I would not advice to buy this simulator. Even tho it's a pretty good simulator, the support is non-exsistent. I have purchased this product about a year ago and signed up for the (private) forums immediatly (you can only sign up by sending an email to the admin). After 6 months or so without ANY responce at all, i asked him what was taking so long. he replied to me that he banned my account for 'rude behavior towards the support team'

Was thinking of getting this software. Will it work with Windows 7 64bit? This OS has very good in-built speech to text functionality. Will it work? Can you switch to tower control also? What are the manuals like?
@blupheonix44 You can actually host a session using ATCsimulator2 and invite as many FSX pilots you would like to participate. You can have both FSX pilots and AI pilots visible on the scope and be able to provide ATC service to them. Although the FSX pilot won't see the AI traffic, they will hear all communications. You can actually let the FSX pilots use the standard multiplayer mode so they can see each other, and also interface with ATCsimulator2.
This ATC sim looks amazing. I downloaded the demo and received the Run Time Error 75. After fixing that I was able to make it to the main menu. Upon clicking start, I got another error because it couldn't be used with my widescreen format and decided not to waste my time. I am looking for a REALISTIC ATC sim such as this one.
For random redsox....this is Detroit Metro (Wayne county) airport (DTW). You can actually see the depiction of Lake St. Clair in NE part of the scope with a curved line (the Detroit river) flowing into Lake Erie in the SE part of the scope. DTW uses triples with arrivals working the outside 2 parallels and departures off the center runway.
So, Toddprotap, are you an air traffic student at the academy or just a college student at one of the ATC schools like UND or Beaver or Embry Riddle?
When you buy the game, does it come with a manual that explains what needs to be done when playing, because it seems sucha difficult game? Anyone answering this please!!!

@ECV4ME It was because of a bad forecast and a misreading of the winds. We thought we were going to be able to circle from the ILS but I decided that the visibility was bad so I'd rather go straight in we had a 5000 foot runway and the crosswind in the book is a suggestion too which I usually follow but lake breezes happen when you least expect it.
@zimri19- I'm finishing my atc degree and it is actually three- forty eight, that's because fed ex is an approved FAA call sign which means they are said in group fashion, ex: asa 2345= Alaska twenty three- forty eight or
FDX233= fed ex two- thirty three..this is all per the 7110.65, which is the book that has all the rules for atc. : ) sorry it's a really late response

@Toddprotap Hi! Im just trying to use the free trial, for it, they dont give you any keyboard hints about how to use it. Do you have, at least some commands I can use so I can have the job done? speech recognition is not a supported feature and is only made available to the customer after the sale. If you are basing a decision to buy the game on speech recognition, then you are going to be extremely disappointed. Since the sr system can fail miserably, and some customers tried to get a refund, the whole system was removed from the game. SR is flaky at best, and does not work for everyone.
error 75 is the result of not following very specific instructions related to any program written for Windows XP on VISTA/7. Consult Microsoft if you are not sure how to install XP programs on VISTA/7.
@smokingws6 Controllers are great, flying is not the easiest job though, it is easy usually, but in bad weather it's a whole different game. Pilots also have to be ready for lost comm.
Not always, you shouldn't use the autopilot in icing or severe turbulence. Also, pilots do need to use their own weather radar. Also have you tried landing a skyhawk in 18G25 direct crosswind on an ILS down to minimums. That is hard

I am an air traffic control instructor. I train hundreds of air traffic controllers every year from all over the world (Europe, Africa, former Soviet Union, Latin America, Middle East).
Today modern Airspace Service Providers use 2KX2K displays. The don't use circular green screens.

@rbdavis1957, with all your experience you seem to fail to understand what you are looking at. First of all, this NOT a green screen. This is an ARTS-IIIa terminal approach control system. The system you have compared this to is used in enroute control, not terminal. Enroute control systems do not have a sweep either. So, that is your first mistake. ATCsimulator2 simulates STARS (Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System) used instead of ARTS. Thanks for your superior judgements.

lol I like this alot, tried it too but the computer doesn't understand what I'm saying 9 out of 10 times... Maybe because I still don't know what the commands are.. I only know the fly heading, speed and altitude command, but only my heading command works :(.
The pilots do listen to the atc but if they are asked to go below the stall speed or the recommended speed they will decline or not listen to them and say no can do

Thx to this vid i now know that to clear an aircraft for ILS you say (AIRCRAFT), cleared ILS (RUNWAY) approach :D not (AIRCRAFT) cleared ILS Runway XXX approach as i thought :D. Now i wonder if it is possible to give procced direct commands using ATClistener :\

make sure you make it clear when you say "reduce speed to TWO five zero" sometimes when i run them together it picks up the "two" as the same as the "to" so it thinks the reduction is to 50
i have an old version of this game and atc listener from atc simulator website i disable the ms speech recognition the when the scenarion loads i say "listener go" then it beeps then when i exit it says in atc listener "unrecognized" could some one help???
usually this is due to your mic. Are you using a desktop mic or somthing that is over sensative? Often if you log the session with listener it will show a symbol then the command you gave then another symbol which generally means its picking up too much background noise. If you are using a headset be sure the mic input is up and that the mic boost is on. Hope this helps.
I have followed the directions and I believe I am ready to go. I get an error message from Listener 'Error 429, ActiveX component can't create object. Any advice. Can't find any help online.

I finally purchased this. I've been starting out at small airports, like Allentown. Plus, I'm a little familiar with them since I'm a student pilot in the Philly Bravo. The only thing I have to get working is the speech. Any good recommendations / suggestions for a microphone?
I would get head comfortable headset. I like the kind that just attach to one ear with no band on the head. I think at one time there was an issue with USB mics but im not sure if that is a problem anymore.

ctrl key but you dont have to hold it. You do need the voice program for it if you have the newer version of the simulator. You can get that on the website forums.

if i say for example fedex 3 48 cleared visual approach runway one seven, it just ignores me, when i type it, it works.
what am i doing wrong?
i can use fly heading, decent and maintain, climb and maintain, contact tower, etc. by voice, but for some reason i can not make them land by voice.
what is the actual command for that?

You have to give tracon controllers respect. Its not an easy job. Flying is the easiest job in the aviation community.

@smokingws6 Controllers are great, flying is not the easiest job though, it is easy usually, but in bad weather it's a whole different game. Pilots also have to be ready for lost comm.

Not always, you shouldn't use the autopilot in icing or severe turbulence. Also, pilots do need to use their own weather radar. Also have you tried landing a skyhawk in 18G25 direct crosswind on an ILS down to minimums. That is hard

This display is not like the modern radar displays.

@ATCRUS . Yes, this is the ARTS-IIIa mode of operation. You can also play the game in the STARS (Standard Terminal Automation System Replacement) that you claiming in use today. This game simulates both. So I guess this was your attempt to discredit the accuracy of the game?

I am an air traffic control instructor. I train hundreds of air traffic controllers every year from all over the world (Europe, Africa, former Soviet Union, Latin America, Middle East).
Today modern Airspace Service Providers use 2KX2K displays. The don't use circular green screens.
My comment does not intend to discredit the accuracy of the game.

@rbdavis1957, with all your experience you seem to fail to understand what you are looking at. First of all, this NOT a green screen. This is an ARTS-IIIa terminal approach control system. The system you have compared this to is used in enroute control, not terminal. Enroute control systems do not have a sweep either. So, that is your first mistake. ATCsimulator2 simulates STARS (Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System) used instead of ARTS. Thanks for your superior judgements.

This very morning (July 5, 2011) was the great opening of the new Lima ACC/APP in Peru. INDRA tech 2Kx2K displays in every station.
Bucharest APP control 2Kx2k displays. Mexico ACC/APP Thales 2KX2K displays in every station.

This video shows ONE mode of gameplay, The other mode, STARS, which is a depiction of the current state of the art, is also available. Get a life.

lol I like this alot, tried it too but the computer doesn't understand what I'm saying 9 out of 10 times... Maybe because I still don't know what the commands are.. I only know the fly heading, speed and altitude command, but only my heading command works :(.
Also have alot of trouble with the callsigns.

If you accidentally asked them to reduce speed to stall speed, will they do so and show a crash?

The pilots do listen to the atc but if they are asked to go below the stall speed or the recommended speed they will decline or not listen to them and say no can do

Thx to this vid i now know that to clear an aircraft for ILS you say (AIRCRAFT), cleared ILS (RUNWAY) approach :D not (AIRCRAFT) cleared ILS Runway XXX approach as i thought :D. Now i wonder if it is possible to give procced direct commands using ATClistener :\

Finally got the voice recognition working! :D Only i have the same problem, it always sees two as to or something, when i say turn left heading two five zero, he's picking up zero five zero.. Really annoing.. Great video, your really a pro!

How do you get the pilots to read-back speed reductions to 250? Every time I try they think it's 50 instead. Using ATC Listener too.

make sure you make it clear when you say "reduce speed to TWO five zero" sometimes when i run them together it picks up the "two" as the same as the "to" so it thinks the reduction is to 50

i have an old version of this game and atc listener from atc simulator website i disable the ms speech recognition the when the scenarion loads i say "listener go" then it beeps then when i exit it says in atc listener "unrecognized" could some one help???

usually this is due to your mic. Are you using a desktop mic or somthing that is over sensative? Often if you log the session with listener it will show a symbol then the command you gave then another symbol which generally means its picking up too much background noise. If you are using a headset be sure the mic input is up and that the mic boost is on. Hope this helps.

I finally purchased this. I've been starting out at small airports, like Allentown. Plus, I'm a little familiar with them since I'm a student pilot in the Philly Bravo. The only thing I have to get working is the speech. Any good recommendations / suggestions for a microphone?

I would get head comfortable headset. I like the kind that just attach to one ear with no band on the head. I think at one time there was an issue with USB mics but im not sure if that is a problem anymore.

ctrl key but you dont have to hold it. You do need the voice program for it if you have the newer version of the simulator. You can get that on the website forums.
