This seems like a modified version of Vinicius de Moraes' "Berimbau", but berimbau is a Brazilian instrument people play in capoeira, and specially in the Northeast of Brazil, where the culture of capoeira and samba is greater.

The whole tone of the song is similar to berimbau's, if you want a short answer.

Marvelous! Love this Baden Powell tune--been listening to Paula Morelenbaum sing it lately, so now this Mercedez, Mary Lee, and Janet version is going right onto the ipod tonight. OK--after listening to Janet on this and other videos, I'm saying that this cajonista has got to also be a trap drummer. The banjo in the back was a good solution and I particularly loved it ... could be a bit heavier given the lyrics and general theme of the song although the contrast goes true to the basic setting of Bossa Nova. Portuguese could use some more training but, hey, most people in Brazil covering english written lyrics could use some work on their english. Partnership between Baden Powell and Vinicius produced some legendary good music so I am just glad to have stumbled into this one here again. :D
