I stand corrected!!! I had the 45-RPM ever since '70 once upon a time, until it was lost. You hafta understand when you grow with this stuff from cradle to mid-age, after a while everyone starts sounding like one's uncles, aunts and grandparents, even when their singing. What was off-putting about my memory was that southern bend to Jackie that sways more to Wilson's verve than his.
Now that my memory is jarred, this was the recording. It seems Jackie knew he was in a world of trouble too!
Hmmm....the only Wilson I know of who recorded "Uptight" for Brunswick was Jackie, who cut that tune with Count Basie's band.
Pickett never recorded for Brunswick, and he was quite the label hopper after his stint with Atlantic. Surprised that he never tried his luck with Brunswick, but by the mid-'70s they were in big trouble with the IRS.
As for Jackie's version of "Uptight", I'm surprised it isn't here. If I had the capability, I'd gladly post it and some other tunes from that session.
I heard this song recently for the first time. Without seeing the writing or producing credits, I could tell it was a Philly production with the MFSB rhythm section. Norman Harris' guitar playing is unmistakeable!
I never heard of this until I bought it in '75on an RCA compilation album various artists. It's great - for me one of his best. I play it VERY LOUD and it makes me very hsppy, even today all these years later.
Isn't it great that a 2 or 3 minute song from 30 odd years ago can inspire such an array of happy feelings and memories from so may people. Brilliant!!!!!
AAAAAAAH..... MY YOUTH!!! BRILLIANT!!!!

How about posting Wilson's "Uptight" (written by Stevie, of course.) This one on the Brunswick label, I believe.
