Im glad I at least got to see the last glory days of nascar. Saw Petty race.. Dale... I was born in 89. My first movie was days of thunder, my dad took me. I was into racing all my life. last race I went to before this weekend was at california speedway like 2004.Thought I should start going again to support a sport that I love.I really think people just stopped going because it is really expensive. less action in the sport and very expensive to actually go to a race. hope the sport doesn't fade
@praster666 I love the sport to, but in 07, 08, 09, and 10, it was all about Jimmie Johnson and Kyle Bush, which in my opinion made this sport boring. Ever notice how boring the race gets when either Kyle Bush, or Johnson get in the lead? Everyone stops racing each other, and tries to catch up to Johnson or Kyle, and thus they drive to hard and lose, but when any one else is in the lead, there's always 2 and 3 wide racing, and everyone has a good car. This has been the best year since 2000.
@flubber342 seriously! I actually stopped watching all together for a few years 2008 -2010 I did not watch.. It's actually sad because I love this sport, always have. I used to attend the california speedway race every year until 05.. But I went this year and I was going crazy when harvick passed him... there were tons of damn lowes jackets around me and they were all being babies about it. I love finishes like that.. hopefully this year gets even better. Glad I started watching again.
@praster666 I went to the talladega race, I loved the finish, but all the Johnson fans took it to the extreme, they would throw beer cans at anyone who was wearin a Harvick T-shirt or a Jeff Gordon T-shirt, what is funny, I went around tellin all the drunk poeple that Johnson went below the yellow line, and that Bowyer won the race, then everyone started goin WHHHOOO GO BOWYER! instead of sayin go Johnson, good times, good times.
@RyDogRidesTheBus got rid of what? The COT is still around they just changed the wing to a spoiler but every thing else with the body s still the same.
Man...the good old days. Racing to the line, unique cars, legit rivalries and villians, Bob/Ned&Benny, Ken Squier, no pit speed limits, several non 1.5 mile cookie cutter tracks...I still like the "new" NASCAR but I have such fond memories as a kid of the good old days.
Davey still pulled a top 25 (well...25th exactly and 7 laps down) despite the flip and with no hood! It's too bad, he would have been the antidote to Jeff Gordon mid-90s domination. At least 2 titles in my opinion.
@Nerrt45 im only 16 i really dont remember the good old days. and just to all the things you said that were better i think they need a pit speed limit but thats it
NASCAR used to be so fun to watch. these guys worked their ass off & raced hard. i think a lot of todays racing is just getting in a car and driving the car....not racing the car. once again, technology has ruined something cool
Yeah, I met davey at church ST station in orlando feb 1992. I was 7 and i still got the picture and poster FORD THUNDER. Mark martin was there but stuck his head out the door and didn't sign a damn autograph....TRUE STORY. But you got to love the way that 5 looked back then hmmhmm.
I think he could have atleast finished on the lead lap because the race was near the end and all they need to do is peel off the bent sheet metal and change the tires.
u gotta miss this kid. he was a good little driver. i wouldnt say he was awesome, but he was great, and good. Was definately a championship driver in his future after the 92 season, to bad that season never came. We miss ya Davey.

What are them damn niggers doing out there on the race track any how? I thought all them niggers did was box, basketball, run fast, and if they are smart, they make it into MLB & the NFL. NASCAR is just too much for them niggers to understand. Sitting back in a seat, and going around in circles takes a lot of smarts!
Hmmm, they say the "car of tommorrow" is so much tougher now. . . I'll believe that when one of them rolls like Allison did and continues. . . Oh wait, nevermind that. They're so overloaded with aero parts and built to fly apart it'd be pretty much be done for. . .
I haven't seen anyone put in a new windshield in the pits before...I guess this was before they had those tearoffs...Kirk Shlemerdine drives his own car now...his best finish was 20th in 2006 Daytona 500.
Back then in the 70's and 80's, the windshields were still made of glass and whenever they raced at Daytona or Talladega because of the high speeds, they were prone to crack or pop out during spins and crashes. The current Lexan windshields were not first used until 1994.
Yeah I see now, I started watching NASCAR around 1993, the year Allison got killed...he was that era's Dale Jr. except Allison had more natural ability...you know though those splitters they put on those cars nowadays, if you damage it bad enough that is an automatic DNF(Did Not Finish) you just can't get back in.
It's amazing to see how awesome these nascar cars were built to take the beating and keep going...and how drivers like Allison continue on to race even if the car was beaten up! This was real nascar racing... now it's nothing more then just entertainment, greed, and, expense to keep the real fans and the real drivers out of the sport..
Joy is doing an incredible job at FOX Sports. I wish FOX would broadcast the whole season. Their team is just awesome with Joy, McReynolds and Waltrip. It owns ABC's Jerry Punch, Wallace, and whoever the third guy with the beard is. Although that guy I can't remember the name is a pretty good analyst.
Petree was the crew chief of Dale Earnhardt and Car owner of the 55 and 33 cars in 1999-2002. The team broke up after 2003. He had Bobby Hamilton Sr. win at Talladega in spring of '01 and Joe Nemechek win at North Carolina in fall of '01.
@CreepyBastard55 I completely agree with you. One of the broadcasters for the NCWTS does a really good job as well. But, FOX Sports should get the season, seriously.
someone with computer knowledge tell me what i need to be able to upload videos. I have a bunch of complete races from the late 80's all on VHS tapes. would love to share highlights if not too complicated.
well im not sure how to get them on your computer but when you do move it to a certain file place and then click upload and enter the title and all that and it will ask for you to choose the file and pick the file you want and then click UPLOAD
lol gotta love the good old days running out with a new windshield or when Earnhardt rolled and they duct taped that friggin thing back together... Nascars entertainment factor may have gone up but it lost a lot of heart
Dale Earnhardt once said in 1998 in an interview that had Davey not been killed then he would not have been a 7 time champion. I actually have that somewhere and will post it when I find it.
I saw that. If you have NASCAR's 50th Anniversary Series the interview is in "Good Old Gods" video which profiles NASCAR Legends Past and Present.
Earnhardt said "Davey just had so much talent if Davey was here he would be champion, champion, champion, and I might not be sevn time champion but we were never able to see it".
I happen to have that whole series. I uploaded the Earnhardt interview a week ago or so. It is titled "Earnhardt's comments on Allison" or something like that.
You are an Earnhardt fan and didn't know that Kirk Shelmerdine was Earnhardt's crew chief? They only won 4 of Dale's 7 championships together. I couldn't stand Earnhardt back then and I even know that.
Daytona 500 'cause it was a snorefest, very boring race, Benson should have won that race if it wasn't for a late caution flag. Jarrett got by him and won. His only victory was when he beat out his old teammate Mark Martin at North Carolina Speedway for the win, it was a thrilling battle, also Benson battled injuries at Richmond and Daytona and he returned in the early fall so it was up and down 2002 for Benson.
As far as the comment about Allison possibly being better than Earnhardt. Dale Earnhardt himself said that he would not have won 7 championships if Davey Allison hadn't of been killed.
In addition to Davey's wreck,Phil Barkdoll spun in the same place and rolled onto his side on lap 144.There was also a big crash on lap 72.(It was cut out of the Nascar Classics replay).
LOL ..I seen on another show on TNN in 1989 called Hidden Heroes near the end that Davey and Geoff Bodine had a little shoving match after the Daytona 500...
What happened to Elliot in this race? they show his in car, but they say it's not him driving.
