@supercol1 as this show was so energetic the college had booth singers, as is common within the professional theatre industry. This meant that those on stage dancing did not need to sing as much but rather could concentrate on dancing.

Pendleton is not a performing arts college, it offers a wide range of a level and vocational courses. However the performing arts department is one of the biggest and best in the North West :D They do around 7 or 8 season shows every year giving the students many oppertunities to experience what auditioning and rehearsing is like.

Unfortuantly the budget didnt stretch to flesh coloured mics and as this was a theatre performance not a performance meant for dvd the main concern is that the actors are heard and through many performances it has been found that this position of the mics offers the best sound. And as the theatre is so big (220 ppl) its highly important they are heard and obviously no where near as noticeable in the liver performance

Its the mike. Its taped down with flesh coloured tape which is why it just looks like a black blob. This is the position where they would give the best sound.
