavy ass bag. Read an OJI report for an airline, at least half of them are due to overweight bags. There is no reason to bring 50 plus pounds of clothing in a standard size checked bag.
Another ramp agent "chimes in"... Like said earlier, IF YOU DON'T NEED IT, DON'T TAKE IT!!! Some passengers are crazy with the bags they take!!! And fragile stickers??? Uh-uh... Don't use them!
Wonder how many semi-illiterate and can't-fire-me-I'm-in-the-union types actually realize how much really scary shit they abuse when they stuff baggage compartments? Certain medical and chem labs save big bucks by illegal shipping.
Tip from a second ramp agent: The first ESE is correct. You should all be packing hard sided suitcases. That way your bags can take the pressure of other bags being loaded on top of it. It is really a no brainer. And all you people who use cheap bags: It is your fault that they break when you over pack them! These are just words of wisdom from another ramp agent.
lol.. and you think this is bad? You probably think that the bags are easily placed in the aircraft too. Hints from a ramp agent.... use a hard sided suit case, if your bag is heavy it WILL be under the other bags and compressed, and DO NOT put a fragile tag/sticker on a bag over 50lbs....
Well, that explains why my brand new suitcase was broken my first time flying!
JoshDPathfinder 6 months ago
well. fuck you all baggage handlers. I wish I could fuckin throw your luggage as far as I can and high as I could and broke the shit out of it.

This is what happens when you cut wages and outsource work to third parties.
sicarim 3 years ago
I see it both ways. You shouldnt pack something fragile. If you are worried about it breaking, then carry it with you.
But handlers could be a tad more gentle.

It's not only NWA. A lot of other airlines handles baggage like that. Many times especially in Europe, they lost and damaged my bags.

good statement, i mean. it's baggage and their working their tail off in the first place just to get it from one place to another.
MacExpert 4 years ago
Nobody forced them to take a job like that for 8.50 an hour. They could do Starbucks for the same price and not lug bags.
