  • given this wasn't put in for power, why not share what mileage you're getting?

  • I find it interesting that you can't get torque since horsepower is calculated by torque vs rpm.

  • @hondarideralex Did not have a tachometer, so I don't have RPM's. Dyno program was not capable of deriving RPM from wheel speed either for some reason.

  • manual or auto

  • @christiangr22 Manual, NV5600 6-speed.

  • Do you know if the nv3500 tranny will work? Whats the torque?

  • @TheDodge4444 No it will not. The bell housing on that transmission only fits the gas engines.

  • so what kind of mileage do you get?

  • @kenfo0 always average 20 or higher. Personal record of 28MPG.

  • Are you running the ISB or the regular 4BT? Looking at swapping a 4BT into my 02 F150 and completely getting rid of EFI.

  • @zapityzapzap It's a 93', so it's pre-ISB. It's equivalent to the engine you would find in 89-93 Dodge Rams with Cummins engines.

  • how much horsepower does a stock 4bt make?

  • @sjjdiienno1 Depends on the CPL, this one was rated at 110 or 115 I believe.

  • Sounds like a detroit diesel. Awesome autometers and gauge pillar. What company makes the gauges adn the pillar?

  • @Busdude97 Autometer, Cobalt series gauges

  • i really wanna talk with you about doing a 4bt cummins swap...in something that may be pretty difficult. a 1998 dodge Dakota, V6 2-wheel drive. i wanna try this swap in my new dakota and I wanna knowyour opinion on it.

  • Is the 4BT mechanically or electronically injected? I'm thinking about swapping my 4.2L f150s engine for a 4BT before the Texas emission regs for diesels get changed from their non-exsistant state.

  • @zapityzapzap mechanical, just like its 12-valve big brother.

  • How did you get your truck to sound so well. Ive been tooth and nail against puttin a 4bt in my f150 because every other video its KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK and sounds hideous. With a baffler yours wouldn't sound too far off from the larger series inline 6 and v8 diesels

  • you never did say how much torque it's puttin' out?

  • dakota digital makes a little pickup that installs on your tranny inspection plate and counts flywheel teeth to produce a tach signal. pretty nifty :)

  • Nice video. I got my spring and turbo housing from Scott too (for the 4BT in my CJ). Also, that AutoMeter EGT gauge reacts fast, my VDO EGT is slow as dirt compared to it.

  • Which is the pyro; top or bottom?

  • whats that, like 22 psi?

  • I put a 4bt in my 2000 Durango which came with the 360, and trust me, even my stock 4bt with slight fuel adjustment outpulls a stock 360. My top speed is limited only by my gearing and the RPM limit of the engine...I have stock governor spring still installed. I can still cruise at 70, and do nearly 100 max speed.

EPA: Isn't it foolish that the enviro-nuts are so against a diesel, that they would rather have us run the stock 15mpg engine instead of a 28+ mpg diesel?

  • Do you think you can make 400 reliable horses from this motor and if yes what kind of mods you think would be needed

  • ok so i want to do this to my 4x4 1500 what does the total cost of changine the computer gas tank fuel pumps engine mounts and everything it takes todo this let me know please cause i think a 1500 deisel would be bad ass and 4 wheel drive too lol thanks

  • yeah EPA are ass of world that dont give fuck about this engine

  • @pantherxx010 Whatever, cleanest engines in the world are new diesels, with new diesel technology. They are not only more clean and efficient, but there power is higher than ever before. I say screw the old shit and its time to come in with the new.

  • that's so bad ass. How long did it take you to build?

  • You've got to be kidding me.... I got a 3.9 v6 and i was looking to put the 360 in there. I had no idea you could stick the 5.9 CTD in there. Very Nice, Very Very nice

  • This is a 3.9 I4 CTD, not the 5.9

  • 3.9 = 4BT- I4... the 5.9 is a 6BT I6.

  • @codyz71 b= b series t= turbo and also a=aftercooled

  • Did the gas motor mount match up with the diesel or did you make your own

  • They're custom mounts.

  • That is sick. how did you wire it up did you use a wiring harness out of a 6bt or something or did you just rip out all of the gas wires and run your own

  • Used the wiring harness from a 01' 24v CTD. But all you really need to run the 4BT is one wire hooked up to the ignition. Either PCM can run it.

  • cool thanks

  • @bigjohnellinas You can't use a 6bt wiring harness and computer for a 4bt motor dipshit. Thats like trying to put a v12 on your bicycle that shit aint gonna work. Everything has to be installed onto that truck that came with the 4bt motor, even the flywheel and other parts have to match the 4bt and the computer or it will not fire.

HannickRacing - nice truck bud, im thinkin about swapping my 5.9L Magnum on my 1996 for a 24v cummins. When i get the money soon, thats what im gonna do.

  • i would love to do this to my 01 4x4...did you custom make your motor mounts? i am soo tired of the 10 mpg or less outta my 5.9 v8...any information would be great

  • Do you have the 5.9 gas or diesel???

  • He has the factory 5.9L Magnum gasser which most of us have/had.

  • working on a twin turbo 4bta. for my 05 dodge ram1500. should put down 300 plus to the wheels. with lots of tuning.

  • What type of fuel mileage does the 4BT get?

  • Low 20s regular, so far my best is 28mpg highway.

  • So how is the noise level, like compared to 5.9L diesels? I was wondering about that. Is the 3.9L louder than the 5.9L diesel??

  • It's the same in theory, just sounds a little different. However mine is essentially "straight piped" as I use a 4" downpipe to a straight through muffler which doesn't muffle much at all. I hear they can be made quite quiet with a proper muffler.

  • with minimal tuning my 5.9 cummins in my 3/4 ton 2wd gets about 15-17 in town & 24-26 on the highway if I keep my foot out of it lol

  • If only Dodge was smart and threw these motors in there half tons from the start! Well at least you have one cool dodge.

  • I know, the power & mileage on the gas engines blow. If Dodge had done that, the 4BT would have all the advancements the 6BT has, common rail would be sweet!

  • Cummins does make a common rail CTD. They make the engine with all the advancements and more. Go to their website and also check out the 3.3L engine. The only reason we don't use those engines is cost! You're looking at $10,000 easy, mine was $1,400.

  • oh yea the newer 4 cyls. are 4.5 liters common rail and could easily have egr and the dpfs to make them emissions complaint but no manufactuer wants to put the effort forth to make them a viable option as a half ton truck engine

  • In south america lots of half ton ford trucks have 4bt's.Here in Argentina all F series half ton ford trucks have 4bt's.

  • Yea, I've heard that. Unfortunately the US EPA does not allow this engine in light-duty vehicles like the F-250. Our EPA's laws/rules are very anti-diesel unlike Europe & the rest of the world.

  • The mechanical b3.3 is about $3500 the common rail one is about $4500.

  • They do make common rail 4bt's.

  • Exactly why I did it. Only major issue is the weight distribution. Center of gravity is at the door jam and I'm guessing it's close to 90/10. If I have to brake hard, the rears lock up.

  • @Blondets1 Think of how much oil our country could have saved if Dodge had offered this along with the 6b engines in the ¾ trucks.

Made this 4bt available in the ½s

  • @phantomcharger Its because american car companies a linked to the oil companys. If everybody was driving a 35 mpg diesel, the oil companies are loosing money. America stimulates over sea countries by there oil sales. besides that diesel's price would go up significantly.

  • @Blondets1

they are smart because they got in bed with cummins!

  • stick a phat turbo on it

  • what were the #'s laid down on that video?

  • 166HP @ wheel. It's on the video.... No torque numbers because I could not get a tach signal.

  • Comment removed

  • @hannickracing Dyno's measure torque and calculate horsepower. There is no way to calculate horsepower without measuring torque and rpm. Horsepower = (torque x rpm)/5252.

Stating supposed horsepower without the rpm which it occurs at is useless information. Using the formula above, you can see that it takes twice as much torque to make 166 hp @ 2000 rpm as it does to make 166 hp @ 4000 rpm.

    Try again.

  • i like this idea!!!

  • im thinking about puting that motor in my 1977 chevy luv truck

  • nice!

thought id let you know the HY35's are very restrictive and have an efficiency rate that stops at about 27 or so psi, the exhaust housings are very restrictive.

I think you should go with a plain ole HX35 with a 12cm exh. housings for more power and faster spool.

  • Thank you for the advice. I know that the HY35 is more restrictive than a HX35, but fuel economy is my goal. The HY35 spools earlier and tops out earlier which is exactly what I want. I actually don't care about HP. 166HP is far more than I expected or wanted. The HY-35 will help minimize smoke for local driving and just improve overall city driving.

  • Good plan, but perhaps you might want to look at a HE351 or HE341. Those were on the 3rd gen 5.9's 03-04 (341) and 04.5-07's (351). Leave the exhaust housing alone and they'll spool like a HY35 but offer a tad better flow. You'll net a little more power, and better overall efficiency.
