I cant imagine the magnitude of thrust it must take to pluck that thing off the ground like that.. what might happen if a person ended up beneath it during takeoff?
@acidstriker007 if you think scientifically it must be thrusting at least the weight of the aircraft plus some more for stability so it would probably be like having a bus dropped on you
We didn't see it transition from normal flight into a vertical landing. If you want to see that you need to YouTube the Harrier Jump Jet been doing it since 1969 America still trying to catch up with England ;P
@sang3Eta The F35 is capable, it's just not practical in a wartime scenario. If the F35 had a small quantity of fuel and no payload it can perform VTOL, same with the Harrier, but if it's in the battlefield, filled with fuel and weapons, neither can do it.
@ddioppp he's into classic historic stuff.. that's why.. the limitation of the harrier is it can't go super sonic.. which is why this was made.. plus it has thrust vectoring.. I don't think the harrier has thrust vectoring.. therefore JSF F-35 > harrier
some people misdeem fighters production, but many technologies that are available for us nowadays was result of years of research in avionics.USAF using them for bombing places and killing people is another different story.I support Technology and Science envolved in their production, but I really don't support them as wars artifacts.
@Xiolablu3 I really am going to miss the harrier. It is a brilliant plane. But in the UK we are also losing The HMS Ark Royal. Thats just stupid. I did'nt know he F16 was being replaced to. Why?
@Xiolablu3 Ya, right. The F-16 is not going to be replaced by this plane. This plane is only replacing one plane, the AV8B Harrier. It is very different from the F-16, and they both serve different purposes.
You are correct: this aircraft has not yet achieved conversion to horizontal flight. However, to call it a re-make of a Yak-141 is typical, ignorant, Russian exaggeration.
@Kuculcangod The Gripen uses outdated targeting software, which is sad for its mission of air superiority. The F14 was capable of locking onto to over 10 targets at once 20 years ago, and the gripen is only doing that now? It is a god airplane, however the F22 and F35 are using software 10x as adanced. The f22 has the computing power of SEVERAL cray supercomputers. The gripen does not
@givemethatfilletfish So what? The F/A-18 & the AV-8B II would eat this shit alive in a dogfight, the JAS would have some pancaked JSF for breakfast! I'm not a troll or a fan boy,I found out how shitty this aircraft really is,and what they don't tell you.I'll find the link, and open ya'll's eyes!
@USMCjunior117 Yeah of course, the Air forces of around 10 countries are all replacing their better aircracft with a worse one according to you. GO FIGURE!
This is how I arrive at work.

Harrier is better, and was 40 years ago too.
edj66 6 months ago
@edj66 pretty sure this would pwn a harrier.. the harriers maximum recorded hover is not very long.. it was really tricky to hold.

@edj66 stop pretending like you know anything about this airplane. and what are your arguments?

Killing and war is so profitable for Locheed Martin. Its part of the reason why we have so much war!!!
Imagine if all the money given to this went towards solving problems. alternative energies, food, ect.

@redleocabral
Well, the Yak-141 actually managed to go to free flight after taking off vertically. I still have not seen that from this aircraft.

SAAB Gripen has max speed mach 2.5 THATS FAST!

@Kuculcangod its not meant for air superiority like the Gripen, so good job pointing out a characteristic that it doesn't need to be strong at
